Welcome to Saltire Estate, a family-owned winery located in the heart of the Hunter Valley. Our wines are born out of a passion for this beautiful region and its connection to ancient Scotland.The Hunter Valley is renowned for its world-class wines, and we're proud to be a part of this rich winemaking tradition. Our vineyard was originally part of the George Hunter Estate, established in the 1970s. Today, our Semillon, Shiraz, and Merlot vines are all that remain of this once sprawling 500-acre estate.We're proud to honour the legacy of James Busby, the proud Scot known as the father of Australian wine. Busby brought 500 cuttings from Europe to Australia and planted them in the Hunter region of Belford, not far from Lovedale.At Saltire Estate, we're committed to providing great quality wine at an affordable price. We believe that great wine doesn't need to be expensive, and we work hard to provide exceptional value to our customers.

Cara Bistro & Wine Bar is the venture of young couple Max Crawford and Jess Newby. Cara means dear one or beloved in Gaelic and Italian, and is used for old friends. The Bistro is tucked away in The Junction Village, in the left corner. Cara is designed to be a place you can regularly come for a bite to eat and a glass of something delicious. The venue is very intimate. There is plenty of bar space if you are by yourself and an open kitchen so you can chat to Max while he is cooking, as well as watching what is happening. For the Summer nights, there is terrace seating. The menu utilises seasonal produce and changes regularly so there will always be something new, with lots of French, Italian, Spanish and British influences. Max has worked around the world. Notably in Toronto, Canada, at Guilietta, and in London in Petersham Nursery and with Chris Leach of Manteca. He also spent time in Tasmania as head chef at Havilah Wine Bar - by Ricky Evans of Two Tonne in the Tamar Valley.

Following this philosophy, Hope Brewery opened in 2014, and kicked off their range with a whole lot of hoppy ales, distinctively recognisable by their black cans and amp design - a homage to Hope's love of music. Since then they've been satisfying a desire for new beers and new styles including NEIPAs, sours, trophy-winning stouts and even Australia's strongest IPA.

    Fantastic dinner experience! We visited with a group of 10 for a birthday celebration and everything was excellent. From delicious food to great service, and a lovely atmosphere. The team went above and beyond to accommodate dietary requirements and were very communicative over email. Highly recommend and can't wait to come back!

    Outstanding!! We had booked a wine and cheese tasting, we were running a little late to which they were happy to take us a hour later which allowed us ample time to arrive. When we got there we were greeted by Krista who took us on a wine-derful journey explaining the different grapes and flavours we should expect then how the flavour interacts with the cheese. It was a fantastic experience and for my mum who was a first timer a great example of how the right person can truely make an experience unique. Thank you Krista! We’ll be back every time we’re in the hunter

    Perfect date night location. The menu, although small was good and what we had was delicious and full of flavour. we went on pasta night and it was fab. Max was very impressive as a one man show, making cocktails, cooking, host with the most. Highly recommend!
