What Insiders Are Saying
A.O.C. in Beverly Grove is fancy and sexy and serves top-notch French food as well. Your sex life can thank us later.
My dining companion had eaten here a few weeks ago and said it was the best food he's ever had. Unfortunately, we did not repeat that experience. The clams, and spanish fried chicken - both recommended by the server - were excellent. 2 out of 7 dishes though? The farro was bland and underwhelming, and the cauliflower was so salty - we couldn't even eat it past the first two bites. The dates were something I've eaten many times before, and the foccacia was just a spicy pizza. The salted caramel dessert was good - but again, nothing out of the ordinary. In fact the accompanying cookies seemed store bought. The hype did not live up to the price here.
The food was subpar for lunch. My burger was bland and not juicy though I asked for it medium. It seemed over cooked on the outside and medium done on the inside (like I asked). The service wasn't great either - perhaps they were understaffed during lunch time.
I did enjoy the ambiance.
Service here was not up to par. Thankfully, the manager did try to make amends. However, you come to a restaurant of this caliber so you DON'T have to complain about anything.
Disappointing; small portions; poor food quality
I'll keep this brief. We came here for dineLA since they offer dishes on their normal menu. Overall, we loved the ambiance and the value we got. The entrees are on the smaller side, but it encourages ordering different entrees and sharing. We really liked the bread AOC uses in their dishes. The polenta was disappointing... it was very salty and we didn't understand what flavor we should be tasting. The swordfish was amazing however, which made up for the polenta experience.
The Brunch offerings at every other restaurant in LA look and taste the same (e.g. pancakes with some fruit topping, eggs benedict, avocado toast, etc.). AOC, thankfully, has a unique menu that introduces a creative Spanish flair to each dish. Everything we ordered tasted excellent and was brought to our table in a timely manner. Overall great brunch experience!
Great food and service. A little cheek-by-jowl seating, but lovely patio nevertheless. That butterscotch pot-de-creme is worth saving room for.
This is a marvelous restaurant. Great food, lovely setting, and an incredible DineLA menu.
Great food and ambiance, but it took longer than expected to bring out food.
Lovely ranch on Saturday to celebrate birthdays - excellent food, Suzan was a delightful server and a good time was had by all.
Brunch here was great! Super cute venue and the food was really good and We want to come back for dinner now. We ordered the French toast and a basic breakfast plate with eggs, toast and bacon but it was delish.
Second time here and super disappointing. Enjoyed the first time a lot, but maybe it was b/c we ordered the DineLA menu? Food was generally under seasoned and/or not that tasty. Waiters were really weird and kinda rude. What a bummer of an experience
We met friends for dinner and had excellent service and food!
AOC is always an excellent choice. We love lunch there for their focaccia turkey sandwich and farmers plate. Their desserts are creative and delicious. Their waitstaff is always helpful and friendly. And the ambience is cozy and good for quiet conversation.
We had not been to AOC in several years and were quite disappointed with our experience. It started with our server's failure to read the allergy and food preference information supplied to the restaurant. Had he done so he might not have been pushing meat dishes with his "canned" recital of his favorite dishes. We ordered a salad, the farro and rice, and the halibut. Luckily I had asked for the salad dressing on the side as the two cooked dishes were unpleasantly oily. The server was busy with his canned speech at other tables and failed to check on us. A manager finally helped out. The server took a long time to bring the cheque as he was continuing his recital. The salad and the cheese course were the best parts of the meal. The cooked food was unacceptably oily.
The food and wine were great, but the service was inconsistent. We had a relatively large party and
I paid about $110 dollars for a small plate of lamb chop, small plate of hanger steak and dessert! What was strange is the the dessert plate was more expensive than the actual dinner plates ( which did not taste very good), and also they have the customer to pay for their staff health insurance- thats crazy but it is on the bill- i don’t think this restaurant is for me and don’t think i will go back there- this is just my opinion -
Not sure of why the great reviews. The food is good, not great. The wine (for a wine bar) not that interesting (at least by the glass). It has a nice vibe and excellent service. So it's a pretty good meal, but LA has much better. That's why I wouldn't recommend it. If you're in the neighborhood and hungry, ok, but I wouldn't make it a destination.
We brought some out-of-towners here - and they loved it, as we do. Fabulous, inventive recipes, beautiful presentation, and exceptional service. Everyone we have taken to AOC wants to come back ASAP!
Anniversary from Panama
Excellent staff took care of our table
AOC was wonderful. I cannot say anything was disappointing. Our server knew the menu well and advised us to order dishes and share them. He was right!! All of the dishes were balanced in flavor nuances and delicious. We were a party of 4, meeting for the second time to strengthen a business partnership. AOC was the perfect choice. Our server knew when to visit and not interrupt our conversation, suggested great wine parings for our menu choices and was very sensitive to my food allergies. The chef modified the one dish that had an ingredient that would have posed a problem for me. We spent a good two hours over dinner with great wine and conversation as the dishes seemed to arrive just after we finished one plate, perfectly timed. We will be back and highly recommend AOC to anyone who enjoys wonderful, fresh food, prepared perfectly. The wine list is HUGE, so you are sure to find something that is perfect for your palate.
I am a regular here and it never disappoints. The housemate Bloody Mary mix is the Bomb!!
Wonderful food. Loved the selection of small plates. Great wine list. Would like a few more reasonable wine choices. One of my new favorite restaurants.
One of my favorites!!!
The previous year, we had taken some out-of-town family to AOC, and when they told us they were coming into town again, the first thing they asked was "can we go back to AOC?" We, of course, said YES!! AOC has such an excellent wait staff - and the food is superb and imaginative. Some other family members are coming into town this week, and we want to take them there too ASAP!
The cocktail list was disappointing. The menu is obscure and it is hard to tell what many ingredients are or how a dish might look or taste. The crab and avocado appetizer was good, not unusual. The creamy cauliflower appetizer was excellent but best as a side dish with dinner. The cheese popovers were excellent.
The hangar steak was terrific, but too much carrot puree and I was not fond of the spicy garnish. Best to warn of that as not everyone likes hot food. The pasta was a big hit. Great homemade noodles. Desserts also a plus. Lemon tart great, gingerbread as foil, not as much. Chocolate pie too rich. Service really good but the waiter a bit of a bore. Would have liked it if the owners had said hello. Friends know them and recommended it. Never got to Hatfields and now regret it.
Overall, room to improve but definitely a destination for LA foodies.
Service was great. Attentive and warm staff. Our dinner with mom and a friend was perfect.
Great food, perfect service, beautiful room! My husband and I had lunch at A.O.C. after a doctors appointment on the Thursday after Christmas. The waiter and manager were very pleasant considering the holidays sometimes takes it’s toll on a restaurants staff. Everything was outstanding and we could even have a conversation because the music wasn’t too loud! Hard to find lately in many fine restaurants.
The food was great - especially bacon wrapped dates! Our server, however, was incredibly rude. He apparently was unhappy that we ordered appetizers off the happy hour menu, and kept taking it away. Strange. Pricey.
Everything was great but the timing of the serving of the dishes was off a little. But we had a fabulous experience and every bite of food was perfect!
We enjoyed our Christmas Eve celebration. Our waiter was attentive and checked on us but wasn't intrusive. We had the farmers plate, olives, hangar steak, fingerling potatoes, pork belly and the dessert platter. The dessert platter was big! We brought half of it home so looking forward to enjoying the confections. Always enjoy the dining experience at AOC!
Cauliflower dish came out cold, remade and was full of oil but old oil. Seems like they just deep fried the old one. Hanger steak wad over cooked and salty and tough.
Nice ambiance but food was nit up-to par for a the caliber of restaurant. I like her other restaurant and this one is really declined. Lots Of choices and new creative restaurant in same zip code. I would ask Chef Going to check the quality as she is a great chef and the food doesn’t match!
amazing food, friendly service, wonderful atmosphere. truly an LA classic that deserves to be revisited every chance you get
Beautiful restaurant! Sublime food and beverage. Only issue was rather brash waitress. Otherwise, perfection!
Glad they're back! 🔥
Always fantastic. Highly recommend.
Very disappointing considering that it was highly recommended by many food sites such as Eater.
our waiter was sweet but she had 7 other tables to attend so we didn't get to see her much .
the steak came 20 min after everyone was done eating .
sorry, we didn't like it .
