Caffe Valentino - Philadelphia
Chi mangia bene, vive bene!
Who eats well, lives well!
A group of us (10) were here for a birthday celebration. It took 30 minutes for a waiter to bring us menus and bread. The overall service was slow/poor. Two members of the group had a slight diet restriction. One cannot have black pepper. Despite making an explicit request, the Caesar salad arrived with pepper. Another member is allergic to broccoli. We were told that the vegetable of the evening was zucchini - so obviously there was no issue. But, when the main course was served, all of our plates arrived with broccoli. Overall the food was not well presented and was rather bland. Our experience was not very good - which is unfortunate since it is a neighborhood restaurant and I like supporting local businesses. We will probably not return.
Great food, great staff, great service! Caffe Val recently underwent some minor changes to their decorations and setup, which took a bit away from the rustic and romantic ambience, but overall still a great visit!
Great Service great food . Sam the waiter is excellent. The dinner and appetizer specials are always great!
We were seeing a movie in the South Philadelphia neighborhood and wanted a light wonderful meal and we remembered that Caffe Valentino and it’s chef/proprietor Cosimo and his wife, Heather are wonderful hosts.
Dinner was top notch... but even better was their warm welcome and graciousness.
We can’t wait to go back.
Bring your wine!
Or cross the street to their beer garden, and buy a couple of bottles.
OK place, some of the food is fine! Get one of the nightly specials.
The food is always delicious and the service from Sam and the rest of the staff is top notch.
Loved loved LOVED this place. Authentic Italian the way it should be. Food was outstanding. Only thing better is the staff and owner....make you feel like family. This is my new "go to" spot. Absolutely love their food...from appetizer to dessert. If I could give SIX stars I would!
Great local find. Just moved around the block and had a terrific time - great food, service and a fun spot.
Sam and the crew are always warm and welcoming. Food is always delicious. Can’t beat the value, it’s a BYOB.
Exceptional food and service in a friendly warm atmosphere, with Italian music playing in the background!
Great food , service and atmosphere. Would highly recommend to family and friends. Definitely would go back.
.Excellent service, warm environment and outstanding food! We can’t wait to go back!
Great hostess and owner/chef ! Easy parking on the street, good background music.
One of the best restaurants in Philly. We hadn't eaten there in years (I generally hate going into the city) and it was ever bit as good as the last time we were there. The food is great, and they treat you like they appreciate your business.
Amazing service! Great food! A must visit!
The food, service and place was amazing. Idk why it wasn’t more crowded other than it was the night before Valentine’s Day. Definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a great Italian meal at a reasonable price
Food was good, Sam is a great server and host, his knowledge of the menu is excellent.
The chicken was very disappointing. It had no flavor at all and was mostly breading. I actually thought I had been frozen. Pasta and salad were great as usual. I’ll still go back but not ordering chicken parm again.
Fantastic food and dining experience! Will definitely return.
This is a neighborhood place for us- we love the staff the food the byo the available parking. Great atmosphere, food is very good all the time if you run outta wine they try and fine some. A very welcoming place. LOVE IT HERE!!!!’
Love eating here. The owner/chef, his family and staff are attentive, personable and truly care about your dining experience. The food is always amazing and presented well. If something isn’t to your liking, simply say something and they will make it just the way you want it. And how can you complain about a BYOB that serves fresh delicious food.
I do have to say that the waiter was wonderful but the way they handle our situation was not professional. The menu was set and my 94 year old mother was not going to eat everything. I gave her my soup because i was not going to eat it so they decided to charge her and me for it. I feel like they should have explain how her meal work.
Homemade pasta along with a very attentive and welcoming staff makes for a pleasant and enjoyable dining experience. The food was delicious and the waiters and waitresses came over and talked to us. Will definitely be going back.
Our experience was very enjoyable. The restaurant had a very comfortable atmosphere. The menu had a lot of dishes to chose from and there were a lot of good specials. We would like to go back to try some of the other dishes and we would recommend Caffe Valentino to our family and friends.
The loveliest owners and staff we’ve ever met!! food was very good, classic style Italian. I was a little disappointed with the presentation of the caprese salad which was very unripe tomato slices with mozzarella slices only, no basil or flavored oil. Otherwise a great neighborhood gem and nice spot for dinner with friends! Really can’t say enough wonderful words about Heather, her family and staff!! Will be back!
Was not at all conducive to our party of 8. I booked the reservation nearly a month in advance, therefore, they should have been prepared for us. We waited 20 minutes past our reservation time to actually be seated. Our party of 8 was oddly seated at a round table, pushed together with a rectangular table, which made for an odd setup that was not good for conversation amongst the table. Our server's toddler was also running around the restaurant, which was not necessarily the atmosphere we had in mind for a grown-up dinner on a Saturday evening. Was so looking forward to our annual holiday dinner with dear friends, and was very disappointed with our experience. Would not recommend-not good for a large group, but also way too congested for an intimate dinner/date night.
Food was mediocre. Service was bad.
Pumpkin Ravioli was wonderful!! The chicken picatta was not tender and seemed to have no lemon in it. It was disappointing. Servers were great and they made you feel very welcome and at home. Pistachio desert was unusual and delicious. I would dine there again but would not order the chicken.
Average meal. Average service. Not cheap. Feh.
Love this place. Sam and Tommy are so friendly and Cosimo’s food is superb. We keep going back. Superb!!!
The food itself was pretty good , but we had a 7:30 reservation and didn’t get seated until 8:20. There is only a tiny bar with 4 seats that you can sit at to wait but there was 20+ people waiting as well. No one came to tell us about how long the wait would be, not the greatest customer service and there was no point for us to make a reservation.
Really wonderful food great value wonderful wait staff
Beautiful restaurant. Easy to park. Really good Italian food. Love that it's a BYOB. Everyone was so kind and accommodating. Tommy was our waiter. So friendly. He was terrific! The owner Cozimo was so nice. We were very happy with our choice to dine at Caffe Valentino!
Outstanding food, charming owners great service in this warm and welcoming BYOB
Second time here in a few weeks, same feeling: good food, good service, but somehow pretentiously overpriced. Was disappointed too that we made it known on the reservation that this was a birthday celebration, and the waiter acknowledged it when we arrived, but there was nothing noted when dessert was served--no a candle, no happy birthday wishes.
A true dining gem hidden in plain sight. The pizza and the entrees are pure Italian, can't wait to return.
My wife and I have a weekly date night and prefer BYOB. I read some reviews and had a few concerns. I must say the people who had complaints must be the type that just like to complain about anything they can find. This restaurant is absolutely amazing and is by far the best Italian food in philly. I grew up in south philly eating my close friends Italian grandmothers cooking so I know great Italian food.
We ordered the specials for our appetizers and entree's and the plates were spotless when we were done eating. Home made pasta!!! Whaaatttt!! Flavors were out of this world. Cosimo cooked us the most delicious meals and he came out to each table to check up on his customers. That is simply respectable and the finishing touch to this local gem. His wife Heather sat and waited on us with help from Sam. They are the nicest and most polite people I’ve ever met in the restaurant business. You must come here to eat. Not one complaint.
