Upstairs Bar Hours:
Great variety of tacos for a great price. They are small street tacos so be sure to order a few! The service was great and so fast, we honestly didn’t wait more than 6 minutes for our app and food!
Second time going to Don taco, both times service has been good, even when further from the server order entry and wait area. Really good food, have only done the tacos so far. Fairly keto friendly, and can do lettuce shells for dietary demands. Good spot for dates to keep things light, and encourage conversation. Not too high end like some places in the area, but still very nice. Only downside is you can rack up a bill pretty quick if your hungry and drinking, and the options for ordering in rounds is fun but tricky if you aren't keeping a mental tab.
Alcohol was good, bit high price, but goes with the area and the environment.
Very likely a returning customer for the future, also appreciate that that aren't stressed over the reservation timing and being a few minutes early or late.
Really good, tiny little tacos. Each one - we tried six different- was really good. My favorite was the cauliflower - super tasty! Other person loved the “land and sea” taco - shrimp and beef. I also got the mushroom (it had a LOT of shrooms) and the avocado (actually maybe that was my favorite-so yum!). Tacos are on corn tortillas - didn’t see option for flour tortillas.
Also ordered the small size of guacamole… It was a really big serving for being the “small” size. The guacamole and three tacos each was very filling for two people.
Service was quick! It was a slow night so the food came out quickly.
Margaritas- I love margaritas and theirs are pretty good. $5 happy hour (till 8pm) Monday’s. I think Thursday it’s happy hour on beer. Only complaint - too small! They come in a water glass, not a humongous margarita glass.
Overall: tasty food, fun dining experience. Affordable.
Fantastic tacos. I find that I tend to prefer their “unusual” tacos more than the traditional ones. My current fave is the cauliflower tempura taco, and the sriracha chicken, bulgogi beef, and lamb tacos are always tasty.
Drinks are great, food is good. Its a good bar.
There to celebrate a birthday, good food and drinks!
The waiter was helpful in making a drink decision and was good about checking back. Fun, friendly environment with some fairly healthy meal options mixed with tasty drink options
Different kind of Mexican restaurant but it was great!
This was our first visit and our party of 6 were pleasantly surprised by the good food. The menu is limited but we enjoyed the delicious non traditional taco selections, the tostadas, Quesadilla and the seafood ceviche. The latter was superb with just the right amount of lime juice. The jalapeño peppers added a very strong kick. We all shared baskets of corn tortilla chips and salsa with guacamole. The salsa was fresh with just the right amount of cilantro. The chips were warm and lightly salted. The guacamole was fresh and delicious. You won't break the bank here as the serving sizes are tapas size. An enjoyable meal overall and experience.
Go for the tacos (TACO OF THE DAY), stay awhile to enjoy the frozen passion fruit margarita ! Love this place. Amazing how three small tacos can fill you up ! Try the street corn as well. One of my neighborhood spots that is always consistent. Well done DON TACO !
Every time I'm in the DC area, I try to stop by Don Taco. The tacos here are so fresh and original. I had the taco of the week which was a fried oyster, tartar sauce and grilled peppers. It sounds like it wouldn't go together, but it was amazing! My recommendation is to just go and order some tacos. You won't be disappointed.
Jonathan was a terrific waiter. He brought our margaritas right away, explained the menu and the special taco of the day. We were served quickly. The fried avocado, cauliflower tempura, and carne assada (special taco) were all delicious! The margarita was average, nothing special about it but adequate. Our party of 5 enjoyed the variety on the menu and appreciated being placed slightly away from the bar so we could hear our conversation.
My frirnd and I shared a seafood ceviche dish. It was very tasty, light and just the right amount of seasoning and vinegarette sauce. Since we came for dinner, we each had a rice bowl. My friend had the carnitas (shredded pork) bowl and I had the potabella mushroom bowl.. They were good, but too salty. We also shared a basket of corn tortilla chips and salsa. The salsa was incredibly good - a unuque flavor. It was thick, with stewed tomatoes, chopped green jalapeños and just the right amount of salt and spice. The tortilla chips were thick, but bland, not very flavorful.. I'm originally from New Mexico and very picky about Mexican food. Thete are so many restaurants that serve tacos and rice bowls. Don Taco needs to step up its game.. if they want to get more business.
Good food but the downstairs dining is not conducive to groups. The booths, while providing a feeling of intimacy for a couple, do not promote easy conversation for a party of six.
I am only sorry I did not find Don Taco sooner. The street tacos are imaginative and DELICIOUS. The bulgogi had so much flavor my taste buds were singing. Then I had the fried avocado and thought perhaps I had died and this is what they serve in heaven...so yummy. I can't wait to go back and try more menu items! Also, great service. We really enjoyed our dinner at Don Taco and will definitely go back.
We were there for my teenage daughter‘s birthday party and the service was atrocious. I had to ask five times for utensils four times for water. Etc. I was very disappointed and the waitress knew it and did nothing to apologize or compensate. I don’t plan to go to Don taco again😫
I took my daughter to Don Tacos for her birthday because she loves tacos. It was our first time there. They have a good variety of tacos and they were really good! However, I loved the fried avocado tacos and my daughter loved the Mr. Cordero. We will visit again!
I love their guacamole! Tried the rice bowl this time instead of tacos and really enjoyed it. I will definitely order it again.
Really great food. The seating was nice. Ordering the different tacos was easy. They give you a checklist and you check off which tacos you want from the descriptions. Awesome place all together. We will definitely be back.
Meat was consistently way over cooked--like it had been sitting for hours until someone ordered it. Service was lackluster, but not bad. Were seated right next to the bar, despite having a reservation several days in advance (maybe this is normal?). Will not be returning.
The food is not mexican street style. In fact, I was not impressed at all. Good for drinks not for food
Delicious, authentic, street tacos and margaritas. Good service.
Delicious food...best guacamole I’ve ever tasted! Our server was fantastic.
Good food and excellent staff
Simple and semi-divey but fantastic street tacos, burritos, and other US versions of Mexican food. Great bar, attentive and quick service. Probably not my choice with kids, but a great place for a group of friends or just one friend. Reservations recommended as it always seems busy. Prices are very fair considering location and the food quality, in my view. A great place to go if you’re hungry!
We love Don Taco! Always great food and service; fast and consistent
The tables were a bit close together and the house wine wasn’t great, but the service was nice and efficient, ordering was easy, salsa was really good and tacos were great!
Great food, fun concept. Really unique and delicious tacos
Great lunch. Impressed daughter!
This was our second visit to Don Taco. We loved it the first time and we’re disappointed this time. The water and iced tea were warm and we weren’t given ice. The tacos were over-filled and fell apart. The server was inattentive and didn’t bring us more water until we had asked 3 times.
Great tacos! Unfortunately, not so great margaritas. Tastes like a mix and not a very good one. It’s the artificial aftertaste that gets to me. Back to the tacos...GREAT!
Great food. Great service. Fabulous happy hour jalapeño margarita. Adding to my Old Town rotation.
My friend had never been to the restaurant and was thrilled with it. She never ventured in because the sign out front says tequilas bar and she is not interested in tequila. One can get a light lunch here or just keep eating. Tacos made of all different ingredients are available. All are very good.
Great food! Super weekend brunch prices - $2 mimosas and $4 Bloody Mary.
Quick and tasty meal before an event nearby. I'll return next time I'm in Old Town Alexandria
Our food was great. I loved the cauliflower taco. The blend of sweet and spicy was delicious. Taco if the week, carne asada was very good as well. We also had the fried avocado, chicken and the dilly dilly. All of the tacos were great!! Our waiter was super nice and gave us great suggestions.
Wonderfully creatuve and very fresh bite-soze tacos. I’m actually not a fan of tacos, but LOVE Don Taco!
Absolutely amazing. Food was consistently good across the board. Seasoning is plentiful and perfect. The tortilla for the tacos are authentic and again, just perfect. Never had a better hunch of tacos. Great margaritas. Was noisy but there was a game so it was no big deal for us.
Mother’s Day was excellent with our group of 12.
Better than what I expected. I see/hear a lot of people saying they love tacos and I never really saw what the big deal was. This place was really good, great location, affordable and the mimosas were right on time for Sunday Brunch. I'll definitely be going back.
