We arrived a little before our reservation and they seated us right away. Waiter came over immediately and gave us some bread and took our drink order. He was great but it took forever to get our drink. Great choices on the menu and food was outstanding! Disagree with portions too small as we felt very adequate. Not tapas at all. We had the beets and monkfish. Perfect! But would agree that it took a very long time for food to come out, about 45 minutes and ordered a second drink and he forgot it. Was going to get desert but we had already been there over 2h and didn’t want to take another 30 min for desert. So overall excellent, food amazing, waiter with great personality and knowledge of menu but service was overall slow. Would go back again for sure.
Our meals were delicious although portions were very small relative to their cost. Unfortunately our waiter was rude at times and we had to wait a very long time for food to arrive.
Food outstanding chef choice menu. Every course outstanding.
Food and drink were excellent. Meal took an hour and a half to come, and it wasn’t a busy night
We had not been to Bergamot for a number of years but I continued to read favorable reviews and occasionally heard from a friends that the food was excellent.
So my wife and I went for our wedding anniversary. It was a Monday night and the restaurant was quiet. The waiter was attentive at first while we ordered drinks and then talked about starters. After the drinks came it was a rather long wait for the appetizers, which were quite good. While waiting for the first course we had ordered our entrees.
3/4’s of an hour after finishing our appetizers our main course came. The wait seemed interminable and somewhat diminished our experience and the pleasure of eating out.
The food was good but nothing to rush back for.
The food is great. The officiousness of the greeter may bother you.
- Servings are extremely small; I understand it is suppose to be an "artisan" restaurant - the food is certainly pretty, but not good if you want an actual meal.
- Came here with my girl friend and got the 5-course. Food came out PAINFULLY slowly. One of the dishes she didn't like at all. When the waiter came up and asked her if we liked it we said she didn't like the dish. I was pretty surprised when he didn't try to remedy the situation by bringing her a different dish, especially considering how much we were paying.
- Extremely kind, patient, and engaging staff. Seriously, the staff here rocks; they are both professional and personable - a combination hard to get right.
- The food is pretty and tasteful
Best restaurant in Boston area. Full stop. This review needs to be 50 characters. I already wrote everything.
I loved both our food and our server. But the restaurant was short staffed, and so we sat for 15 minutes between being welcomed and getting menus, and then 20 before getting drinks and then 10 more for bread and ordering. It is a lovely spot, and I love the way they put together the menu and the portions. But it was tough to swallow the price given that there just weren’t enough people on that night to make it feel like a pleasant experience. Our server was knowledgeable, funny, charming, and thoughtful - when he was able to be there.
We met friends there for dinner, the ambience was lovely with soft lighting, we were able to have a quiet conversation.
The hake was not very good. Bland. Everything else was good
It was, as expected, excellent in every aspect. The tasting menu is the way to go!
My wife had what has to be the most delicious chicken we’ve ever tasted. We also loved the octopus, the scallops, and the sweet potato fondant. The griddled sirloin was good, but not at the same level as the other plates we ordered.
Birthday dinner — just two of us early birds at a great table near the window. Had the beet salad with pistachios and scallops entree. My husband had the chicken entree. We both loved our meals and my husband said it’s the best chicken he ever had (he says this every time he gets chicken here!). Good wine selection and our waiter is very knowledgeable about what wine will go with which entree. Will keep returning here for their delicious food and intimate atmosphere.
Olivia was exceptional!
The waiter was rude and abrupt. He kept ignoring our table.
Lentil potage was excellent well balance. Steak was cook as requested and risotto was seasoned cooked perfectly
Interesting and excellent flavors, using many unusual vegetables.
It was great! Wonderful service. Loved the prosciutto melon cucumber appetizer, salad with nuts goat cheese and flowers, and the rich French rice pudding with tart jam.
We left after 25min. No one ever came and took our drink order or checked in with us. We sat and watched people order and receive service all around us... I don’t even think they noticed us leave. Ended up across the street for tapas - great experience there and super friendly staff
Both the corn chowder and lobster risotto were outstanding.
Bergamot is the first place we think of when it's time to go out for dinner. The food is absolutely fabulous; the staff is lovely. It's not inexpensive, but it's worth every penny. (If corn chowder is on the menu, order it! It's food for the gods. If I didn't love my husband, I might chase the chef.)
The food was quite good, but service was really slow and inconsistent. It took a while for a our server to take our order, and then it took even longer to get our main courses. A table next to us, who came in after us, got their food a while before us. I was happy to take my time and enjoy the company, but this was more than that. Additionally, the waiter did not do a great job of coming back to check on us, explain the delay etc.
A limited menu, but excellently prepared with imagination and verve.
Four of us had the five-course tasting menu with wine pairings. Every courses was well thought out, well executed and very tasty. The five courses as a whole (plus an optional cheese course) made sense together. The wine pairings were interesting and worked well with the food. The portions were such that the meal was entirely satisfactory without being too much. Service was friendly and efficient, the bartender was knowledgeable and skilled. This is a really good restaurant.
I don't know what happened. Bergamot used to be one of our favorite restaurants, but we haven't eaten there in several years. Our recent experience was truly disappointing. The service was simply unacceptable -- we waited endlessly to place our initial order, to flag someone down to request another drink, to have our plates cleared. My meal (several appetizers) was brought in the wrong order. The server came by to clear the neighboring table at the end of the meal with a crumb catcher -- but left our table uncleared, just putting the dessert utensils down literally on top of spilled food. The server (who seemed to be in training) also reacted oddly to various requests, sometimes not seeming to understand what we were asking for, or just staring at us without acknowledging a request until we repeated what we had said. (It wasn't a language barrier, more like a very strange social interaction.)
The food was mediocre at best. The rillettes had no seasoning at all, nor did the flatbreads/croquettes the dish was served with (I wasn't sure what they were even supposed to be). The salad was drowned in dressing (there was literally a pool of it that the salad was sitting on top of, with even more poured liberally over it) -- but it still had almost no flavor. We didn't finish either dish, but the staff who took the nearly full plates away didn't seem interested in our obvious dissatisfaction. The corn soup tasted pretty good -- except for the bizarrely inappropriate items floating in it (blackberries? pickled mushrooms? who would think those items worked together, much less with corn soup?) The butter cake was dry and overwhelmed by the enormous pile of whipped cream on top of it. The meal just didn't make sense.
Like I said: I don't understand what happened. Maybe it was just a bad night as far as the service went, but the food wasn't nearly up to par either. Unlikely we'll be back, given how many other restaurants there are to choose from.
Great food, presented by the chef. We came a distance and wish we lived closer.
A bit more expensive than we're used to: smallish portions, but with an appetizer, main dish, and dessert, quite filling. And very tasty, though one dessert (chiffon cake) was pretty ordinary, another (espresso chocolate pudding-ish) was quite good -- and chocolate, our preferred species of dessert.
Everything about Bergamot was exceptional. The setting with large windows and airy feel. The amazing food and the servers were so helpful and happy! The dessert was to die for: Riz au Lait . Just amazing. Can’t wait to go back.
This is our favorite restaurant. Always a pleasure to dine here.
Excellent choices. Everything--appetizer, entrée, dessert---was exceptionally tasty. The only thing lacking was espresso, but we made due.
Such a great place to dine. We enjoyed the original cocktails, the choice of intriguing appetizers and entrees (including vegetarian options), and great locally sourced bread. The service and atmosphere was superb.
food was super average for the price, the steak was badly cooked and rubbery, and the dessert was astonishingly TERRIBLE, a dry piece of cake i would expect from a deli and a few tasteless pathetic berries on the side. talk about disappointing
Superb food and service. Highly recommended.
We sat down and immediately were delighted by our server's energy and knowledge of the menu as well as the extensive wine list. We ordered the fixed 3 courses for $50, which was an amazing deal for the level of fine dining that we received! Highly recommend going and trying as many different dishes as you can, and definitely don't skip dessert!
The food was delicious but we waited a very long time for it. We also had to ask several times for more water and to get the candle on our table lighted.
They were clearly overwhelmed. Our waitperson was lovely but it looked liked she was working the whole restaurant. The food was not bad, but the soft shell crab was an appetizer portion not a main course. Not sure I will go again. Sad. Nice concept, pleasant people, poorly run kitchen??
Great menu. Great food. Excellent service. A little bit pricey.
We love Bergamot! The food is always wonderful and creatively prepared, and it is a comfortable space. The service is great and welcoming. The servers are helpful with our toddler grandson. Overall a great experience!
Very attractive kitchen staff.
This is the best restaurant in Cambridge. You don't have to make jello out of celery or foam out of a coconut to make a good meal. The food and drink are simple and approachable, yet sophisticated. We have been 30 or more times. This visit, the soft shell crab was delicious and the mushroom toasts an incredible vegetarian option. The Riz au lait was an amazing dessert. The service is excellent. The ambiance is bright and happy. Stop looking. Go here.
