Was psyched to visit Butter because of seeing chef Iron Chef Alex on the Food Network, but was very disappointed by the food. The vaunted "bacon" was dried out. The rolls seemed to have been baked early in the morning versus for the dinner hour - a bit stiff and very average. The fries were over salted and inconsistently seasoned, not fried to perfection either. The chicken and the gravy was very good. All in all an average to less than average experience -- too bad. Recommend that Chef Alex send a friend quietly to check up on the place.
My sister loves Chef Alex, so decided to celebrate her 78th birthday at Butter. Let’s start with the ambiance: could have been lovely, however the gnats were flying all over - especially our food! By the time the small plates arrived, we had killed over 8 annoying gnats. We had to try to keep them off our plates. At one point my sister had to ask for a fresh plate, due to the tiny insects all over. In retrospect, we should have left. However, this is such a rough time for restaurants and staff, and we were hoping it would get better, somehow... It didn’t. The server and manager were nice and tried what they could. The food was alright, not outstanding. The branzino, however, was perfect and certainly presented well. Loved the gnocchi mac & cheese. Vegetable small plates also good. Great chocolate cake, not the raspberry beignets (tasted like they were from Krispy Kreme). Yes, disappointing. I hope Chef Alex and her team take care of these annoying flies and work on providing a more exciting menu. Again, the staff was wonderful and did the best they could.
Great food but limited options. Too much ice in their drinks.
Food was amazing. Most tender pork chop I’ve ever had in my life. My fiancé had the steak and it was also cooked perfectly. Recommend getting the gnocchi Mac and cheese and the beignets too.
The service was wonderful and the food was absolutely delicious! Great atmosphere, very clean, and they are taking all safety precautions for Covid times. Highly recommend the pork chop and beignets. Can’t wait to visit again!
The food was so amazing and the raspberry beignets for dessert were so delicious. The service was great too!
The food and service is amazing. I will be going back soon.
Great food, fantastic drinks and the service was top notch. Would highly recommend for any occasion or just a great meal. Had the Tomahawk steak for two, mouthwatering.
Butter never fails to satisfy. Even in these trying times and with a slightly limited menu, Butter remains our favorite restaurant in NYC.
This was my first time at Butter and I can say I will be back. The atmosphere was everything, beautiful setup. My fiancé and I loved the steak , cooked to perfection! I told my friends about this place. I saw it a few years ago on Gossip Girl and have been dying to try and so elated I did.
Save room for the beignets!! Gnocchi was delicious & the lamb pasta portion was a gigantic shareable portion. The steak was nice flavorful & juicy.
Great "outdoor" dining (it was inside ... there is a 'retractable' roof covering an interior garden, so when it is open, you can see outside; but when we were there, the roof was closed. So it was perfect. 75 degrees and no need for heaters, etc. Tables were spaced apart and masks were required, so all was good re COVID). The service, food, and drinks were great.
The atmosphere was beautiful and the staff was friendly. We enjoyed our meals and drinks. I’d definitely return.
Dinner at Butter was incredible! The food was delicious and the service was great! The butternut squash soup is one of the best things I have ever eaten! The only thing that could be better is price of the cocktails.....they are $17 a pop. I would definitely go back again!
This was great, safe way to get out of the house. We enjoyed our food and the service. Ambiance was decent.
Fabulous meal
Amazing from start to finish. Best cocktails, food and service.
Ambiance was lovely. Service could use a little bit of work.
I would recommend Butter Midtown. I ordered the NY Strip and it was great.
First time at Butter since COVID started. Food lived up to the consistent amazingly high standards. Space was socially distanced and staff did an amazing job. Miss the full menu, but understand the compressed COVID menu. Short ribs and pork chops for dinner with chocolate cake for dessert! Yum!
No complaints. Food was good. Service was excellent. Bill was high but expected. Thought everything we ate was super tasty and well presented. Well done by all.
Beautiful space but way too bright for it to be romantic. Ambiance can be much improved by dimming the lights somewhat.
Few options and no seasonal menu as what was described. Looks like it is targeting a 20 something crowd. Signature drink tasted like a well drink, but the steak was surprisingly good!
Service was pretty good , i ordered the steak and my partner as well, it was rough and not tender , ver salty and tasted too crisp almost burnt and i ordered mine medium, don’t think I’ll be going back any time soon but the waiter was nice and accommodating
The food was delicious. The restaurant is beautiful. Highly recommend.
Butter is amazing!!! From the delicious entrees, to the high level of service, our expectations were exceeded.
We reserved a table for my wife's birthday dinner on 12/1/2020. The host was extremely pleasant and welcoming. Our server, Visar, was accommodating to our requests (I have a food allergy and my wife can be slightly picky), and by far one of the best servers that I have ever had of ANY restaurant that I have visited.
Chef Alex, I hope that you are proud of your staff because they are of the best in the business!!!
Super safe and delicious! I took my girlfriend out for her birthday and we had a fantastic evening. First off, this was during Covid-19, and we reserved an outdoor table. The outdoor dining is beautiful, there is a retractable roof for when it rains and there are literally 5 or 6 ventilation units for a pretty small space. I cant think of a safer place to dine. The tables all had way more than 6ft between them. We were so excited to hear that Butter was open and we could finally try it, but were somewhat sad when we were the only ones there. I hope that people will see this review and be reassured, it would be such a shame for a place like this to not survive Covid19. The food really doesn't need a review, it has a reputation for being great, and there was no part of the meal that didn't exceed our expectations, ridiculously delicious. Please, if you read this, go to Butter and keep it alive so that me and my girlfriend can come back soon.
I have wanted to have dinner at Butter for many years and finally we made it on the night before Thanksgiving; it did not disappoint! The waitstaff were very attentive and recommended a very good Italian wine to pair with our meals. We ordered the beignets and chocolate cake and the server was right, the beignets will now haunt our dreams. So delicious!
I’ve been to Butter a midtown many times over the years. First time since covid. Pork chop is always fantastic. So glad I went with that over their $50 strip steak that others at my table ordered. I have a level of expectation when ordering steak at a nice restaurant that this completely missed. The most recent steak picture on their IG is far from the one you’ll be receiving. Limited cocktail menu and the starters were just meh. I’d like to give Butter the benefit of the doubt that this is just part of impact covid has had on NY restaurants. Unfortunately for a $500+ bill it missed the mark.
You can’t go work with ANYTHING!
Veal bacon was delicious ...
Great salmon and Ny strip was amazing
We had a lovely eventing at Butter. Made our trip to NY Very special! Food was delicious
Was one of the better dinners we have had. The rolls with chive butter were melt in your mouth. Hands down the best grilled octopus we have ever eaten. We ordered the steak for two and it delicious and large! Husband had desert which were three doughnuts stuffed with fruit filling and a vanilla dipping sauce. He said it was amazing. We walked out of dinner with smiles on. Not cheap but worth every dollar.
I really enjoy this place. The pork chop, a specialty, was extra good this time! A great spot just a block from Times Square.
Wonderful food. But an extremely limited menu.
We enjoyed the Prix Fix lunch. The food was fabulous, especially the butternut squash soup.
Butter was a pre-determined destination on our trip to New York City this past weekend and it exceeded our high expectations. Our server was incredible to interact with and we felt as though she really cared to navigate us around the menu and gave us all the time we needed as a group of five ladies. Dish highlights included: White cloud cauliflower, mac n' cheese gnocchi and tobacco smoked pork chops! If you are an oyster fan, I highly recommend them; the accompanying sauces were all exquisitely paired.
Good place. Buffet is good and tasty b needs some diversity. Third time there and it’s been exactly the same. Also could use some dessert dishes included in buffet. Overall a good pick.
We were super excited for the brunch buffet at butter, but were pretty disappointed. Some of the options (steak and gnocchi mac and cheese) were great, but overall we were unimpressed. Really cool spot, but just not feeling it.
Food was fantastic. Gnocchi Mac and Cheese, Brussels Sprouts salad and sirloin with truffle butter were to die for. Had one issue with one of our mains (sent out wrong dish) but it was fixed quickly with a flute of champagne and the dish taken off the bill. Our server was fun and casual but smart and professional. Cocktails were tasty and atmosphere was comfortable. Thanks Chef Alex!
Great staff, very knowledgeable. Beignets and nightly specials are a must
