Overall, I would recommend Dettera for a relaxing and enjoyable meal. The food was well prepared and the service was excellent.
Our family of five was in town for Fathers Day, three adult daughters. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience. We were seated in a premier both on the first floor - very comfortable, allowing privacy but being close to the vibe of the bar. The cocktails came quickly, each poured from an individual shaker. We enjoyed apps of mushroom toast, octopus, tuna, beet salad and a special burritos and peach salad. They were shared around the table and very much enjoyed. Hard to choose the best as all were excellent! For dinner, the girls had the app portion of cavatelli and pappadelle, plenty for them and tasty. Husband has pork tenderloin, said he should have order medium rare. It good nonetheless. I had the roast chicken which was excellent. Overall very much enjoyed.
Overall we had a great time at Detterra and had great service and food. I had the steak and though the flavor was great, the meat was extremely chewy and tough. For $45 it was quite literally hard to swallow. My boyfriend had the pork tenderloin and enjoyed it, but thought some pieces were a bit dry. The standout was the mushroom toast as an appetizer. So good! We also had a fantastic server who, though busy, was very attentive. We’ll definitely be back for appetizers, but might skip out on a full meal.
This is our second time eating there. First time over a year ago was very good this time not so. Upon arrival, despite having empty tables downstairs, we were taken to a table upstairs which was dead. Only two other tables occupied on the whole floor. We requested to be seated downstairs and were initially told that due to our reservation being made late we were automatically seated upstairs. I questioned that response stating I made the reservation the day before. The hostess then backtracked and said she could seat us downstairs. Which she did.
After ordering drinks and receiving them the waitress came to take our orders. My wife stated that we were going to order appetizers first and entrees later. The waitress then stated that we had to place the order for both at the same time and the reason being so we wouldn’t have to wait for the entrees. I stated we were in no rush and could wait. The waitress then stated that chef required the order be placed together and then gave us a moment to look at the menu again. After reviewing the menu we opted to order appetizers only and another round of drinks.
Food was OK. (oysters & octopus were OK, Caesar salad very good).
Upon reviewing the bill my wife noticed that we were charged $16/glass of wine instead of the $14 listed on the menu. All in all, very disappointing.
We had a lovely birthday dinner - food was excellent.
Great to be out again. The service, host, bartender, server were friendly and efficient. The food was outstanding, Tender Octopus, Plump delicious Oysters, Melt in your mouth perfectly cooked Lamb and a Wood Grilled whole fish with a perfectly paired sauce. All this and a sophisticated atmosphere made this experience special.
Really great outdoor space in Ambler! But super disappointed in the food for the price.
Perfect place for first restaurant venture out after the pandemic. Can't wait to return!
Great food and service!
The food was delicious for what it was. The portions on the other hand were very small, especially for the price paid and the menu was very limited. We enjoyed the meal but won't be going again. We actually ended up going to another restaurant and ordering an appetizer and dessert due to still being hungry.
Very nice service and great food
Lexi was our server and she’s the best. She’s far more personable than some servers. Great job Lexi.
Not much on the menu and pricey
We had an excellent meal with wonderful service. This spot has become a date night fixture.
Deterra never disappoints. Always a fantastic experience.
Birthday dinner. Wonderful table outside in the alley. Lovely place to talk and enjoy a delicious meal together.
We had a great meal at Dettera! We were seated on the side patio. They had heaters and lights set up, so it was very comfortable. Tables were spaced appropriately. Our server was excellent. We enjoyed our cocktails and our meals. We've been here many times and will return again. Thank you!
The food was really good - especially the sea bass that my friend and I both ordered, and the fried brussel sprouts were wonderful.
The service was good and friendly - except that the waitress didn't come back to check on us after the entrees were delivered, and I had to hunt for her to pay the check after almost 2 hours at the table.
While pricey - I'd definitely go back.
Deterra never disappoints, consistently great food, drink and service!
Branzino was excellent as well as the striped bass.
Wish they didn’t run out of left hand milk stout
Great service and great food!
Amazing meal...chef Power is an artist!
Good food nice ambiance. Would return for sure. we y’all had a good time
Love the ambience and service but pork tenderloin was a bit dry and tough.
We experience wait service that was epically bad. Our server failed to ask ANY questions (beyond taking our order). Every pass through our table was left with an unattended need. Each time plates were cleared, something hit the floor (knives, lamb chop bones, etc). When I asked the waitperson a question, her response came while she looked at her watch. The most egregious events were when overlooked other empty plates and attempted to clear our cheese board, which still contained a few pieces of cheese. We weren’t able to stop her before she grabbed the board and pulled it, dropping a piece of cheese on the table. When we told her we were not finished with it, she replaced it and PICKED UP THE FOOD AND PLACED IT BACK ON THE BOARD! If that was not enough, the food runner slung one of the entre plates on the table with sufficient force to send a lamb chop tumbling across the table.
We were there to celebrate a birthday and refused to allow the service to disrupt our fun. With that said, it is highly improbable we will ever return and I will definitely make a point to deter others from making the mistake that we made.
Food was fantastic and service on time, friendly, etc., looking forward to going back. Rack of Lamb was amazing!
We had a nice spot on the patio and enjoyed our meal
My husband took me on a date. I chose the place. The restaurant is close to our home, and it offered outdoor dining! We were extremely pleased with the ambiance, service and food. We will definitely dine here again!
This restaurant is the best in the neighborhood. The food is delicious and the service excellent. I plan to visit again soon
We ordered the rack of lamb and herb roasted half chicken...both were delicious! The restaurant is beautiful, we will definitely be back another night!
We have been to Dettera multiple times and this was the first time during Covid. First, the menu is very limited even for the drinks. We ordered octopus,it was so tiny covered with artichokes and garlic to look bigger. The drink was also a big cube of ice with a bit of alcohol. The steaks price was ridiculous. Total rip off . Very disappointed.
Wonderful food, kind and friendly service. So nice to be able to have a quality and fun night out these days. Highly recommend Deterra. We’ll be back for our next date night.
Sat for 2 hours and never got our entrees. Appetizer took 40 minutes to come and it was undercooked flatbread. Waitress not attentive and we told her to cancel our order because we were leaving. Was told that the chef and manager were coming out to speak to us and no one ever showed up. Extremely disappointed.
My family dined at Dettera for my birthday. The service was extremely poor. The waitress was rude. She slammed down our drinks and food. She didn’t bring the dessert we ordered. She ruined a nice family evening. We will not return.
My wife and I went for the first time. The server was friendly but, service was slow. There were a few items and drinks on the menu, that they didn't have, like sparkling wine(at a wine bar). The cheese tray for an appetizer was very small, especially for the price.
The entrées were fresh and tasted good but not many options on the menu.
Date night with wife for valentines dinner. Service and food was exceptional, definitely will be back.
Center city style dining! But much closer to home
Great night !
