Came with my family on Easter Sunday for Brunch. We’ve been several times, love this place. Food is always fantastic, service let us down quite a bit this time unfortunately. Our server didn’t seem to like, nor care for us very much. Admonished us for not ordering drinks from him, when we ordered from a separate server who dropped our food off, then got the order wrong. Did the same with dessert. Not going to keep us from coming back, but management should keep an eye on him.
Excellent dinner as always and a very safe environment.
We had a quiet area for 4 of us to catch up .... excellent food and excellent service.... everything great in Newark DE tonight!
Appetizers: We ordered the Kenneth Square pizza with Famous local Kenneth Square Mushrooms and the Octopus appetizer. Both, sooo good! Take your time chilling, talking and relaxing until next entree. Don’t be afraid to order the the Octopus! It is soooo good and it comes with some sides around it. Just break from your regular routine and try it. You will not be disappointed. It is really good!
Dinner: We had the scallops and the famous Veal chop wrapped in prosciutto. Again, the Veal chop is a favorite of mine and Caffe Gelato does it perfect. Another great dinner ! Thank you!
The spinach gnocchi was very good. Unfortunately the gift card process has some kinks. They said my $50 gift card had 0 on it, and they tried to run it twice. But when I produced the receipt, they ran it again and it worked fine. Weird.
Every employee looks either fearful or snooty
Went for brunch during Covid restrictions and had a really pleasant experience at Caffe Gelato. There were nice-looking dividers between tables so we felt really comfortable taking off our masks for our meal. The server was attentive and the food was hot, fresh, and delicious. And the Bloody Mary was tasty! I would come back here again for brunch.
I'm really disappointed to be writing this but Caffe Gelato was one of the worst brunches I have been to despite the food being delicious. We were supposed to sit outside but we were 2 minutes late to our reservation and our table was given up to someone else despite the fact that they didn't have a reservation and we were standing right behind them. We were told another table was leaving shortly and we could sit inside with the time being but the hostess never came back to us and we sat inside the whole time. Our waiter came to our table a total of 3 times and the 3rd time was when I had to go to the hostess stand to get our check because we were sitting with empty plates for over 10 minutes. Our food also came out a different times which I can understand had they been busy but there was no apology when it was finally placed down. I'm a Junior at UD and a waitress and was once a hostess myself so I try to give the benefit of the doubt but I lost my patience with this service. The table across from us seemed to have good service so maybe it was just our waiter but still, I am severely disappointed. The food was good but the service was terrible, I'm sad to be writing this but Caffee Gelato really disappointed.
Matt was so attentive !!!
Great place for a special dinner. A little pricey, but the food is amazing and worth it! Plenty of space between indoor and outdoor. Service was professional and friendly. I regret not trying the Gelato, but will have to save room next time!
Even though reservations were made on open table for outdoor dining, the host kept asking if we could sit indoors. Not the kind of service you want in the middle of a pandemic. Finally, he sat us outside, but I’m not sure why it was such an issue. Overall, I feel like food quality has gone down over the years. Service once we were seated was wonderful.
Love this place. Some day I'll have a date to sit in those cute little garden things.!!!
Very nice place and delicious food!! Also great service by Ricardo
Disappointing from the start. Had a reservation that I confirmed by phone twice for one of two outdoor "greenhouses". When we arrived, they had just seated a party without a reservation at one of them, and we were forced to eat inside. The availability of the greenhouses was the main reason we chose this restaurant.
Once seated, service was excellent. Food was good but not great, and some of the items were a bit pricey.
I made 2 reservations for 3pm on Saturday and they were not able to seat either one. They said we could wait 30 minutes, but they would not give us extra time to do bottomless mimosas even though they were they ones who had overbooked. Overall we ended up leaving as we were not going to wait 30 minutes when we had made reservations.
Some of the best food on Main St!
Cafe Gelato is a regular stop for us in Newark. My wife had the crispy duck breast and I had the rib eye. Both were prepared, seasoned and presented very nicely. We, as always, appreciated being able to select a wine from the outstanding list they maintain. Of special note was our server, Eva (Ava?), who was very friendly and attentive. Her genuine engagement made the meal an especially enjoyable experience.
Brendyn (Brenden?) was an excellent , attentive server. They have beautifully crafted covid dividers between tables. My salmon was perfectly cooked and they happily made a modification to one of the sides. My son always loves his Caesar salad, gelato, and whatever savory food he orders at this place. he had a pizza made to order- delicious.
We actually had 2 tables with 4 of us total and our business associate/ friend was very pleased with his food.
Covid19 precautions clearly in place--separation of tables and seating areas. I will return!
I have NEVER had a bad meal at Café Gelato. Just try it,...It will soon become your favorite go to restaurant!
Bottomless mimosas, attentive waiter and eggs benedict arogosta, super cute vibe inside... nuff said.
What a wonderful place for an intimate celebration. Will return again and again, if for o other reason but the salmon piccata!!
Waited 15 min after our reservation to be seated. The table was ready the whole time we waited. Dirty glasses, waiter was inexperienced and I could go on, but you get the point.
The food was delicious. We sat outside and it was cold. An outside heater would have been nice. Still one of my favorite restaurants!
The service, atmosphere, food, and drinks were all top-notch without being overly pricey. Don’t forget to save room for gelato!
Really wonderful dinner. We took advantage of Newark Restaurant Week and had the 3-course. All the food was really really delicious. Our server, Ava, was friendly and sweet. It’s obvious that management is putting a lot of effort into safe dining. We felt very comfortable. There were ample dividers up between seating areas and at the bar as well. The homemade gelato we had for dessert was delicious, as well!
Wonderful meal. Outstanding server.
Quiet private table.
The food was fine but a bit overpriced for the value. The ambience is very nice. The service was pretty poor - dishes were not removed from the table including when we got the check and after. The afterdinner coffees were lukewarm and the decaf order was given half a cup. This is a departure from past dining experiences we have had in this restaurant when the service was exceptional. A more serious problem: the person who treated our group of 3 checked her credit card statement two days later and found that $50 had been added to the amount of the meal. We had paid the tip in cash and it was noted so on the signed credit card payment. When she called the restaurant to inquire, she was told that the amount had been added to the credit bill "for the tip". Not only is this highly inappropriate and potentially fraudulent, but $50 represented a "tip" of over 30% (the cash tip was 25%, and that was very generous due to the less than stellar service). So, this is something the restaurant needs to look into and acertain it does not happen again to any other customers.
heater not workin outside. Took a VERY long time to get food. BUT what we did get was delicious.
