Best European Restaurants in Altona

I cannot begin to explain how incredible our dining experience was last night. It was my birthday and I wanted it to be special, but it blew out beyond my top expectations and then some! I can honestly say, this was the best restaurant experience I have ever had in Australia. The food was astounding, the service extraordinary and all up….simply and utterly total perfection! This place was just what we were looking for. A little slice of Italy. There was only one dish that we did not like and that was a bit of a misunderstanding as to what we were getting. Everything else was exceptional. Despite being a bustling little place, they put us in the back corner of the restaurant and it was definitely not too noisy. Just enough to give atmosphere, but we could easily converse.

We had a fantastic experience at The Carlton Wine Room. The wine list was excellent, with plenty of interesting choices, and the menu was creative and a little different. Everything we tried was delicious, but the scallop and wallaby were definite standouts. The service was excellent — warm, attentive and knowledgeable without being overbearing. Great food, great wine and a really enjoyable atmosphere. Would definitely recommend!

The best meal ever, wr go out at least twice a week, but this is the best will be rebooking often.

My visit was nostalgic. My first visit on a visit from Sydney was in the middle 60's, then more frequent from 1970 when I was transferred to Melbourne and much more through to the end of the Century. I am happy to state, it is still Jimmy Watson's, thank you very much.
