Probably a good ice cream place but brunch was bad. Outrageously slow for brunch and most of the meals were sub par.
Got there when the place was nearly empty. Still wound up waiting 25 minutes for our food... which included a bagel w cream cheese & lox. Blackberry french toast was ok. Probably enough for two, especially if one of you isn’t that hungry. The noise level got much worse as they filled up with crying children. Not a great place for intimate conversation because you can easily be overheard. Ok place for a group brunch I suppose.
Best shrimp and grits I’ve ever had in my life!
The staff were very attentive. The food very good. I will definitely go back.
Excellent food and attentive staff.
Tuesday half price bottles of wine after 6 pm. Fresh ingredients but needs more seasoning on many things
We enjoyed our first outing to FDB for brunch. The only thing I would change would is getting fresh local bagels for the Nova platter. The Frittata was delicious, as was the French toast. We will return.
FDB Eatery is a hidden gem! Don't let first appearances fool you. When I walked in and saw the ice cream/take out counter, I was confused, but once seated I was pleasantly surprised. The Sauvignon Blanc by the glass was flavorful and the serving size was generous. The food was incredibly fresh and well prepared. The small heirloom tomatoes were extremely flavorful and the avocado was perfectly ripe in my salad. It tasted like a garden to table menu in the middle of summer but I was dining in December. FDB takes reservations which I always prefer, but they weren't necessary. Go to this restaurant soon, as this place is a treasure.
Mmmm good. Fine food. It's the spot with frozen custard, too. Great.
Great service! The staff shared responsibilities and were very responsive to our table. My mom is 81 and has a small appetite and ordered the fish and chips. She ate all of the fish (it was a good serving) and nearly all of the fries! We'll definitely be returning just for that. The calzone was delicious and and big so we went home with leftovers. Saving room for the frozen custard is a must!
My food was tasty, but my companions did not care for their meals. Another patron ordered a burger, and she commented that their burgers are great. Uneven, but I'd return. Great desserts.
It was the opposite of what we expected. It's not a restaurant, it's like an ice cream shop with an add-on where they put tables. It's very noisy.
Great neighborhood spot for comfort foods and custard!!! Staff is helpful and friendly. Good mix of sandwiches, burgers and dinner options. Loved the she crab soup and interesting salads. And leave room for custard. yummy, yummy custard!!
We had made a reservation thru Open Table. Upon our arrival, we were the only customers in the entire restaurant, yet the waitress admonished us for not returning her call to confirm the reservation earlier in the day even though we had not been home to receive the call. Upon arriving home to hear the message we noticed that the person had not bothered to even leave the return phone #. The sandwiches were ok - messy with balsamic glaze squirted on the outside of the focaccia rather than on the chicken itself which was very much in need of flavor. Waitress was attentive during the meal.
As a neighborhood place it is good. For the cost, the food should be a bit nicer. Their pear salad is good but their burgers and other sandwiches are only OK. The wait staff was very attentive and friendly.
Family friendly restaurant with four local microbrews on tap. Serves pizza and comfort foods. Food was good. Save room for frozen custard for dessert.
Great food. Just a bit slow
We've enjoyed every meal we've had at FDB. Great staff, too.
This was my second visit. Again, we had great service. The Eatery has a nice variety of options where everyone should find something they'll like. Be sure to save room for their frozen custard - it's delicious.
Amazing food. Unassuming exterior, but trust me, this place is a must.
This was my first visit to this restaurant, but my sister and friend who were with me, had been there previously. We arrived a few minutes early for our 12:30 reservation and it was pretty evident that they were busy. They have a walk up counter to order ice cream, and a bunch of tables to the right, behind a partition. After waiting for several minutes, one of the waitresses cleaned off a table next to the walk up counter and sat us there, where we were promptly forgotten. It took several minutes for our waitress (who sat us) to come ask for our drinks but she never brought us menus. About 5 minutes after that (still without drinks) my friend got up and asked another waitress to give us menus and silverware. Finally, our drinks arrived by a different waiter, who was very awkward and told us that it was a lot of drinks for him to be carrying. I don't see how that was pertinent to our drink order, but OK. Eventually, our actual waitress came back and asked for our food order. The wait time for the food wasn't bad itself, but we had to ask several times for more coffee & water, and since we weren't seated with anyone else, we were always forgotten. In fact, we only got 1 refill of coffee and water for our entire stay (1.5 hours).Once our food came, the waitress was pretty awkward with delivering it (which was when we had to ask for our refills) and eventually, I got up and asked the guy behind the ice cream counter for condiments that we needed. Finally, at the end of the meal, we asked for a box, which our waitress forgot about, and the awkward drink guy came back and took the plate away to box up in the back. Never in any of this, was my empty plate cleared, or my sisters plate asked to be boxed up and she had half her meal left. It wasn't until we were asked if we wanted dessert that the extra plates were cleared.
Nice place for family brunch. Staff was exceptionally patient with our children. Thank you.
Excellent food! We will be back. The menu is varied with some very interesting items. Wonderful local business to support!
Very good breakfast!! Biscuits and jam were delicious!
Great food and service ! The specials are always creative. Everyone is very friendly and attentive to the customers. Custard for dessert is the best !!
Great family-friendly neighborhood restaurant. Loved everything about the experience. Will definitely return!
Nice atmospheres. The deserts are great! Firs were good too
Good service. Pizza was okay. Crust wasn't good.
We live nearby but had never tried FDB until neighbors recommended it. There are often coupons in the weekly circular, so we grabbed one and headed over. What a find! Who knew this cozy bistro was tucked inside a take-out frozen custard bar? With a full renovation and menu that was launched about 18 months ago, FDB offers a friendly, tasty neighborhood option that is easy on the wallet and nice enough for Saturday night dates. They also offer a fantastic brunch menu, so we will be sure to go back.
There was a solid selection of beers and wines to choose from. My husband had a beer, and I had a merlot. Both were delicious with our meal. The two of us split the She-Crab soup, Beet and Goat Cheese salad, and the Short Ribs and Gnocchi. Portions are large and full of flavor and ingredients. Plenty of crab in the soup, as well as croutons and creme fraiche. The salad featured beets, candied walnuts, dried cranberries, avocado, cherry tomatoes, goat cheese and lettuce. The short ribs were served with braised onions, mushrooms and gravy. Everything was very filling and satisfying. We even had to bring home a doggy bag. We saved a bit of room to try the frozen custard, one scoop each of vanilla and chocolate. Service was attentive and helpful. Highly recommended!
We had the French Dip sandwich. It was tasty and the meat was very tender. Also had the Hawaiian Pizza which was good. We had a vanilla malt shake which was excellent. The service was great. The waiter knew the menu and was able to answer any question very quickly. Overall a nice dinner at FDB. We will come back again.
Great food for a great price. Eggplant parmesan is excellent - freshly made. Can't beat the frozen custart desserts. Caprese, foccacia bread all excellent.
Great appetizers and desserts--very lackluster salads (didn't taste very fresh.) strange location in a strip mall and no atmosphere--but very kind and good wait staff!
Went here for lady's night. 5 of us split a bottle of wine (next time we'll go on Tuesday for half price bottle night). Good food. Appropriately sized portions.
Service was outstanding. Manager called me after I made my reservation and verified the booking, asked about high chair needs (none) and described special desserts. I used the call as an opportunity to request a special dessert for my girlfriend's birthday, and they obliged. (Great canolli!!)
Can't wait to return. Good food, great prices.
We went there for the first time last night. Boy, was I impressed with the food! Nothing fancy, but solidly executed with fresh ingredients. First, the foccacia bread - freshly baked, soft-ish with a saucer of olive oil/balsamic for dipping. We had a bottle of wine- Malbec $25 - not bad! Seafood crab soup - really good - there was even noticeable amounts of crab in it. The caprese salad was excellent - big enough for 2, fresh mozzarella, very nice dressing consisting of olive oil, balsamic glaze, and tasty shredded basil. I had the eggplant parmesan entree. I'm always nervous about ordering eggplant because many places cook it days in advance and then you are eating old eggplant. Not here - freshly made and plenty of it. My husband had spaghetti and meatballs that he liked, but he liked my dish better. The tomato sauce in both was good. For dessert, I had to try the famed frozen custard - quite good! Prices here are wallet-friendly. Service was friendly and excellent. The furnishings are very casual - so maybe not a first date kind of place. Who cares - good food beats fancy digs every time. This will be part of our regular rotation now.
Eat here - you'll be so happy you did!
Pizza is outstanding, followed by custard. Always outstanding, no matter what I ordered.
It's in the corner of a cluster of buildings. Find it. Go here often! The food was impeccable and served with such kindness from Danielle. This could be my new go to when in Falls Church! You'll be amazed at the variety, craftsmanship, and to top it off you can order frozen custard!!!
Give it a try. From the outside it looked like it would be a fast food place but it's not at all. The lunch menu looked really good. The dinner menu had something for everyone. The pork chop dish must have been the most popular as we saw it being served at every table but our own! The staff was courteous and made sure everyone was pleased with their meal. Side bar - the management went as far as to give me their paint color as I'm in the process of remodeling and their paint choice turned out to be just want I had been looking for.
Went on a Saturday night to celebrate my parent's anniversary. The waiter was nice but a bit overwhelmed by our party of 10 people. There were several mistakes with our food once it arrived (no bacon on the salad, shrimp instead of oysters), but there were quickly remedied. The food was hit and miss--the shrimp po boys and salads were great but the lamb burger and fried oysters were underseasoned. I had to remind the staff that we were celebrating their anniversary, and they provided a complimentary brownie sundae (which they loved). We also had a few different milkshakes, which were delicious. It's a neighborhood restaurant that's would be great for kids, but I wouldn't recommend going with a large group.
Food was great and so was the soundtrack. Service started off great and then we fell off our waiter's radar.
Love it! Was there multiple times in the past week. So many unique and delicious menu items to choose from.
