Cinquecento Roman Trattoria
Need to book at 7:00 PM?Other great restaurants with availability.
Amazing ambiance but food was horrible. Don’t get the pasta here; we tried two kinds and they all tasted like microwave food.. the pasta was lumpy as if it sat in the kitchen for too long then reheated.
Our second time there (and first since approx 2016). Very much a loud, popular, busy Saturday night place. Service was fine, if a bit slow. Food was delayed coming out but server apologized for lengthy wait for appetizers. Pasta was good, not great. My wife's was under cooked, mine was cooked properly. Perhaps would be a better place on a weeknight when it's not as mobbed. Prices are very high for what you get, even when accounting for location (South End). Overall, not awful, but not much that really stood out apart from the back-lit Campari/Aperol towers. Can't comment on the drinks, though.
Food was great!! Service was slow. Got our coffees after our food, never got additional sauce requested. Great vibe. Would give another chance!
The restaurant could not honor our reservation. They couldn’t sit us down for another hour – hour and a half. In addition, the host was extremely rude to us. Did not apologize for not being able to accommodate us.
Beautiful setting with tightly spaced tables. Good service and hearty Roman inspired dishes. Very good wine list, but little value. Bottles all have high mark-ups and some wildly marked up. Our salads and dinners were spot on - full of flavor and perfectly seasoned.
Bruschetta was disappointing the night we went. Was better in prior visits.
The grilled octopus is terrific as was the linguine a la fungus. The wait did not seem to know the wine menu or the food that well although he was friendly.
Atmosphere was very pleasant but service was spotty.- waiter spilled a few things...but the space is great, the Duper Tuscan was quite nice.
Needs a bit of work—
Portion sizes great . Branzino was lovely
Christine invited us to have a delicious dinner at your restaurant. We had fun, ambiance was great and we all loved the food.
Took a long time to have our food arrive. The dishes were bland and flavorless. I ordered the faro with artichoke and asparagus and it was really quite tasteless. Others mentioned the same for their dishes.
We like the atmosphere and the food was surprisingly good. My husband had carbonara, which was not too heavy and done Al dente. I had octopus and tri color salad which were both very nicely put together. I find their tiramisu to be too sweet but overall very nice place to go for a date or hanging out with friends.
The bucatini carbonara, a staple menu item and a longtime favorite was inedible. It was the first time I've ever sent a dish back in a restaurant, and the 2nd plate was just as problematic, and I ended up not eating my main course. The server didn't offer an alternative, and management attributed it to a new chef without any adjustment of the check. Cinquecento has been a personal favorite since it opened, and hoping it corrects course with this issue (both the dish's preparation and customer service response)!
Favio was amazing as our waiter. Perfect time.
Excellent specials, value, and service, will return
Great food & service, love the vibe here
The restaurant has a very energetic environment with a fun bar and private area for events. The menu looked extremely appealing, but my meal was disappointing. I ordered a pomodoro pasta dish and the sauce looked caked on and almost as if the meal was prepared the benighted before and then refrigerated. The portions were also small and we had to ask the staff for table bread.
We had a large group, but the waitstaff was fantastic - and once they knew we were celebrating birthdays - they brought us all some champagne after our meals! Really great experience - would recommend highly
The food is much improved (thank you, Chef Draghi), and the staff is very accommodating and pleasant, but there seems to be shortage of wait staff, and the kitchen. We experienced long waits for food and clearing.
I had dietary constraints that the chef took care of in extraordinary fashion. Great food and service overall.
I have been going to Cinquecento for a few years now for brunch. It always serve delicious food and provide a quiet atmosphere.
Pasta was so dry, service was just ok. The clam with pasta dish was barely edible. Drinks good.
Great place for a Friday evening — great food, upbeat atmosphere.
Curtis the waiter was beyond rude. Not acceptable . Food was terrible
As always, service was impeccable. Willie is the most gracious and professional server.
I have consistently found this restaurant to be wonderful and my only complaint was the temperature. I was totally uncomfortable by the temperature I am sure it was over 78 or 80 degrees and I feel 70 degrees is much more reasonable at this time of year so that going in and out is less jarring.
Food was great. Unfortunately, our table for two seemed like an afterthought - wedged in between some large parties, a pole, and the bar. Servers were constantly bumping into us/our chairs. Also, it took about 5 minutes between when we ordered our entree and when we received our food. It was very clear that they wanted to turn the table over quickly, and with such poor service, we were happy to oblige.
Food was amazing, service was good but not great. Would definitely go back!
Willie was our server and he was excellent despite being short-handed. Knew the menu, attentive, all around great service.
Ambiance was great. Got a nice table. Took 20 minutes for someone to take our drink order. Once we had drinks took 40 minutes to place any food order. The server was working hard but just too extended.
Very noisy and hard to talk Slow service although server was a nice guy . One order arrived and was incorrect.
A forgettable experience
Sadly disappointed. Food quality is average, service good, but nothing like what it used to be. It's become 'girls night out' ... Nothing is quite right or as expected/advertised, too many substitutions because we don't...
Went here for our first anniversary dinner. Loved the food and loved Karen.
I had made reservations days beforehand and when we arrived we had to wait for 20 minutes. I get it, busy Friday night, not a big deal. When we were seated and the waiter asked our drink orders, my friend ordered a Knob Creek on the rocks. The water came back to our table and said they were out of Knob, to which my friend responded 'no you're not', and pointed to a full bottle behind the bar. Still, he ordered a different bourbon, since it didn't seem worthwhile trying to get an explanation as to why that completely full bottle of Knob Creek wasn't available to us (the waiter didn't have the answer). So our drinks came and we ordered two appetizers to enjoy with our drinks and ordered our entrees at the same time. The waiter came back to our table to tell us that one of the special entrees we had ordered was no longer available, which can happen, so a different entree was chosen. We also ordered another round of drinks. Before that round of drinks came, our entrees were brought to our table. No appetizers. At that point, obviously, we didn't want the appetizers since our entrees were already in front of us. We still hadn't received our second round of drinks. The lobster special was fantastic. The waiter was apologetic. The manager asked what he could do to make it up to us. We received our second round of drinks on the house (while also noting that the empty glasses from our first round were never removed from the table.) . We were also offered free desserts. I'm giving the restaurant on this night three stars because I've been there previously and had great service, etc. Also, the lobster special was, as I said, fantastic. Also the staff was very solicitous after realizing they had made mistakes. But, really, that night was not a great experience.
I wasn't happy that on a Wednesday night with a not full restaurant that they put us in the bar area and had the bartender be our waitress, I guess I was expecting more. The bartender was awesome.
Thought the portion size was inadequate for the prices charged.
Loved the use of the space wish we sat in the main dining area.
Would rather pay for parking and have a better meal!!!
Food was cold!
Nice atmosphere but the food was just okay
Veal was really okay , my pasta was like Udon
The service is lacking. The bartenders are very slow and not friendly. I have been here a few times and this last visit will be my last. The food is good, if only they could get some decent help. I feel like they may be understaffed.
I love this restaurant and was sad to have a bad experience there. We had an 8:15 reservation, and were not sat until 9pm. This would have been ok if the bar was running smoothly, but it took 30 mins just to get 2 cocktails. The food was also no where near as good as it has been in the past and service was very slow. This place used to be my go-to Italian in the area, but I wouldn't recommend it to people anymore knowing they may have the same issues.
We had a reservation for 2 and got a small cramped table. We saw 2 bar seats open and asked to move there. The manager and hostess were very accommodating. However upon sitting at the bar the bartendress was completely depressing. No life no smiles and slow slow to serve. Food was adequate but service by staff lacking. atmosphere was fabulous. Beautiful building and dining area.
Cinquecento is our family's go to place for celebratory dinners. Our last visit was perfect as usual. With a party of 10, it can be hard finding a place in Boston to fit us all. Cinquecento does it well from the space to the service and of course, the food. Free parking is a great plus too. For starters, I love the new kale salad and the switch from the fried, to sauteéd artichokes. All the pastas are delicious. I would like to see some more vegetarian (not pasta) and fish entreés.
