Buddakan - Philadelphia
Great place to have some quality food and nice conversations. It was quiet enough to have a business conversation and food was good as always!
Husband and I were visiting Philly over our anniversary, and having enjoyed SS restaurants in our hometown of DC, figured we’d give this a shot. Food was delicious and definitely met our expectations (though I wouldn’t say it exceeded expectations). Biggest downside is that this restaurant is posh and busy - we felt incredibly rushed through all our courses and were put off by the managers constantly roaming the floor checking on tables they could count would leave soon. I was also a bit disappointed that after noting in our reservation (and mentioning it when we got there) that nothing was made of our special occasion. Not the end of the world whatsoever, but at a restaurant of this caliber it’s been my experience that they make note of those things. Lastly, be aware if you have food allergies. Menu descriptions were limited, and we were never asked if we had any allergies. Unfortunately all the dishes we ordered came out with bell peppers in them (which husband is allergic to). Kudos to the service team for getting us new pepperless dishes when it was mentioned to them. Overall I’d go back if asked, but wouldn’t go out of my way.
Beautiful and delicious!
Tuna tartare spring rolls are AMAZING! enjoyed everything we ordered from main items to sauces and veggies. Can’t wait to go back
Great food, great staff, great waiter. The ambiance speaks for itself and is top notch. My only issue was one of the waiters or hosts had on boots with hard heals... he walked past us frequently and with authority - unfortunately he was pounding the heals on the wood flooring with every drop of the foot, literal shaking the table. It was really annoying. Other than that the experience was wonderful. Thank you -
Excellent meal, nice variety and presentation. Miso black cod and cauliflower superb. Good selection of cocktails. Very loud, difficult to converse.
Another great meal. Everything was perfect. Can't wait to return.
I have already recommended this beautiful restaurant to at least 20 people!! Amazing date night for my husband and I.
Super good. Order the Cashew Chicken or the Crab Fried rice.
Menu wasn’t as creative or intriguing as it used to be. Very basic Asian inspired menu items. I almost could’ve just ordered takeout and it would have been the same. Also, it was supposed to be family style and when the main entrees came, they were clearly meant for an individual. I’ve been here a few times over the years and I think I’ve had my last visit.
I love this place
Good atmosphere. A little on the dark side but not too dark. Noise level was a little louder than I would like.
As always, Buddakan was AWESOME!!! Had a fabulous dinner Saturday with friends that were in from out of town. They were very impressed with the food & ambiance! The hostess gave us perfect seat with a great view of the Budda. We had the Tuna Pizza, Calamari salad and the Chicken & ginger dumplings to start. They were all delicious!!! Three of us had the Tuna entree...which is seared and absolutely amazing, the other had the Monkfish and loved it.
The service seemed a little stressed that night but we were happy b/c we were not in a rush. We actually enjoyed being able to dine....its become a lost art in Philly.
I would HIGHLY recommend Buddakan to anyone. It has been around forever, but the food is consistently FANTASTIC!
We were seated promptly and the serving staff was wonderful. We did have to wait for 1 appetizer and a side dish was late in coming. Because we had a party of 6, we could only get a 5:30 or 8:30pm reservation even 3 weeks in advance. We were seated upstairs, it was very nice but we did not have a view of the main floor where the ambience is better.
The service was not good. I asked the waitress for recommendations and just told me to read the menu. Then when the waitress was pouring my beer it overflowed and took for ever to clean up.
Food was amazing.
Had drinks at the bar before dinner. Waited almost 10 mins before the bartender took our order— and it was not busy at the bar. Not sure what the delay was.
I was disappointed with this dinner overall. I was entertaining out of town guests and really hyped up the restaurant. We waited over an hour for our entrees to arrive Our waiter was not very attentive or helpful with selections. Two of us had upset stomachs for several hours following our dinner. I won’t be returning any time soon
We enjoyed bento box lunches - delicious food and lots of it. Also bento box dessert to share. The place is attractive, and the server was friendly and helpful. I did not like the music - too much percussion. We were able to get a table in a quieter corner and we had an enjoyable conversation.
Food, drinks and service was amazing. Will definitely go back!
Such delicious food and great service all around ! Dying to go back already!!!
The food excellent no doubt. We were seated at the Community table we find comfortable until we were asked to move down to accommodate another party in the middle of our meal. It was tight and very loud so we left early. I will definitely Grubhub the food but not eat there.
It woudl have been perfect except that one of the many hostesses refused to go to the bar and get change to tip the valet. The bar was tough to get thru to, but she could have just walked up and asked for change of a $20, instead she simply pointed me to the bar, that sucks for a top level restaurant where i had almost a $400 bill for 4 of us!!!!
Left a bad taste on what would have been a great place
Food and service amazing. The steamed bun with pork belly appetizer was delicious
Why did the same server who gives people of color extremely poor service once again bring food to our table? This made my guest afraid to eat, fearing he either spat in or put something else into their food. Even though he apologized for his previous horrible behavior towards people of color and said next time he will do his best, it wasn’t enough because everyone everyday in every position should be doing their best. Next time, this server should do better because his best wasn’t good enough. I’m impressed he apologized yet disappointed it put a bad taste in my guest’s special occasion lunch...
Great service. Ambiance very nice. I am from outside Philadelphia but in NYC for 20 years. Went here when it first opened. Have gone to one in NYC several times. Was back in Phila and felt food is a lot better in NYC and not as good as I remembered. Sauces way overpowering.
Drinks were perfect. Food still good but need to tweak it a bit to be worth the price.
loved the atmosphere and decor. attentive service. food good, but the usual too-large american portions.
Service was great.
Very accommodating for my food allergies and food and service was delicious!
We had our anniversary dinner here this past Saturday. We got there 15 minutes early and we were told we would be seated closer to 715 (our reservation time). That was fine, no big deal. We looked around and there were plenty of empty tables open, but we didn't mind the wait. At 715 we asked if we were any closer to being seated. We were told they were waiting for a table to open up and they motioned over to the bar. If I wanted to be seated at the bar, I just would have walked in and sat at the bar. I asked if we could sit somewhere else, explained it was our anniversary and didn't want bar seating. Another 10 minutes goes by and a hostess comes up to us and seats us in the main dining area...at a small, round, 2 seater table, right in front of the kitchen. We had staff hitting my chair all night long because I was literally seated in the aisle. Not sure if it was retribution because I dared to turn down a table at the bar, but it was a terrible seat as well. Our waiter comes up to our table and promptly spills ice and water across the table and didn't bother to clean it up. The food was the only thing that saved the experience-everything we ordered was delicious. We ordered coffee with our dessert and it came out about 10 minutes after the dessert was placed on the table. The service was just okay. We made these reservations over a month ago, I guess that doesn't make a difference, it's probably who you know that will get you the better table at Buddakan.
Wasabi filet was amazing...everything else was average
Incredible dining and delivery all around. Well done.
Great vegan selection, ask for the vegetarian menu and they can let you know vegan options.
Amazing!! Been going for here since it opened 19 years ago. Unreal food, service, atmosphere. A philly classic backed by Steven Starr.
Great as always. Haven’t been in over 10 years and was just as good as I remember.
Fabulous food and impeccable service to celebrate our anniversary! Small plates are served when prepared and larger plates were served together. Nice flow and evening-
I went for my birthday . My first time going and initial reaction “wow it’s dark as hell in here “‘lol but once seated the waitress was very knowledgable and recommended some really good starters . The dumplings were amazing and The lamb chops were to die for . Absolutely worth the dining experience . Great for small parties
Excelente comida y servicio!! Me encantó!!
We went for my boyfriend birthday dinner & everything was amazing!
Great food, great service, our favorite restaurant in Phila.
Really good food
I always enjoy eating at Buddakan. The food is really good.
