Bouchard Restaurant and Inn
Please notes restaurant week will be 3/5-3/11
At Bouchard Restaurant, a warm relaxed ambiance and gracious welcome signals your arrival. The restaurant serves fine French cuisine in a 1785 Georgian-style house.
BUSINESS CASUAL ATTIRE REQUIRED: No sneakers, jeans, flip-flops, T-shirts, or tank tops.
Due to the style of our restaurant, it would be inappropriate for children under the age of seven (7).
Overcooked, overwrought food.
A French restaurant among all the pub food in Newport. Reasonably priced as French cuisine goes. Dover sole, lobster bisque, and rack of lamb were all exquisite. Servers were very nice but parts were too slow. Impossible to park on Thames Street so they gave us a parking pass for nearby church lot. Will go there again.
Fantastic food, great service, lovely atmosphere. We will definitely be returning to Bouchard!
Top to bottom, it was a wonderful experience. The food was excellent and our waiter was terrific. When I complimented the gentleman who I thought was the bartender for making an excellent manhattan he explained that our waiter made our drinks. Our waiter also recommended an excellent and very reasonably priced bordeaux. After three days of lobster, lunch and dinner, I defaulted to escargots and a rare steak. Delicious, especially the escargots. The waiter also had the patience and grace to admire pictures my wife felt the need to show him.
Food and service was outstanding. Daniel took great care of us.
3rd time at Bouchards and it is one of the top 5 restaurants I have been to in my Culinary career. We will be back again. Had the Veal Chop and it was 5 stars. My date had the Dover Soke and it was fabulous. Service is always impeccable and look forward to coming again
20th wedding anniversary
Everything was great until desert.
Ordered deserts and coffee
Deserts arrived but 20 minutes later no coffees
Waiter stated that they had been working on cappuccino
Machine and couldn’t get it to work. We were never made aware until I asked for the check.
I advised the waiter that better communication was needed. We would have been satisfied with regular coffees.
We left the restaurant very frustrated on an evening that easily should have been perfect.
Absolutely exceptional dining experience. No detail is left undone. A great place to enjoy a special occasion. Enjoy a cocktail from Jed before or after dinner. He is amazing.
We loved Bouchard. We we in Newport for a Mini Honeymoon and wanted a really nice romantic dinner and we got it!
The food is absolutely delicious and presented and served beautifully.
Food was excellent, but service was disappointing. My wife and I arrived just prior to our reservation time, and then had a 10 minute wait. A few minutes after being seated, we were told a better table opened, and offered/asked to move - thought this was strange, but didn’t really matter. The new table was near a window, but the view was mainly just a parking lot. It was also under the air vent, so a bit cold. The waiter mentioned he knew this seat was cold, and tried to adjust the vents, which helped. Service was average, not great, through most of dinner. Both my wife and I had empty drink glasses several times. The food tasted great though - just wish the service was as good.
Memorable. One of my all time favorite dining experiences. Max, our server was fantastic.
This is a wonderful restaurant with a cozy atmosphere, great service and great food. There is a slight dress code, and everyone respects it. Tablecloths on the table and a beautiful view. We split a delightful endive salad. There was fresh bread on the table. We had an aperitif to start (white Lillet) although they also have a cocktail menu. The stuffed lobster was very good and the veal chop (as special) excellent. We got excellent wine by the glass, and the list is long. Dessert was two profiteroles. Yum. Good coffee after. Restaurant provides parking a block away, which is good for this congested area. One of the best meals I've had this year. Will be back.
Birthday Dinner. Staff was great. Food was very good.
Always awesome. Impeccable service from Dan and the rest of his team. The menu has a wide variety of great standards and there are always incredible specials save room for dessert especially a world class soufflé
We love going to Bouchard for our Anniversary. Max is usually our waiter and he's great. Food is outstanding, loved the Dover Sole, so delicious, and the ambiance is warm and special. Thank you for making our anniversary so special!
After reading all the reviews I was very eager to dine at Bouchard and expected to experience fine french food. I was very disappointed in the presentation and the quality of the dishes I selected.
My appetizer was Escargot. The escargot were swimming in a cream sauce that buried the snails. The abundance of sauce was overwhelming. You could barely taste the snail for the sauce. My main dish was Cocquille Saint Jacques, once again the scallops were buried under an over abundance of sauce. The sauce was tasty, there was just much too much of it, which ruined the dish.
In all fairness, perhaps it was my selections. My companion enjoyed the garlic soup and the Veal Oscar.
The shuffles were wonderful.
For the price I think everything should have been special, and it wasn't. My impression was of a restaurant trying to be "Fancy, French", and not succeeding.
Excellent dinner and staff ! Beautiful presentation
Great food and service was impeccable
A beautiful and unforgettable dining experience from start to finish. The absolute best lobster bisque I've eaten anywhere around the world. 5-star guest service and attention to detail. Highly recommend this amazing dining experience in Newport.
Service is excellent. Free convenient parking. Food taste is superb. Portions are a bit small for the price.
50th anniversary dinner. Service was excellent. Food superb and atmosphere perfect.
Fine dining with excellent service doesn’t even begin to do justice to the truly inspired creations by this master chef and the attentive service of the staff. A+!
Great food. Highly recommend to others. The dick was to die for.
The French cuisine was exquisite and unsurpassed. The duck, my favorite, is so delicately prepared and unmatched by other bistros. Jared and the assisting waitstaff were knowledgeable, courteous, and perfect in their presentation and demeanor. The host, George and his staff were welcoming and very accommodating in making our reservations and in their greeting. I return every year for these reasons, and more.
A few days before, I requested Maryland soft-shell crabs Provencal for dinner. They did it for us.
As always, everything was amazing. The hostess, Monica, ia fabulous—as were servers Max and Carmen.
Great food and service, highly recommend. My husband and I will surely be back
Impeccable service, fantastic food, wonderful amvbiance! Will definitely visit again!
From the sweet little outside bar to the cozy but elegant dining room, the experience was wonderful. It is one of the last places one can go to be assured of a fine meal in a classy atmosphere. I love that there is a dress code of "business casual". Too many expensive restaurants allow sloppy and, in my opinion, inappropriate attire. This is a place for grownups. Love it. Go for a special occasion. You won't be disappointed.
We had a terrific meal here to celebrate our anniversary. It is one of the last classic French restaurants where one can get Dover sole and delicious foie gras.
The food preparation and presentation was excellent. I had the veal chop and it was fabulous. Finished the night with homemade ice cream puff. We enjoyed the night so much, returned again before leaving Newport and had another excellent meal.
We came to Bouchard for the first time a few days ago, on our anniversary. The food was all delicious, innovative, and gorgeously presented. We had escargots, salmon, and Dover sole, all wonderful. Escargots are less garlicky than you usually get, which I was glad of. For dessert, the souffle was amazing, and the deconstructed chocolate mousse cake pleased the chocoholic spouse. The beer list is terrible (how about an RI craft beer or two?) so I switched to a Grey Goose martini, which was large and good but I'm no aficionado. The timing of dishes was way too rushed for a relaxing long dinner on a special occasion, no time to just enjoy the drink, one thing immediately after the other, but we did like our captain, Jared. The table itself was small and empty plates and glasses were not well-bused. The bus person seemed nervous so maybe he was in training (typical Newport problem when summer approaches), so we didn't complain, but did have to ask for a couple of things to be removed so we had space on the table. Jared was always available to respond. All in all, we had a great time and would return, but would request a more leisurely pace.
Fabulous food, service and ambiance. Never rushed, always perfectly plated and delicious food, and spot on service.
Food was good as advertised. Souffle was the highlight of the meal. Wait staff was excellent. Wine pour was delightful.
Very good service and outstanding food.
A truly wonderful dinner with outstanding service.
Went here to celebrate our baby moon. Service was very good. Lobster bisque was delicious.
The restaurant was neat, the food and service was amazing. Seems to attract an older crowd but I think everyone should try this place.
Always superlative. The Coffee Crusted Duck is a stand out dish. Service is top notch. Details are attended to.
Delicious food, attentive service, and wonderful ambience. We had a great time and can't wait to go back.
