We've been to the Meritage several times. The food is always fantastic, the service has always been excellent this time was no exception. We had a party of 6 on a Friday evening seated upstairs, the noise level was a bit higher than previous visits but we could still hear our party's conversation. When the check came there was an entry I didn't quite understand, I don't remember what the verbiage was but it was the gratuity entry. I had no problem with this but there was no subtotal after the food and drink. It would be nice to know the actual cost of the dinner and drinks before taxes and gratuity without the use of a calculator, but I suppose that's just me. We all had a very enjoyable visit.

We dined here for our anniversary (5/24) as we were in town for a wedding and we had the best time at C&J. The hostesses were friendly and we got seated immediately after we arrive for our 5:30 reservation. We were in the patio which was quiet and intimate. Nick & Zeke took very good care of us. Nick was friendly, personable, knowledgeable of the menu and offered some items that we could order. He checked on us at a good pace especially when each item we ordered came out to make sure it was to our liking. The food was equally as good as the service. My husband had the barrel-cut filet and I had the Australian wagyu and they were both so tender and cooked precisely to our liking. The wild mushroom tagliatelle was so delicious and should be served as its own entree. For dessert, we ordered the butter pie and it was heaven. Zach came out to greet us and asked if we were local. That’s a great quality of a restaurant making sure their customers (new and returning) are always made to feel at home. If we ever find ourselves back in Cindy, we will definitely stop here for a meal.

Our visit to Embers was our first though we have been aware of the restaurant for a long, long time. The dining room was quiet when we arrived at our 6:45 p.m. on a Wednesday and we enjoyed the tastefully decorated club decor. Randall waited on us and did in excellent job of guiding us through the menu. Being our first visit, we went with some of recommendations and were glad that we did. Randall highly recommended the Green Goddess salad which we split and was enough for the two of us, and was delicious. My wife ordered the scallops with risotto and asparagus. I ordered the small filet with brown sauce, mushrooms, and rice. Both presentations were artfully done and a reminder that it is part of what fine dining is all about. For dessert, we split the creme brûlée. My wife commented it was the best she had ever had. Randall did a fine job of steering us through our first visit to Embers. Based on our experience last Wednesday, it won't be our last.

Emily was our server. She had a wonderful personality and very attentive service. I was surprised to find out Trio offered 50% off any bottle of wine priced at $80 or less. We took advantage of that deal. We dined on a Wednesday evening and I forgot to ask what nights they offered the wine discount. Worth checking out!

Discover Cincinnati – Dayton

German heritage shines through Cincinnati’s dining culture, but recently the city’s been heating up with creative new cuisine, too. Cincinnati’s own Chef Jose Salazar was shortlisted for a James Beard Award, bringing national attention to an Ohio outlier. A new crop of farm-to-table European restaurants have been entering the scene as well. Downtown, you’ll find burger restaurants, bars, and upscale bistros. An hour’s drive to Dayton places you in the heart of a growing music scene, and the city is the unofficial funk capital of the country. We’ll cheers to that.
