Bistro Don Giovanni -- Napa
We found the Bistro through our hotel's web site a couple of days before our stay and made a reservation. We arrived on time and were seated immediately. Our server got us going right away with some cocktails. My wife had the Pear Drop and I opted for the Sassy 'Rita. My drink was not the best choice but that was on me. Others may really enjoy it. Later in the meal I switched to a regular margarita that much more to my liking. My wife was happy enough with her first Pear Drop to have a second one. We started off with the meatball appetizer that was just delicious. You get four delectable meatballs sitting on a bed of soft polenta that was equally delicious. For our entrees, my wife chose the risotto and I went with the linguine with salmon in a creamy garlic sauce. Both dishes were amazing. For dessert, we shared a wonderful creme brûlée with fresh berries. The service was attentive but not intrusive and the atmosphere was lively and engaging. A great experience from beginning to end.
This restaurant has been doing everything right for over 25 years. Excellent food, service, ambiance, it's one of the best places to dine in Napa Valley.
My daughter and I arrived with a reservation just before the crowds. It is one of our favorite places in Napa as the pasta melts in your mouth. We had a leisurely dinner with great service. Really have never been disappointed. It is not a quiet, romantic place as it is bustling and noisy. We have been for lunch and sat outside and that was a lot more quiet. We are happy either way.
Took my wife here for her birthday. It has always been one of our favorites. Sat in the main dining room and had excellent food and excellent service.
My favorite lunch place! The Lemon Cream Ravioli is to die for!
Amazing!! I asked our waiter for a recommendation and did he ever deliver! It was superb, my husband who is usually a red meat only fan even loved my chicken dish. Perfectly done!
This is the second time we brought my mom here for her birthday, driving in from Davis. The first time was dinner when she turned 90, this time was Sunday afternoon lunch on her 92nd. It was a perfect spot to celebrate! The food was excellent, and the service was outstanding - attentive and helpful without being overbearing. It reminds us of an "old school NY Italian restaurant". We will be back for her 93rd!
We had a good experience in this restaurant. It has a nice atmosphere for a weekend lunch, after visiting the wineries overthere. My dish, pollo with brocoli, was delicious! Great seasoning and very hot, just like I like it. My husband also enjoyed his food, lamb dish, however not as much as I did. The price is fair and the service was good, nothing outstanding.
Excellent as always. Staff always friendly and welcoming.
Food was excellent and very well priced.
Acoustics were a little on the noisy side but since there was a cancellation, the maitre'd ( without being asked by us) moved us from a table to a booth and that made a lot of difference. The other diners were obviously enjoying themselves and there was a nice friendly vibe to the whole evening. Food was terrific.
Wonderful experience, very friendly, excellent food
Bistro Don Giovanni is simply the best restaurant in the Napa Valley. We just love it here. The food is fabulous, particularly any of the pastas. This evening, we had the ravioli al limone and the risotto with the short ribs, both of which were perfect. Great desserts and café amore as well.
I enjoy the food at this restaurant. I’ve been several times. The food & the chicken barley soup was a recent favorite. The ambiance isn’t my favorite because the tables are close together, & since they’re a busy place, it is quite noisy. When the weather is nice, you can sit outside, & I prefer that environment when possible. I will continue to eat here for enjoyable, casual lunches.
BDG is my absolute favorite restaurant in the Napa Valley and I've been going there since it opened many years ago. It's difficult not to go every day, but one does need to hold back. My latest Sunday lunch included a branzino that was cooked perfectly along with lemon-dressed greens and a side of pasta (silk handkerchiefs in basil pesto). All their pasta is made in-house and it is divine. Not to be out done, we shared three desserts (who can decide?) including donuts (fried, sugared dough) with chocolate sauce, hazelnut ice cream with a hard cocoa covering and blood orange sorbet. My mouth waters just writing about it all!
The food was absolutely delicious and our server was extremely polite and funny to interact with. I made a reservation for the earliest time available which was 9:15pm. I was disappointed to find out when we arrived that the kitchen closed at 10:00pm. Although the food was delicious, I felt rushed to order and finish my meal. In addition, the corkage fee for a bottle of wine brought from the outside is astronomical, and not worth it whatsoever. Overall, I would revisit this establishment.
Food was ok nothing special. Nice ambiance and friendly servers.
Always reliable with simple
Elegance. A lot cal
Treasure that shouldnt be missed.
It is a definite place to go eat when in Napa Valley. Great atmosphere and food!!
Our waitress was very friendly and informative. Our table was split on the speck and butternut squash pizza. Some liked it but I thought it needed a little more flavor and there were many burnt black spots on the bottom which ruined the taste. The ravioli was very good especially with our waitress’s suggestion to get the 2 sauces half and half. One thing that could be improved on service was that the bussing staff started to take away plates and the bread without asking and before we were done. When food is still on a plate I think the staff should ask the guest if they are finished and if the plate can be removed.
Many thanks for making a very special occasion even more special. Your food as always was excellent and our server Jaye was outstanding. All the best in the New Year (2019)!!!
Amazing food and service!
Service was very prompt and attentive. Water glasses were never empty. Food was disappointing, particularly the risotto which oddly was made with artichokes (and a lot of them), and lentils. Not a good combo of ingredients. Fries looked good but were lukewarm. Sliced prime rib wasn't cooked well and was fatty. Olive oil on the table for the focaccia bread was very good.
Good place! Good food & service!
Overall it was a great place with a delicious food. We ordered meat ball with polenta as an appetizer, which was very good. We also ordered de risotto and the gnocchi. The risotto was fabulous . I had better gnocchis before the gnocchi could have more potato. For dessert we had the butterscotch pudding - also amazing !!!
Don Giovanni is a special restaurant for the Winter holidays. My favorites are the sole, beet salad and the calamari. I highly recommend the creme brulee if you decide to go.
Outstanding as always!!! Fantastic service, wonderful food, superb atmosphere always brings us back. We are locals and it is our place for celebrations and just a fun dinner.
It was a great dinner for my mom’s 80th birthday! My mom used to come here for dinner 20 + years ago.
Use to frequent DG often and hadn’t for about a year - the food wasn’t near as good as before and the dessert trifle they have resized to 1/2 of what it use to be which somewhat changed the ratio of the ingredients (where’s the cake ?) . The spaghetti with clams wasn’t spicy at all -
Use to look be this dish as well ! The service - our waiter was outstanding!
We are locals in Napa County and need to come here more often. This is a gem.
Food and service were perfect!
Always a pleasant restaurant to take friends or as a couple. Food is good, pleasant atmosphere and waite staff all good. Food is getting pricey and less servings but delicious. Love to eat on the patio in the summer. The menu offers choices for everyone’s taste.
They made New Years eve bery festive. my food was great my hsband was disappointed in his crab/ pasta dish. not very creative.
wr however will go back. my ravioli was excellent.
Not up to par with past dinners here. We hadnt been here for a long time and the food just wasn't what we expected. Menu seemed uninspiring for it being new years Eve. I had the fettuccini with crab and bits of shell and too much heat made it not my favorite. My husband had the steak frites and it was very fatty. It was the only meat choice besides lamb and pork chop for most part that was on menu- which was surprising...won't go back again any time soon.
Truly outstandingly great food with a nod to a simpler life in Tuscany. Food doesn't need to be fussy or ingredient laden to achieve the flavor and purity a few local quality ingredients can, when cooked right, and over or near wood fire.
Five Star. Classic. Perfect for a sunny, vibrant power lunch. Good place to be seen. Good place to hideout.
Overall outstanding in every way. Have had numerous occasions there.
The food was absolutely delicious! From the butternut squash soup to the risotto and on to dessert, every bite was awesome. A great place to people watch.
We were completely made comfortable from the first moment on entering to the last moment on leaving. From the owner to the busboys, all was well. The highest praise must go to our waitress-Jackie. She was the epitome of grace and warmth. She handled all our needs with aplomb, and was, without doubt, the best waitperson I've ever had, Absolutely wonderful. Of course the food was excellent. No surprize there, but that extra bit of service marked it as a special evening . I should also mention are bartender. I made a mistake on my cocktail order, and she fixed it up for me with big smile. Again, I think that attention to the customer makes all the difference.
The place was excellent, the bar was friendly as we had a drink before dinner. We sat outside, service was excellent and the food was amazing as well. The Wine was good and went great with the meal.
