its no mean feat doing a great job in service, food preparation and presentation in the pandemic, especially in the heart of NYC , and Caravaggio did not disappoint!
The food and the service are always spectacular. I would not Sit outside in 36 degree weather but the food was not worth it. The bread basket is outrageous and the good is always innovative yet approachable abs not pretentious.
Great food. Interesting taste combinations. Great service. One caveat. The lamps for the side walk dining are not lit until 5pm, and it was quite cold
So ready for indoor dining with Caravaggio! My favorite restaurant. The service was wonderful the other night - we had a wonderful time.
Excellent food and nice location near the Metropolitan Museum of Art and other destinations. Current has a heated outdoor seating area and reservations were available. Wines by the glass average $20, but there is a nice selection also of cocktails around the same price. Salads were around the same average but were ample. Pasta was delicious. Many selections without meat are available.
Absolutely incredible experience! I live in Connecticut where we are still dining indoors for the most part. I was skeptical about dining in NYC, outdoors, in January. But I was so pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere was still romantic and authentic feeling. There wasn't many people there so we were lucky enough to have heaters on both sides of us. We didn't even ask for that. It was just graciously offered to us. We were also offered blankets. It was so cozy that we even took our coats off! The servers were incredible. So knowledgeable and had the best accents. They checked on us routinely; we never found ourselves sitting around waiting on them. The food, drinks, and deserts were perfectly made. Perhaps the greatest dinner experience of my life. I have zero complaints. Bravo! I'll definitely be back and will recommend!
Impressed. We will come back.
The food and staff here are top notch. The nightly specials never disappoint. Big portion sizes dont be afraid to order an appetizer for dinner and definitely don't skip dessert! Yum, yum, yum!
Only a great restaurant manages to maintain a wonderful ambiance in the middle of the COVID lockdown. Caravaggio does everything with style and grace. Other restaurants struggle with serving food at the proper temperature and time in the meal when only outdoors dining is allowed. This restaurant staff’s professionalism and love of food is even more welcome now. The food is classic Italian; good ingredients prepared with care and accompanied with an indulgent bread basket.
What a delicious and idyllic way to end a generally challenging year. We loved our meal and despite the cold, we stayed warm thanks to the food and ambience.
We reserved a table under the canopy. They gave it to others so we sat on the side walk where the wind was blowing and even the heat lamps didn’t help warm us.
They did give us blankets and the food and service was lovely as always.
It was just too cold.
Always a great meal! Professional, courteous staff!
Spaced out indoors
Felt comfortable
Wonderful food, friendly staff
Rude hostess gave us a bad table saying that the 4 empty good tables were reserved for others. When we left, only two were taken. Just for that I would never go back. Super expensive and service does not measure up to the price. Food was ok at best. I am known in many upper eastside restaurants as a great customer and excellent tipper. Not here. If you want to have a special night, there are many other places close by that value your business and offer a great dining experience...not this place.
The food is delicious, the service is wonderful. An excellent dining experience in every way!
Great menu, great service, good food, knowledgeable wine staff. What more could you want?
Nice outdoor experience a d great food and service. Second time there in a month.
Just excellent
Despite the fact that it was raining and a little chilly, we ate outside and Caravaggio provided adequate covering, a heater, and a properly masked staff so all felt safe in this Covid-Era. The restaurant offered the same excellent food and service it always does.
What an incredible experience! Caravaggio’s is now seating inside (25%). although the outdoor sidewalk had many customers, I reserved an indoor table, expecting rain.
In addition to the all encompassing menu, the server read a huge list of daily specials, several in each category. It was almost overwhelming. But once he said they were serving a special appetizer of roasted bone marrow with white truffle slices, I held up my hand. The meal started with an amuse Buche of cream of carrot soup with truffle oil. The soup was full of carrot flavor with a hint of nutmeg, and the truffle oil brought out the earthiness of the broth.
For a main course, I selected the roasted loon of venison with a chanterelle & venison Demi glacé, along with purées of turnip and cauliflower. & garnished with beetroot leaves. The venison was cooked to a perfect medium rare, and was tender and very flavorful. Not st all “gamey”. For dessert I had the Appel strudel, not a traditional Italian dessert, but ordered on the recommendation from the server. The vanilla bean gelato and homemade applesauce accompanying garnishes filled out the plate. The perfect dessert for this meal. The sommelier presented me with 2 barolo’s to taste and choose from when I said I’d like a glass of wine. We both selected the non vintage one. The servers anticipate every need, but are not obtrusive. I can’t wait to return so I can sample some of the other menu items!
Elegant service, exceptional food. A truly delightful Covid dining experience.
Excellent! Exceptional!Delicious!!!
The servers were rude to us when we asked questions about the menu and they were rushing us
Staff did a great job but with the 25% occupancy rule the place felt cold and without any sort of ambiance.. Just a few people dining on a Friday night. All in all an expensive and rather sad affair.. Staff were great and really did their best!
Was outside, under the circumstances , all was great
Always enjoy the great good and service!
Eating outside during Covid restrictions with truck idling a few feet from our plates was unappealing. And sitting in the street at an angle was uncomfortable. Most of these things are out of the restaurant’s control.
Terrific restaurant, great food and wonderful service. I recommend this restaurant for both outside dining and take-out.
I had such high hopes for this place and have wanted to check it out for years, but my experience was very disappointing. I will start by saying that the service was excellent. We didn't feel rushed and the servers were attentive. It was the food that was most disappointing. We started the meal with cocktails, which were fantastic and really got our hopes up that we were in for a treat. We ordered two appetizers- a soup and the heirloom tomato salad. I'm usually forgiving with mediocre food, but the soup wasn't just ok, it was bad. It was mostly tasteless and pasty, but the only flavors were of burnt bitter garlic and flour. The salad was almost good, but the basil was covered in holes from insects and the large tomatoes were mealy. Mozz was great and the small tomatoes were excellent.
Then the steak. This was a whole other level of disappointment. It was cut into a 2" x 2" cube and although I ordered medium rare there was a half-inch band of dry, chewy, grey inedible meat around a one-inch cube in the center of medium-well meat. Medium rare should be light pink throughout! I sent it back and the manager had the nerve to argue with me that they thought it was fine. It. Was. Grey. And I'm shocked that they would try to argue with me otherwise. Completely ruined the meal for me. Just because a small area in the center of steak might meet your criteria of medium-rare (which it wasn't) does not mean that "it was fine." I shouldn't have to carve through an inch of grey meat to get to the edible portion.
It's clear that this place might have been great at one point, but what is painfully obvious is that one of two things is happening- either they have serious issues with quality control or they simply don't care. It's probably a mixture of both.
What a horrible experience! Bad service, very Rude staff. We were kicked out of the restaurant by the manager because we were there for a couple of hours. The fact that we were a family of 4 and had spent $700 so far did not matter to them. If you want to just show off your clothes and jewelry surrounded by snobby infertile old ladies, this is the place to go! Now, if you are a happy family, wanting to have a great experience in a fancy, upscale restaurant, just pick somewhere else to go. I feel now that not only I wasted my time and money but the sense of injustice is the worse. No one called me back after I complained. Food is ok, but again, you can find so many other places where the whole experience will be MUCH BETTER!
This was the perfect anniversary lunch. The food and service were outstanding.
Excellent bread and appetizers but but the pasta with shrimp and crab was tasteless
Outstanding food but the service staff acted like they had a train to catch... pulling plates away while still chewing the last bite... delivering the check without it being basked for and then coming back 30 seconds later to take it before i had even looked at it. ..
pushing way too hard an extra cocktail/wine...
There are not many decent tables underneath a harshly lit scaffold... ours had a dripping of water falling on us.
Fabulous food but the rest was wildly disappointing.
Swordfish special was outstanding. Apps and meals were perfection.
Amazing food!
Despite the make shift outdoor dining in a semi construction zone, my husband and I had one of the most romantic and delicious meals in memory last Saturday night at Caravaggio. The use of plants to camouflage those day glow construction cones and welcoming, savvy wait staff were so accommodating... we felt we had stumbled into peer-pandemic Florence! Thank you!
I loved their specials menu. Was seasonal, creative and very fresh. I started with fig carpaccio then had the tuna ceviche which was one of the best ceviches I’ve ever had. So well prepared and tasty. Wish they always had it on the menu. Caravaggio will always be my favorite UES restaurant.
Delicious dependable ❤️✅
The quality and presentation of the food was outstanding. Not your typical italian fare. Outdoor seating was comfortable and spacious. Service was professional and attentive.
