Awesome food. I got the french onion soup and chopped salad. My friend got the honey mustard chicken sandwich. Service was a bit slow but it was a very good experience. I will be back the next time I'm in the area!
Great food and atmosphere! Our server even took the time to tell us about the history of the building. Can’t wait to return!
Everything was excellent and I would recommend going there if you have never tried it before!
Love this place. Good food good service and overall great experience.
Wonderful service, delicious cocktails. The dishes are tried and true classic comfort food. Parking can be difficult durning prime dining hours due to location and size of lot.
Service was awesome from the waiter to the manager. Food not so good. I had meat loaf was not seasoned enough for me sister’s food was full of grease which manager took care of. I will try them again. Dessert was delicious as was the drinks.
Food was excellent. People were distanced and following restrictions.
The service at Black Powder is always impeccable. Just burgers and fries, but very tasty burgers and fries along with good choices for cocktails.
Really enjoyed our time at the Tavern. Will return, looking forward to dining in the patio!
We went on a Sunday at lunchtime. Friendly greeting at the door and the waitstaff was also friendly and efficient.
Sandwiches are a nice size for the price. One in our party had the steak and egg entree. They felt it was a very good choice. Everyone was happy with their selection.
A nice craft beer list is available.
Definitely would return.
Love the history of this place.
Great service and food.
We really enjoyed it here. The food and service were great!
Excellent mussels special. Only complaint was that it was noisy in the dining room.
Black Powder never disappoints. Three of us shared appetizers of loaded chips & calamari, both delicious. Our main courses were equally as good, as was the service. We ate comfortably on the patio, & very much enjoyed our long overdue get together.
Nice place for dinner with family and friends.
Quick service and excellent server. Made great suggestions. Highly recommend the poutine and maple glazed Brussel sprouts as appetizers.
We made a reservation on Open Table and I was very disappointed when we were seated next to the bathroom door at a table for two. Due to Pandemic requirements, the Governor opened restaurants to 75% and also bar seating. Every table was filled to 100%. Our waiter did not come back to refresh drinks and I really felt ignored. I was very uncomfortable with every person in the establishment walking by our table either to use the restroom, wait staff going to and from the kitchen or going to the bar. I have eaten here several times before and never had this experience. I know restaurants are trying to recover from the Pandemic, however I am not sure I will return to Black Powder Tavern after this past experience. I am hoping the manager reads this and realizes that particular table is placed inappropriately and would make anyone uncomfortable.
I normally would have said something while we were at the restaurant, however never had an opportunity. When we came home I gave the experience a great deal of thought and felt constructive criticism would be better than loss of business, so I hope this gets quietly passed along to management. Thank you.
Hi, AdventureFoodie Thank you for joining us again. I appreciate your helpful feedback and sincerely apologize for your experience. Adhering to the various health mandates is very important to us. Friendly staff, food was really good, beer list pretty thorough. Our waiter was incredibly nice, knowledgeable, attentive. All staff wore masks and tables were spaced well.
Visiting from our of town, this was one of the few places we could get a reservation on short notice on a Friday night. Honestly, the food was absolutely exceptional. My son had the steak frites. He's a 16-year old carnivore who has eaten in some pretty nice steak restaurants and he thought this was one of the best steaks he'd every had. I had the chicken burger, which was equally fantastic, which I ordered with a side of sweet potato fries that were cut like steak fries... super thick... but really airy and light and flavorful. Super delicious. We will definitely be going back, and will plan ahead as we want to make sure we don't miss out next time and might not get lucky at the last minute again!
Always greeted with a smile and receive excellent, attentive service.
Wonderful food, ambience, and service in a local gem of a restaurant! My husband and I would definitely go back.
Very good service and great atmosphere. Food was out quick but didn't feel rushed at all. Great place for a casual weekend outing!
Good food, great service!
Salmon is always delicious
Good place to grab a bite any evening or weekend. Waiter was very attentive and appropriately attentive. My son's burger looked great and it was a big WIN that they offer Gluten-free rolls. It's still difficult to find GF options these days so any restaurant that has that is a family fave! Parking lot on-site is a bonus and the menu offered plenty to choose from.
Great place for lunch or dinner. From the second you walk in the door, the staff always makes you feel welcome. Nice selection of beers and the food is always of a high quality.
Disappointed at Lunch. Food not up to Pre-COVID standards.
Long wait for food and not prepared as ordered. Fault lies with kitchen, not the server realized his mistake and he was sorry for that .
When told manager of problem, he was extremely curt and was brisk saying “you want to leave now” and then attempted to pull a plate away. Very insulting for your guest !
Prior to COVID, we had been regulars at this restaurant many years .
I don’t know what is that manager name that was on duty on 3-27-2021 but let me tell you Pal , you are the worst , Unprofessional Very Rude , dirty outfits guy I have ever seen . , I had been in hospitality business at list 14 years or more , Ran fine restaurants and worked 12 years or more !! .. ,
For your information I have been In Black power many many times , Our Visit today definitely wasn’t pleasant so I definitely had to share my lunch break story to co -workers family , friends who a-visit theirs quit regulars , When they knew what happed today ..they the one who ask me to write this review .
i hope this message would read by owner And CEO Of Black Powder . ..I would love to provide you more information if needed . Thank you
Great ambiance near historic Valley Forge Park! Drink specials run seasonally, along with an extensive beer and wine list. We skipped appetizers and settled in on a good burger, fish & chips, and cedar planked salmon. Everyone's dinner was very good and daughter and I took leftovers home. Hubby finished his salmon that had a really good glaze/topping made with fried capers.
This place is a personal fave of mine. Outdoor seating available although the weather looked iffy so we ate inside. Plenty of physical distancing and barriers in between tables.
Wonderful food, service, and safety. Only negative- charged my wife for two diet cokes- chintzy bad move.
Very good food and excellent service.
The food was good. Went for lunch. We had the corned beef and cabbage and it was $25.00 which is outrageous. I did not know the price before hand as we were never offered any special menus items like we saw other customers getting. But we figured it was St Pattys day and they would have if. Never in my wildest dream did I think it would be $25.00. Very disappointing
So much nicer inside than what it looks like it might be from the busy street. Blake, our server, was attentive and cheerful but not overbearing, the food and drink were wonderful especially the prime burger with perfect fries paired with a Yard's Golden Ale. The onion soup was also good, and next time I must order the Harvest Salad. I had a bite of my fiance's and was jealous. My fiance got the pot pie and remarked in amazement how much chicken is in it - he showed me a "small" piece that was a mouthful. The staff even ran outside to bring my hat which I left on the seat! Many thanks, will return with friends.
Our server, Ryan, was excellent. The food was very good.
Great time. We're here twice in a row for hockey tournament
Historical tavern with a great menu. The burger was a bit messy and slid apart easily, but was tasty.
Excellent all around. The food was delicious, perfectly prepared and presented. Our server was polite and professional without being overbearing. He anticipated our needs and exceeded our expectations. The room was beautiful and spotlessly clear. Five stars fro us!
I ordered the fish tacos. Had no idea that blackened meant very seasoned. Couldn’t eat it
The Brussels sprouts appetizer as well as vegetables served with dinner were cooked perfectly. We also were happy with the scallops and the Cajun Mac N Cheese.
Fortunately, we were in the back room at a table with plenty of distance from others. The hostess stated that were at 50% and I am not sure how as every table was full including booths back to back with no separation.
Had a very nice time with good service and food that was delicious.
Service was ok. Bar tender took it upon herself to split our salad when we did not request it— we like to share the same plate. Chopped salad was good though.
We ordered the scallop dinner as an appetizer— at full price. Scallops were done will and the grilled Brussel sprouts and onion medley were a nice accompaniment.
My wife’s NY Strip was a little more on the rare side as opposed to mid-rare that she asked for. Meat was tough— you could tell it had not beef aged. If a restaurant is going to charge $35+ for a steak it should be better quality.
I ordered the pork schnitzel. It was fried a little to long and you could taste the French fries that had been the main use for the fryer. The sides were sauerkraut and mashed potatoes. Now, if you are going to do a schnitzel the chef should pair it with potato dumpling or spatztel.
We had brunch here last year and it was wonderful. I think we will just stick with that.
We won’t be coming back for dinner.
