What Insiders Are Saying
The incredible People Watching available at Balthazar makes scrunching into a tiny table and overpaying for brunch totally worth it. Say whatever you want about this place, you can’t take away the fact that the kitchen gets it done.
Very good food, and great service. Ir worths, the prices are ok
Energetic and authentic Brassiere
That duck and creme brûlée tho!
It was a great place to take my twin daughters for lunch on their 16th birthday! A memory they won’t forget.
As wonderful as ever! Fantastic service and food!
Not as good as I remembered. Came here tonight for a special celebration but the salmon was almost raw and the special pork chops were mostly fat. Won't return
One of us ordered the pasta - meal. It was way too small to be a meal. Otherwise it was a Nice visit, apart from the noise.
It's not just the food, it's an experience!
We will definitely return.
Balthazar is a vibrant, beautiful restaurant located in the Soho district, very reminiscent of Parisian Bistros on a much larger scale. I arrived for Sunday Brunch, warmly greeted and seated in the center of the restaurant with a good view. Service was very timely; I was not hurried. Coffee, delicious salade niçoise, pastry basket, oysters, brioche French toast-I did not order all of these, but I was seated between 2 tables populated with those who did. These dishes were delicious by association.
For the Vegan/Vegetarian diner, you need to order carefully, but the wait staff was happy to help.
Our favourite restaurant in New York! The staff , and the food are all outstanding. We fly to New York to celebrated our anniversary at Balthazar. It’s has a fabulous buzz.
Fabulous!!! Service and Food was phenomenal. Just wish it wasn’t so LOUD.
This place just seems to get better over time or else I forgot how much I enjoyed it the last time I was there.
i travel to NYC on a regular basis and have read reviews that this is a place for tourists and locals. Went there for Brunch on a Saturday. It was a crowded room but we were able to have a conversation without any difficulty. The food was just as described, and very good. Our server was spectacular and anticipated our needs. There are so many wonderful restaurants in the area, but I would return here because of the nice experience.
This is a NYC institution. There are fancier and not expensive places in the city, but they don’t quite match up to the experience of this place. The only thing I wish they would do is invest more in gluten free options for us who suffer from that allergy. Some gluten feee bread would be a most welcome sight.
Amazing service and food
Excellent service and food was amazing. Desserts to die for... highly recommend!
We love tha atmosphere casual chic of Balthazar. Tables are too close, noise is absurd, but we like it anyway!
One of the best places in town for oysters and seafood
A great experience as always. The burger and steak frites are the best.
My husband and I ate at this restaurant last year and it was fabulous. Last year I had the Steak au Poivre and it was the best I'd ever eaten. This time I ordered the same Steak au Poivre again, but the meat was very tough and the sauce was very mediocre. I had raved about Balthazar to the friend I brought there, but was very disappointed with my meal.
Wonderful celebration dinner at Baldazar. Highly recommend the Cote de boeuf for 2. That meal will be in our foodie dreams for years to come. Staff was attentive but not overly. Perfect setting to celebrate 50 years with the love of my life.
I ate a stake fries. The meet was amazing, the butter is incredible.
As always, food and service were outstanding, especially our server Booker!
Every time we come to NYC we go to Balthazar for lunch! Great people watching and I love the Chicken Paillard.
AN EXCELLENT RESTAURANT WITH GREAT FOOD, GREAT SERVICE ( MY WAITER DESERVES A SPECIAL MENTION) BUT PERSONALLY BETWEEN 8 AND 9:30 I FOUND IT ALL TOO NOISY. I WAS SEATED AT A BACK BANQUETTE AND EVEN THEN I SIMPLY FOUND IT FAR TO 'ENERGETIC'. IF THAT'S WHAT YOU LIKE, IT'S 100%. IF NOT, GO EARLY.
The biggest disappointment..expected so much more from this place.Food was horrible, this place needs major improvements and renovations.Sooo Overrated.
Vacation. Good food
Fantastic food and atmosphere!
I use oxygen, and we were placed in the back corner of the restaurant by two whispering girls, even though I had made a reservation the previous day, and there were only a dozen or so people present. Gave a very bad impression with girls acting like they were in the high school lunch room doing the seating.
We Love to visit Balthazar when we visit soho... it is special!
Omg the best restaurant I’ve been to for the first time! I definitely recommend and will be coming back again. The food is absolutely amazing 😍
AMAZING!! Great food, great place, excellent service!!
Felt like I was in Paris — awesome food, ambience, and service! Would go back in a heartbeat.
Our favorite restaurant in Soho and one of top 5 in whole Manhattan. Anytime we visit NY, we make sure to dine here. Our guests are always impressed, with service, excellent high quality food and selection of wine. Atmosphere is adult, but fun and elegant. We are already now looking forward our next visit.
From the moment we sat down, we were promptly greeted by our server and drink order along with water preference were immediately taken. Bread was brought out, which was absolutely delicious. Our server was well versed with the menu, and made great recommendations. From the oysters, salad, steak fritte, to the profiteroles for deser...all were a delight. Was a nice experience and glad we chose the restaurant while in soho for the weekend.
Dining at Balthazar is like a mini trip to Paris. The restaurant is beautiful, the ambience is authentic, exciting and lively, and the food is delicious. The classic French dishes are the best, and the desserts are heavenly.
a New York staple, never dissapoints. a good meal does not have to break the bank, all dishes are yummy.
I am a big Balthazar fan from way back. They have everything figured out. It is the food I want to eat, consistently prepared well, and thoughtful attention to details (the butter is room temperature, an extra bottle of water is left at the table). They understand hospitality - from checking in at the host station, to servers, bussers, and a manager who is continuously walking the room. I have been enjoying Balthazar since college (and also loved Schiller's!) . Now I come with my teenage son and husband. One day I hope to bring my grandchildren. Keep it up and please stick around.
Dined there many times before for dinner though hadn't been in years. My date enjoyed her duck, but my steak (which I've had in the past) was fatty and tough and have had much better at lower-priced establishments. The escargot was also a bit more rubbery than usual as well. Even the desert was a bit dry. Honestly felt as if I was just given older food. I understand it was a busy Saturday night but the waiter was also barely attentive (which I figured out at the end of my meal was probably because we were his last tables of the night as a new one was introduced right before I requested our bill). Perhaps it was just an off night, and I'll usually give an establishment an "off" night, but I'm definitely thinking it may be a while at best as the whole experience I would've expected for a third of the price.
