Don Lobos Mexican Grill
Excellent food and coy ambience. A great place to ear well and relax with friends
Our experience was pretty underwhelming. They were badly understaffed and everything took forever. Then when we ordered veggie fajitas, they were basically frozen vegetables that had been sautéed. They are tasteless. Then we got a tiny bit of salsa, lettuce and sour cream on the side. No cheese and no beans. The tortillas were good.
Our favorite neighborhood stop!
The service, ambiance, food, and drink were outstanding. They have been there for at least 20 years. No restaurant can be in Georgetown that long if they were not good. I recommend Don Lobos to anyone who wants really good Mexican - not Tex-Mex - food.
Fresh chips and warm salsa a great start. Had a chicken and beef burrito and my friend had small shrimp fajita. Both good dishes and tasty. Definitely should be on your list.
Rude and forgetful service, very small portions
This place - to me - was a hidden gem! I have been to Georgetown a million times, but never seemed to notice this place. Well, that won't happen again! Yes, it's tiny, but the size of the place belies the quality of the food. And the house margarita was one of the best I've had in the DMV.
Face it, Mexican, or specifically, TexMex, is not a quality cuisine in this area, but you'd never know it from the food Don Lobos serves. I had jalapeno stuffed prawns wrapped in bacon for my dinner, served over a bed of grilled onions on a hot fajita plates. Fresh tortillas, pico de gallo and guacamole made it a perfect meal. My friend, a colleague from Singapore, had a tasty red-wine sangria to accompany her carne asada, which looked amazing! I wish I could have eaten two meals and I would have tried that as well.
The waitress was attentive and darling, checking on us several times during the meal, but not so often as to be a nuisance. And the prices were so reasonable: my entree was the most expensive on the menu and topped out at $23.00. Wonderful evening and I'll definitely be taking other friends there in the future!
Great neighborhood vibe with lots of locals. Super friendly staff. Good food!
Exceptional food and margaritas. Can’t wait to go back.
We were looking for a reasonably priced restaurant in the Georgetown area while on our vacation in DC. So happy we found Don Lobos on-line! The food was authentic, served hot right out of the kitchen, & delicious! Great, friendly service and reasonably priced! It’s a small place with a typical Mexican decor but great for a casual dinner! All four of us enjoyed it!
Unfortunately, the restaurant was closed when we arrived for our 10:30 reservation on a Sunday morning. No hours were posted, no real website could be found, and no one answered the phone. OpenTable has great customer service and responded quickly which was much appreciated! It looked really fun inside and I wish we could have dined here. Maybe next time!
The portion size was small for the price. Rather than enchilada sauce on the enchiladas it was barbecue sauce. The salsa was warm and was not a good flavor. They didn’t bring the chips out until our food arrived. Cute place. Probably won’t go back
Festive atmosphere, fresh food and fantastic margarita's. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner and the service was friendly. We will be back on our next Georgetown visit!
Owners/Mgt was wonderful helping me in my wheelchair and mobility impairment, very accommodating! Tight squeeze to restrooms. It's a local dc restaurant serving mostly authentic Mexican comfort foods, tacos, taquitos, quesadillas, combo platters enchiladas and rellenos. Hand made margarita. They deliver within 1-2mi gtown-Arlington.
My parents and I tried Don Lobos on a whim the first time that my parents were in town. The dining area is small, but the atmosphere was great! The food was delicious and full of flavor.
This was some of the most mediocre Mexican food I have ever had. The Sangria, which the menu says has fruit, did not and was just ok. Nachos came with a small blob of guacamole on one chip, a dollop of sour cream on another, a spoonful of jalapeños on another over a thinly spread layer of refried beans. The only thing evenly spread was the cheese. It was passable. I had the steak fajitas. Steak was not seasoned well and was tough. The dish consisted mainly of onions, and the condiments on the side were very stingy. There was about a tablespoon of what looked and tasted like store bought guacamole, a very small amount of pico de gallo, a little bit of lettuce and a normal portion of rice. No beans. My spouse had the shrimp and crab enchiladas which came with red sauce. He was not impressed. We will not be back.
This place has great food and great service. We're from Austin, Texas with lots of Tex-Mex and interior Mexican food options in our neighborhood. Don Lobos would make our dining rotation back home; the kids loved it too.
This Mexican restaurant was very authentic and their margarita was on point. Fantastic guacamole and the server Olivia really could not have been any better looking after our large group of 20. We had an amazing evening.
Pleasantly surprised with the food, atmosphere, and service. Will be back when feeling like Mexican food in Georgetown.
We arrived and were dressed immediately as it was not busy. They gave us the food quickly after we ordered and it was very good.
We were in DC at the Hirshhorn and decided we wanted Mexican food. We found Don Lobos Mexican Grill on Open Table and made reservations (Early dinner on a weekday - reservations are not necessary. There were 3 other diners when we arrived.) Don Lobos is a very small, laid-back, cozy restaurant with good food. (There is a stairway as you walk in so I think they may have a larger room upstairs). Our server was polite and helpful.
The food was hot and good. The chicken was tender, well trimmed and plentiful. The salsa was different, rather spicy and a bit smoky. The chips were tasty but a bit tough. My husband ordered a thick and crispy Chicken Chimichanga and I had a Garden Burrito with a side of delicious guacamole. My Burrito was full of veggies and drizzled with a delicious green sauce. It was just perfect to accent the vegetables. I was tempted to ask for more!
We will recommend it to our friends but since we do not live nearby, it may be a long time before we visit again.
Welcomed by a kid who knew about the food very well, then we asked the difference between pitcher of margarita and regular and suggested the value for money pitcher. So we did. Had delicious nacho's, taco's and enchilada's. Good food, good service!
Great food served quickly.
I think someone must have called out because they did not have enough servers and our poor waiter was running around like crazy. The food was still very good and when we asked for refills we got them, but we had to flag it down
It wasn't the best Mexican food I have ever had.....what I expected for DC. If you go don't get the margaritas!!
Good authentic Mexican food, pleasant atmosphere, very friendly staff.
Great little Mexican spot! Our food was delicious and the service was great. I loved their salsa which was medium on the hot scale. I do wish they offered a version that was spicier - that is my only complaint.
What a great little mexican gem we found!
Nice small intimate restaurant, great food, great service!
Really good salsa, and the enchiladas with mole was good.
Margaritas were very expensive and tasted like cheap margarita mix. Salsa was warm and not good. Food was ok. Service was very slow.
This place was great. Did a google search for the closest Mexican to me and came up with this. Was greatly surprised by how excellent it was. It was really really really good. I have already recommended to friends and will continue to do so. The beans especially were fantastic.
Perfectly fine Mexican restaurant, but nothing special. Very small, attentive service, fresh food, good sangria.
I've been going to this restaurant for years and it is always great. Good guacamole, fantastic salsa, and the Enchilada Verde never disappoint.
My chicken enchilada was great and my friend enjoyed his steak quesadilla. We both had frozen margaritas - it was fun!
The service and food at Don Lobos is outstanding. It is an undiscovered and unrated gem on M Street, especially when it comes to sit down for a reasonable price. Frozen Margaritas are AMAZING. Don't forget to try the Sopapillas for dessert :)
The wait staff was very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, the food was not very good. I ordered flautas and was given something that was more like a chimichanga - and the taste was not great. The rice was dry and tasteless as well. I have actually never written a poor review for a restaurant anywhere - but, the food really was not good.
You have to really be craving Mexican food to eat here. It wasn't bad but certainly wasn't good.
Thank you again for a wonderful meal! The margaritas are superb and the service is attentive
