Good vibe but nothing special. The restaurant was small but pretty.
The staff was warm and welcoming. Each dish was beautifully presented and delicious. As we were in the garden, it was a little chilly. We enjoyed our visit and look forward to returning again the future.
Being from Ohio, and a foodie, I was SO excited that Butter was still open during the pandemic. Being owned by the one and only ICAG, I hoped for an amazing meal and overall experience, and I was 100% satisfied!
I highly recommend booking a table at Butter!
I came to Butter to celebrate a birthday and I would absolutely NOT recommend. The service was terrible even though I told them before hand that I was coming to celebrate a birthday. The main dining room area was closed, which I was not informed about and so instead, they put us in the upstairs bar area. Nothing like what I was expecting. There was one run down bathroom with no toilet paper and did not seem like it was cleaned for weeks. Butter should have let customers know before hand that the main dining room was closed as I would have chosen a different restaurant to celebrate. Really would not recommend to anyone and am very angry about the service and food.
The food was AMAZING. The service was AMAZING. When you go be sure to share (or not) the Parkerhouse Rolls and the Beignets. It was the perfect beginning and perfect ending to out perfect entrees. We all had something different and everyone loved their meal. We sat in the garden and had a perfect evening.
Well prepared but not exceptional dining experience. Items pictured on internet not available on menu. Fresh baked cookies although served warm were not particularly fresh.
I chose Butter b/c of Chef Alex G. Had a high expectation that was fully met. We began with Parker House rolls. Delicate crust. Similar to what your grandmother would have made. Complimented with a choice of three flavored butters. Entree was the steak. Perfect. Sauced with an assortment of mushrooms and wine reduction. Finished with warm cookies for dessert. This was an assortment of cookies; varying tastes and textures. The service was impeccable. They didn't rush us through. In other words, had time to enjoy cocktails and breath for a moment before the entree arrived. Timing is everything.
Beautiful outdoor seating in a courtyard with white lights!
My family and I are big fans of Alex and had high hopes for Butter. All in all, it was a good but not great experience. They have done an amazing job of accommodating Covid restrictions with the converted space they are using, definitely respect that!! But, the service was slow and lackluster, not a lot of energy from the staff. Alex seems to be such a warm, welcoming person, we expected that vibe to be part of the restaurant. The food was good, but our broccoli and french fry sides were lukewarm, not hot. We had an 8:30 seating on Saturday night. At 9:45, we were told the kitchen was closing soon so if we wanted anything else, we’d better hurry and order. Overall, not the experience we anticipated.
Was underwhelmed with this restaurant. The Branzino was not special, chicken not exceptional, just eh......
The food was AMAZING. But the service was so so. The food was brought out pretty slow. I understand with COVID there is less people, etc, but there were hardly anyone else at the restaurant while we were there (between 2-4 other tables at one point), yet we waited a long time to get each thing we ordered. The staff was also surprisingly not as friendly as you’d expect with a place with those kind of prices. But once again the food was incredible! Definitely must try the butternut squash soup which comes with popcorn, and the chocolate cake is divine.
To say that Butter made our night would be an understatement. From the moment we walked in, the staff made us feel absolutely comfortable and really provoked a feeling of belonging there. From some casual small talk to being sat, we already knew that this restaurant was an experience worth remembering.
And this is before even getting the food! We started with the bread, and this bread honest-to-god ruined my life. I will never have bread this good again in my life. I cannot recommend the bread enough, it has no right to be so good!
Our entrees were equally as good, and my vegetarian partner greatly enjoys the cauliflower dish, which is always a treat to have healthy options that taste good.
Overall, I couldn’t recommend this restaurant enough. 5 stars feels shallow compared to the perfect night we experienced
The Branzino was to die for! Great service by Freddy! Amazing experience overall! Next time in NYC will definitely return!
Great to have a good restaurant back in action after this trying year. Food was PHENOMENAL. Service is getting back on track but I’m sure after a few more weeks things will be back to normal- they were pleasant but just a tad slow at times. That’s my only criticism and it’s fixable. Overall an amazing time and would definitely go back!
Food was amazing (rolls, gnocchi Mac, pork chop, NY strip, broccoli and fries), honestly better than I expected. Dessert was a little too sweet for my taste (caramel chocolate cake) but everything else was spot on. We waited a little longer for some courses than I would have liked but service staff was very friendly and offered great suggestions. We will definitely be back. The garden seating was perfect for a warm March evening.
Food was terrific. Service started out strong but fell off. Would still eat here again.
The staff was very friendly and attentive during our meal. Our water glasses were never empty. The Parkerhouse rolls and the gnocchi Mac and cheese were heavenly. The braised boneless short rib was so tender and flavorful. The mixed drinks were not watered down and had excellent flavor to them. We sat in the outside garden area. The table was dusty when we sat down due to it being a windy day. The staff was quick to clean and change the table settings. Would definitely recommend. The prices were great for the quality of food.
Wonderful meal as always. Great service.
Was visiting NYC for a long weekend and chose Butter Midtown after reading comments on Instagram from other diners. The part of the restaurant that is open, has a wonderful vibe. Tables were appropriately distanced, ventilation and air circulation could be felt without being too chilly and music/lighting were very upbeat. The service was exceptional as I would expect from a restaurant associated with Chef Alex Guarnaschelli. The cavatappi pasta was a delicious starter. My halibut was cooked 1-2 minutes beyond my preference, but still delicious, and the short rib melted in our mouths. We finished with the highly recommended beignets and were totally satisfied. So glad to see the City beginning to awaken.
Small, uninspired menu and the service was not up to par with the price.
Dined in the garden at Butter Midtown this past weekend. Everything was spot on delicious. The rolls are to die for. Cavatappi and veal bacon were yummy, too. Three in our party split the duck special, pork chop and braised short rib and everything was superb. I usually don't order pork chops because they become overcooked very easily but this porkchop was juicy and flavorful. The raspberry beignets with banana sauce was the perfect end to the meal. Great dining experience.
We were disappointed in Butter. The food was just okay. The service was fine, but for the money, we were expecting much more.
Food and drinks were excellent. I had the chicken dish and was the best chicken I even had. My husband devoured his pork chop. Dinged a star because there was only 1 unisex bathroom and it was not clean. Also a had a wobbly table the waiter had to fix 2x.
Great special occasion, business, and overall great food restaurant! The pork chops and short ribs were spectacular. We ordered every side. We are recommending to anyone who will listen.
Food was all excellent, waiter went above and beyond answering our questions and making wine recommendations, and generally made the whole night a great experience. The veal bacon and the duck were especially good.
Although I enjoyed the food and ambiance I was not impressed with my meal. I order the the lamb chops with were actually two tiny lollipops legs. I should have taken head when the waiter said it was only one order left so basically I was given scrape for $45 the cooks should have known better to send such meal out I’ve dined in many restaurants and had lamb chops as a entree but this was clearly a appetizer size. I left not entirely satisfied but once again the drinks and ambiance was nice.
It took one hour to get rolls for our table and when we asked for them they magically appeared and then it took nearly 2 hours to get our food and we asked for the food that also magically appeared. The tables around us had their food and some of them had come after we had already arrived. Our server was rude and not interested in having a good engagement. He brought out fries as a way for the chef to apologize for being out so late.
Secondly, the food. On the menu it said that they had a rack of lamb for the special which we ordered and split. The menu was deceiving because what we received were lamb lollipops and there were only two. Also, The server knew we were splitting and could’ve said something about the fact that it would not be enough food. Lastly, as I mentioned before the menu said it was a rack of lamb and this was not that and the price for these two lamb lollipops was $45 and it was only accompanied by a small bed of arugula and about six pieces of zucchini.
The food was delicious however the value for the money was very very bad. The rolls were OK however quite salty. The drinks were good except for the Moscow Mule, which had zero ginger beer. The value was overpriced even for New York City and we will never go back there again and do not recommend anyone else to go there
Was psyched to visit Butter because of seeing chef Iron Chef Alex on the Food Network, but was very disappointed by the food. The vaunted "bacon" was dried out. The rolls seemed to have been baked early in the morning versus for the dinner hour - a bit stiff and very average. The fries were over salted and inconsistently seasoned, not fried to perfection either. The chicken and the gravy was very good. All in all an average to less than average experience -- too bad. Recommend that Chef Alex send a friend quietly to check up on the place.
My sister loves Chef Alex, so decided to celebrate her 78th birthday at Butter. Let’s start with the ambiance: could have been lovely, however the gnats were flying all over - especially our food! By the time the small plates arrived, we had killed over 8 annoying gnats. We had to try to keep them off our plates. At one point my sister had to ask for a fresh plate, due to the tiny insects all over. In retrospect, we should have left. However, this is such a rough time for restaurants and staff, and we were hoping it would get better, somehow... It didn’t. The server and manager were nice and tried what they could. The food was alright, not outstanding. The branzino, however, was perfect and certainly presented well. Loved the gnocchi mac & cheese. Vegetable small plates also good. Great chocolate cake, not the raspberry beignets (tasted like they were from Krispy Kreme). Yes, disappointing. I hope Chef Alex and her team take care of these annoying flies and work on providing a more exciting menu. Again, the staff was wonderful and did the best they could.
Great food but limited options. Too much ice in their drinks.
Food was amazing. Most tender pork chop I’ve ever had in my life. My fiancé had the steak and it was also cooked perfectly. Recommend getting the gnocchi Mac and cheese and the beignets too.
The service was wonderful and the food was absolutely delicious! Great atmosphere, very clean, and they are taking all safety precautions for Covid times. Highly recommend the pork chop and beignets. Can’t wait to visit again!
The food was so amazing and the raspberry beignets for dessert were so delicious. The service was great too!
The food and service is amazing. I will be going back soon.
Great food, fantastic drinks and the service was top notch. Would highly recommend for any occasion or just a great meal. Had the Tomahawk steak for two, mouthwatering.
Butter never fails to satisfy. Even in these trying times and with a slightly limited menu, Butter remains our favorite restaurant in NYC.
This was my first time at Butter and I can say I will be back. The atmosphere was everything, beautiful setup. My fiancé and I loved the steak , cooked to perfection! I told my friends about this place. I saw it a few years ago on Gossip Girl and have been dying to try and so elated I did.
Save room for the beignets!! Gnocchi was delicious & the lamb pasta portion was a gigantic shareable portion. The steak was nice flavorful & juicy.
Great "outdoor" dining (it was inside ... there is a 'retractable' roof covering an interior garden, so when it is open, you can see outside; but when we were there, the roof was closed. So it was perfect. 75 degrees and no need for heaters, etc. Tables were spaced apart and masks were required, so all was good re COVID). The service, food, and drinks were great.
The atmosphere was beautiful and the staff was friendly. We enjoyed our meals and drinks. I’d definitely return.
