Great food, great service and fabulous sidecars!
Anniversary dinner. Service was absolutely incredible. Comfort food. Very staple. Not flashy but good. What makes this restaurant is the table service. Front desk is marginal. Just ignore it. Servers really close the deal.
Wonderful dining experience.....can’t wait to return....
Wonderful culinary experience with a serene ambience. I will definitely be back. Service was top-notch and the special touches were excellent (custom printed menu and dessert touch). Thank you, 1789, for a night to remember! See you soon :)
Excellent in every respect
Excellent service and food. The variety of dishes and use of farm-to-table ingredients made for a memorable meal. The wait-staff were very attentive and helpful.
We enjoy the Club Room as a cheery and quiet place to get together with friends and family.
The food was wonderful and the service attentive.
I have been to 1789 a number of times in the past for special occasions. This time like all others the service and the food was simply amazing. The Attention to detail and the thoughtfulness of the staff was what made it such a special anniversary for my wife and I.
For our 10th we took a cruise on Star Cruises (tall ship with only 200 passengers). This year I wanted to do something special that would make us both excited and give us time to talk about the year we'd shared. 1789 was the perfect restaurant to do this. The wait staff was attentive but not showing up every 10 seconds. They gave us time between courses and nothing felt rushed.
I highly recommend this place as one of those must go to, must return to places in Washington.
The food and service were outstanding. We had a fantastic meal that lasted over two hours and never once felt rushed.
We went for our first wedding anniversary and had a fantastic experience!! The food was exquisite as were the staff and the building itself! They printed special menus for our special occasion and gave them to us wrapped nicely in a ribbon with a personalized card. They definitely go the extra mile to please customers! Oh, and definitely try the sparkling water even if you normally only drink flat water!
Thoroughly excellent meal and service. The quality of all ingredients was exceptional.
We went for drinks and bar bites. Then we had to leave to meet some friends for dinner. I regret leaving. The food we had at 1789 was delicious. I can only imagine the how good the entrees would have been. The restaurant we met our friends at has a Michelin Star and it did not come close to 1789 at all. Go here and enjoy!!
1789 is a great spot in Georgetown. We were greeted and seated promptly at our reservation time. 1789 has the dining area broken up into several small rooms. It makes for an intimate dining experience but also helps keep the noise down.
Our server was outstanding, he was incredibly attentive and provided details about every dish and made some great recommendations.
The food was outstanding, the star to me was the duo of pork. Personally I love pork but the bacon wrapped tenderloin was cooked to perfection and was the most tender piece of pork I have ever had. The pork belly that accompanied the tenderloin was done perfectly and was delicious. Dessert did not disappoint either. The American Opera cake is a great ending to the meal, with a pot of French pressed coffee.
Highly recommend 1789.
Excellent restaurant ... food is fabulous! Upscale and the ambience is great.
Wonderful experience in a classic restaurant
I didn’t think my day could get any more magical but the staff and food at 1789 surpassed my expectations. My wife and I decided to get married while we were visiting DC and 1789 is where we had our wedding night dinner. I can barley put it into words, but our wedding night dinner will be something we won’t ever forget! The food was amazing and the staff went above and beyond to make sure our night was special and they could not have done a better job!
Outstanding service, impeccable food and presentation...wish we lived closer, would surely dine there once a month
Went for a birthday celebration and had an absolutely fantastic meal. The duck and lamb were both amazing, cooked to perfection. Our menu said “Happy 30th Birthday” up top and we were given chocolates and a card to celebrate after our meal, completely unexpected and unplanned. It was a great surprise. The service is fantastic and the experience was perfect, I would definitely recommend it.
The atmosphere, decor, service , and the exceptional food were second to none
The setting is in such a classic neighborhood and 1789 embraces it. This is a unique , wonderful , gracious, but warm landmark . Definitely recommend this as a Georgetown/ Washington DC experience.
1789 provided an enjoyable experience, and the food was delightful. The drinks nicely developed but on the pricy side. Overall worthwhile.
Amazing restaurant with great ambience, excellent service and good food. It was our one year anniversary and the manager and wait staff were extremely attentive and made it an extra special experience.
While longtime residents of the DC area, 1789 was a "go to" place for special occasions. We returned after living away for 5 years. We made reservations indicating that this was an anniversary celebration and we wanted a quiet space. UNFORTUNATELY, we were seated in a new expanded area that has all the earmarks of a sports bar, not the fine dining we were expecting. Ambiance was very loud, service was so so and when I pay more than $200 for a meal, I expect something of higher quality.
Was totally impressed with the quality and fine cuisine— exec chef Tracy o’grady Is a master of flavors and presentations. Wonderful food.
We enjoyed a special family occasion dinner here and the entire dinner experience was superb.
So excited to take my sister and husband for 40th Anniversary. Service was horrible! No drinks served for 50 minutes! No kidding. Food was fabulous but service made me so mad it was hard to enjoy. No apologies at all. Strange. 5 of us lived the food but...it was embarrassing because i made a big deal out of taking them there and we did spend$$☹️
Bad and rude service. The food is not the best quality/price....but the service has been bad,bad,bad....
1789 Mamaher:Better to hire a professional ....than a student(this is what the waitress looked like...)
We loved everything! Food cooked perfectly and nice cozy private room upstairs. A real pleasure! gel
I don't trust someone who wouldn't give this restaurant 5-stars, they're clearly impossible to please. The wait staff is amazing, the food is amazing, the ambiance is amazing....I'd give it more stars if I could. We were there for a double date and a special occasion and it blew all of our minds away. Worth every penny.
Great location and comfortable setup. Perfectly paced meal from cocktails through dessert. Service was excellent and unobtrusive, menu is varied with something for everyone, and the wine list is great!
It has been years since I have been here, and I was anxious to go back. We were unable to attain reservations in the formal section but were seated in the newer bar area. We had a fantastic meal and service was amazing. We will try again as we prefer a more formal atmosphere and would love to sit in that original room. All in all, fabulous evening.
Having celebrated a 50th college reunion in DC, we couldn't have picked a more memorable place for our dinner. It's as good as it was when we splurged back then to have a geart meal!
Loved our waiter and had the pleasure of conversing with people around us. A great way to see and experience the Georgetown neighborhood!
This was a wonderful pick for the first night of our Honeymoon!
Historic feel, with delicious food, and wonderful staff. They really made sure that we would have a lovely evening and their kindness showed in helping us celebrate this special event. The ambiance and food were fancy and elegant, but without being stuffy. Best meal we had all week.
Finally got the chance to visit my brother Patrick McCormick with my girlfriend. I have never been to a restaurant like 1789 in my life. It was second to none. What an amazing experience that I will never forget. I was also able to meet the other members of the kitchen staff. The most polite and respectful people. And the food, I think Im still full!! The tasting menu was fantastic along with the various other dishes we received. Definitely coming back soon
Excellent food, artfully presented. Happy to accommodate a dairy-free request. Friendly and skilled service.
Most enjoyable, excellent tasting menu with nice wine pairing. Good service once we slowed it down. Cracker Jack Dessert a bit over the top for our tastes but I expect many would love it. We'll go again and recommend.
Absolutely tremendous food and experience. Service was conscientious and attentive and we had a lovely evening in an elegant setting.
Excellent experience. Superior service throughout our meal. Very cozy setting, small but quiet dining room. Dishes were on the small side, but very well presented. Nice to see interesting selection of breads presented with the meal. Servers were very responsive to the lactose intolerance of one guest. Highly recommended!
