Drinks were so-so. I had the pear vodka drink and it tasted like bland baby food. Food was fine, but should have better. More of a "food for food's sake before a show" than an enjoyable meal. Tends to happen with restaurants in the theatre district. Ambiance is nice - very contemporary with a great view of the Paramount Theatre. Although it shares a lobby with the Equinox gym.
the view is amazing at night but the food is very so so - the tapas plate came cold and the food was disappointing. it would be a venue for a drink for its view - but not for diner.
Our daughters 25th birthday
Just love the ambiance , service, and overall quality of a dining experience. The menu changes seasonally and it’s always good!
Nice salad, great wine, enjoyed scallops with lobster risotto. Very pleasant ambiance with nice view of Washington street and paramount theater.
I LOVE blu. Gorgeous setting four stories above the Theater District, so one dines bathed in the soft light. Tables spaced graciously apart, so one doesn’t have to hear another’s recitation of Her Awful Day at one’s elbow. Subdued and gentle service (no “I’m Bruce and I’ll be your server tonight”)—-although I have gotten to know the names of the servers because they are so very good, and I keep coming back. Diver scallops with lobster risotto was the perfect combination of cozy and elegant. My guest loved the cod. I have never had a bad meal or a bad experience at blu.
Food and service were very good. But very quiet for a Thursday night.
One of Boston's best kept secrets! Blu is fantastic! An amazing view, fabulous service, excellent food, reasonable prices and QUIET! Did I mention the amazing view? Floor to ceiling windows? No need to even dress up! Love Blu and highly recommend!
Great place to eat before or after a show. All the tables were full but we didn't feel crammed in. Also the noise level was pretty low so we were able to talk and here each other. The tuna tartar was perfection- I would go back again just for that. All portion sizes were great and huge but also not small just right. It was also nice that Blu is on the 4th floor so you get a better view. Our waiter also asked if we were attending a show after so he could make sure we were done our meal on time- very thoughful
The location is good for a pre theater dinner near Boston Opera House. We were lucky enlightened to score a table near the window with a view. Food was edible but underwhelming, not least at those prices. Specific complaints / one guest asked for their fish not to be covered in sauce, it was, in my case pasta itself was the opposite of all dente, it was watery and soggy, the basil pesto was mediocre, barely a hit of basil and the consistency of thin gravy - I even suspected it was made with something else. When food stooges we had to ask for silverware - again at those prices that’s sloppy service. In Fairness our server was pleasant and polite but clearly had his hands full at that time. Probably won’t go back.
Wonderful restaurant pre-theatre dining. Good wine list and good service.
Thank you so much for the great review. It makes us really happy that you enjoyed your dinner within us. Hope to see you back soon!!!
Great staff and great location. Lite bites as well as a full menu. Get on in there after shopping or before the theatre. You wont be disappointed!
Thank you so much for letting us know that you enjoyed dining with us. Hope to see you back soon!!!!
Our 3rd pre-theater dinner at Blu. Food great as usual and the waiter was the best - efficient and detail oriented and friendly.
Thank you so much for taking the time to write this great review. We really appreciate it! Hope to see you back soon!!!
this is my 500th review on open table and this was one of two most enjoyable restaurants I have eaten in. Everything was terrific and we will be back soon!
Wow, that’s amazing!!! That’s the reason we work so hard, to give our guests this kind of experience. Our whole team really appreciates you taking the time to write this great review. Hope to see you back soon!!!!
Cauliflower soup was delicious!
High end service.
Thank you so much for letting us know that you enjoyed dining with us. Hope to see you back soon!!!!
Friday evening, before the theater, we arrived at Blu 20 minutes before our reservation. There was no problem being seated early. Our waiter was extremely efficient with water, drinks, our dinner orders, bread & dessert. The food was outstanding! I had the scallops with lobster risotto & an arugula salad...amazing! The scallops were large & cooked to perfection! My niece had the steak. She said it melted in her mouth & was cooked to order...medium well. Her wife had pasta with bolognese sauce & garlic bread. She also commented on how delicious it was. We also enjoyed our desserts...turtle cheesecake, Italian donuts with ice cream & chocolate mousse cake. Do not hesitate to indulge in a fantastic meal at Blu!!!
Thank you so much for the great review and private note. We are really happy you and your friends enjoyed dining with us. Hope to see you back soon!!!!
Blu is an excellent stop for dinner before a show. The location (next to a fitness center on the 4th floor) is a bit odd, but the restaurant is lovely. The view over Washington Street with the theater lights and energy of the people on the street is what I love. The food and service is also very good. Don't be put off by the "entrance" by elevator: it is worth the experience at the top! It is a very short walk to the Opera House.
Thank you so much for the great review. We really appreciate you taking the time to let us know how much you enjoyed dining with us. Hope to see you back soon!!!!
Great pre theater dinner. Interesting menu. Great city views.
Thank you so much for choosing blu and for writing this great review. Hope to see you back soon!!!
Dinner before a show at the Wilbur. Amazing service. Ambiance is the absolute best. Food was delicious. I would absolutely visit Blu again. I loved it.
Blu couples a fantastic view with seasonal American fare. The restaurant sits 4 stories above the lively theatre district with floor to ceiling (quite literally the ceiling) glass that makes you feel like you're part of the city when you dine. My fiance and I went the seafood route: She with the swordfish, and I with the salmon. The fish was cooked well and tasty but didn't seem to be too special, however, the sides were fantastic. The swordfish came with a lobster mash that was mouth watering and the Salmon with root vegetables in a corn crema. The service was also very good as our server would often come by the table to check up as well as brought out the food in a reasonable amount of time. Overall, I would definitely recommend this spot for a date night or family gathering.
Located in what appears to be a residential building on the same floor as Equinox, this small restaurant has floor-to-ceiling views of the outside to get a glimpse of the theater district and Downtown Crossing. The lighting is dim with a blue glow. Definitely more of a date/adult/business gathering than one with small children. Food was very good and not expensive. Many choices including pasta, chicken, seafood, beef, risotto and salads. I would go again when I am in the area.
I did not really enjoy that dinner . They had the A/C on and it was Cold and the servers reduce it a bit but then later on they put it on. It was a very busy night because everyone would go to watch the same show . The service was very good and fast. My food was ok the cocktails awesome and the dessert as well.
Hostess was M.I.A. upon arrival; required walking into the restaurant to find her. Waiter was good though order was either not punched or the kitchen lost it. Either way, waiter preemptorily apoligized saying “kitchen will have it right up” only to have the meals show fifteen minutes later despite the restaurant being near-empty (a clue right there). Special occasion (birthday) designated on the reservation was not acknowledged at any point in the evening.
The set-up itself is a little weird in that the restaurant shares bathroom space with a walk-up fast food type counter in the lobby area.
Food itself was good but not great. Views of Washington St are fun but this place is not worth the expense of dinner. Skip this place and take in the view from street level.
Very attentive waiters and staff. The food was elegantly prepared and delicious. The waiter was very considerate that we needed to be on time for a show we were seeing. Would go back anytime!
Went for lunch with a few colleagues, strange location on the same floor as the equinox. Burgers were dry and not worth $20, bread was good though. Not sure why all the high reviews- very average place, much like a Joe’s American but with a nicer atmosphere.
I went on a Tuesday. Quiet atmosphere, great food and service
We went for an early dinner before a show. The service was excellent, our waiter was very attentive so we had no problem making our show on time. Our salad and mains were not only delicious but beautifully presented. The ambiance was relaxed, quiet, and the blue lights in the large windows added to the overall feeling of calm. We would recommend Blu to others for sure!
We visit Blu regularly, a couple of times a season. My favorite part about the restaurant is the view. There are giant windows (20 feet???) that form one entire side of the restaurant. Most of the tables are window seats and those that aren't can still see the awesome view. The food is solid too. We've gone there for heavier options like steak, and lighter options like salad and have been pleased each time. They have a solid beer and wine list. I am a beer drinker and my wife prefers wine and we can both find many options to our liking. We enjoy Blu and frequent there more than just about any other restaurant.
Very attentive waiter. Great view of Washington st.
We booked a reservation at Blu because of the proximity to the Boston Opera House where we were seeing a play. It was a fantastic decision. It was a 2 minute walk to the theatre, the view was amazing and the food even better. We started with the calamari appetizer for the table. Well prepared with a delicious aioli. I had the diver scallops with lobster risotto. Simply wonderful. My husband had the swordfish, my sister in law had the short rib and my nephew had the pasta bolognese. The only complaint I heard was from my nephew who didn’t think there was enough on his plate. Got rave reviews from the others on their dishes. Drinks were decent and desserts were good but nothing to write home about. All in all an excellent experience and we would go again especially if attending the theatre.
It was such a great restaurant. We will go back again. Cool views. Funky foods. Great service. Very happy with it overall. Perfect for visiting downtown and the opera house etc
This place was spectacular! The view was one of a kind and the food was exceptional. I can’t wait to go back.
First time back in 5 years, the quality of the drinks and service is great. The premium (looking) menu and corresponding price point gives the impression of a high end restaurant. The execution, unfortunately, just stinks. Bolognese tastes out of a can (not even a jar). Duck breast manages to be at once overcooked on the inside and undercooked on the outside (inedibly rubbery). The accompanying gnocchi are undercooked and disgusting. The salmon, though undercooked at the center, was quite good, if you don't mind it rare/med rare at center (they warn you, so it's no surprise). Appetizers are ok, but nothing special. The service was excellent, but the food does not meet the expectation at this pricepoint.
Our server was wonderful and was very attentive. The food was great and the view was wonderful. My mother and I like to come here prior to the theater.
Fabulous view. Great food. Awesome menu- even my daughter who is vegan had several choices and loved her meal. The staff was attentive and friendly. This is our favorite restaurant for pre Opera House dinner
The room is always pleasant at Blu with a nice view. Location is great for pre-theatre.
Food was all lovely - pasta dishes, lamb, sea scallops. Great serving sizes, delicious. Cocktails were good too! Only disappointment was the appetizer platter with fish bites, lamb lollipps and another item. Not much flavor, quite forgettable. Desserts were yummy, and the waiter was on top of the details - asked me quietly about a birthday at the table, and brought dessert on pretty platter with a candle. Quietly, a nice touch.
The views were nice, the service was great, the food was ok. I ordered the steak which was very tough and not that great. My husband ordered a pasta dish and wasn’t thrilled either. We thought we would give it a try but we won’t go back.
The food was ok. I would not go back. I ordered a roasted cauliflower salad and there was one piece of cauliflower on it.
Blu has a lovely atmosphere with floor to ceiling windows looking out over Washington Street. The service is great and theyhave a very tasty vegan option that is the mai reason I eat there.
The food was good not great. The swordfish was very dry over cooked. The lobster potatoes were interesting little too much. The rest of the food was good. The service was very good. I thought it was overpriced for what we got. I would however give it another shot to see if we caught a bad night!
I should have had the swordfish returned!
