While still in Sicily, Gaetano served as Chef at the oppulent Villa Paino, where he was accorded the honor of preparing state dinners for the Presidents of Italy, Francesco Cossiga, and Oscar Luigi Scalfaro. After leaving Sicily, Gaetano worked in such culinary capitals as London, Paris and Milan.
Chef Gaetano is a recent recipient of "Ospitalita Italiana" from the Italian Gov. This award signifies Gaetano's as an authentic Italian restaurant, 1 of 600 in the entire world! You will only find fresh, natural and homemade dishes at Gaetano's.

Each of us had a different Paste. One was more amazing than the other!! Cant wait to go back and order the parmesan wheel soaghetti. So fun to watch them prepare.
This was our second time at Gaetano’s; the first was a couple of years ago on an earlier trip to Chicago. All four of us are “foodies,” and It’s hard to describe just how good this gem of a restaurant is! The food was spectacular; our waiter was knowledgeable and entertaining without being overbearing; and the ambiance is right out of Tuscany. The pasta (gnocchi) was the best ever. The steak, veal chop, and scallops were cooked to perfection. The wine and dessert, both recommended by our waiter were perfect compliments to the meal. We’d eat here every week if we lived in Chicago. We can’t recommend it more highly!

It's hard to find an Italian restaurant that isn't like all the rest, but this is it. Dinner with 6 friends was excellent from the bread to the appetizers - crab cake was delish - to wonderful seafood pasta to lemoncello - all so good. And our waiter Frank was great - attentive, efficient and friendly. I would recommend this place to anyone.
Food this time was just delicious! Service was good, a big party came in at the end of our dinner and was quite loud. Also a bit expensive, compared to other local restaurants.

This place went above my expectation when it came to the quality and taste of the food. Our server steered us in the right direction. My husband and I shared some plates and it was the perfect amount of food to go around for the two of us. My favorite was the stuffed dates.
Great little neighborhood gem with a large selection of interesting house made pastas, very delicious salads. Our waiter was excellent, informative and provided great suggestions for what to order. My only complaint was it was a bit on the pricey side.
The food, service and atmosphere was wonderful. We ordered the Spring/Summer special which included fabulous fish, outstanding pasta , entrees that were delicious and lively desserts (thank goodness the desserts were scaled down to perfect portions).
Can’t wait to return!!!

We enjoyed the new tasting menu for the month of May. The Charcuterie was wonderful(especially like the olives). The pasta course(sausage and beef) was yummy and my wife and I fought over the crab stuffed trout (my wife normally doesn’t eat fish).
Can’t wait to return.

The Chicago area has a lot of great Italian restaurants and we have eaten at the best of them from downtown to Oakley and beyond and Gaetano’s food and service is always at the top. Dining there really makes me feel like I’m in Rome

Hand's down, Gaetano's is my favorite restaurant in all of the Chicago area. Gaetano is a very special kind of chef...he's friendly, approachable & passionate about his craft. He has created a restaurant masterpiece in my opinion. We've been going to his restaurant for years & have always loved our experience with his "Gaetappas" (a different chef's choice for each course) menu item. He brings many different courses (sized appropriately for the amount of people partaking in it at your table) that will amaze your senses, both visually & through your taste buds. Two years ago, my husband and I decided to go a plant based diet & alas...at many restaurants we are limited to a roasted vegetable pasta or salad. Typically it's not very imaginative. We recently heard that Gaetano was really into the whole plant based thing so last Wednesday we decided to go & see what he was up to. Wow! It was the most amazing dining experience I have had in quite some time. We had course after course that was all meat & dairy free without any hesitation from Gaetano or his staff. We even had a cheese course! Gaetano has started making his own plant based cheese & it was phenomenal! We were blown away! We had course after course of bright, fresh, savory, tasty food that we have been searching for in restaurants. If you are vegan, plant based, vegetarian, gluten free, have allergies, whatever...Gaetano will cook for you and you will feel as though you have no dietary restrictions at all. If you eat meat, dairy, etc. you will be overwhelmed with the options and experience you will have. This is the kind of restaurant that deserves praise & honorable mention for the attention to detail, excellent service & the finest dining experience in a comfortable setting. We cannot wait to go back. Thank you Gaetano (& Dave our favorite waiter!) for years of all your culinary creativity & delights. P.S. When you go, be sure to use the bathroom to check out the sink's water faucet. It's unique!
I've been wanting to try Gaetano's since noticing that they had began offering vegan options. We were two vegans and two omnis--the vegan cheese was absolutely outstanding Our table's meat eaters loved their food. Gaetano personally pointed out what dishes could be prepared vegan--my husband's veganized meal was amazing. I am on a light food plan and Gaetano was very attentive to what I was asking for. Pasta was wonderfully al dente and marinara is delicious. Unfortunately, the steamed vegetables (the bulk of my meal) were totally mushy and overcooked (fell apart on trying with fork--next time I will ask that they are lightly steamed). But I did appreciate the effort. Tables might be a little understaffed--took us a long time to get out (over 30 mins for check).
This was our first visit to Gaetano’s and we can’t wait to go back. As an Italian, I’m extra picky when it comes to Italian food. We had the calamari which was unlike any other. We also had the crab cake app and all of us had the tagliatelle with sweet lobster and shrimp. All were memorable! The tiramisu was creamy and the best I’ve ever had. Their limoncello was the perfect end to our meal. Our Italian server took excellent care of us too and he made our experience fun!
Gaetano’s is a must visit Italian dining experience over-and-over again! Ciao!

Without a doubt, our favorite place to go. Not only is the food amazing, but the atmosphere and staff transport you to the wonders of Italy. Always a treat.
I had special requested a good table when I made the reservation on OpenTable, and we were seated in the back room, which I didn't even know existed. It was quieter than the main dining room. We had the chef's tasting, and it was amazing. The wait staff was very attentive and knowlegeable about the wine pairings and the food. When you do the chef tasting, they ask you about any allergies, but also likes/dislikes. My friend and I both are not huge fishy-tasting fish eaters, so that was accommodated in the fish course. We had really delicious scallops and some mussels, both were melt in your mouth tasty. The sauces, the unexpected flavor combinations - it's all really on point and really tasty! I think the last course (braised beef) was the best thing I've ever eaten in my life. The only tiny bump in the whole night was the people at the tables next to us were weird - one couple having what sounded like a divorce conversation, ending in her crying, the other mom/son table that sounded like they really didn't know what kind of restaurant they had walked into, there were so many questions/demands/special requests being made I felt like our table was an island of sanity in the middle. Of course there is nothing the restaurant could've done. The wait staff handled both situations expertly. I can't say enough good things about this restaurant - AND I learned Chef Gaetano also donates his time/talents to local fundraisers, which makes him a hero in my eyes. How amazing! Now if I could just get a better paying job to be able to eat there more often!!

We went to celebrate Gaetano’s 11th anniversary at this location. There was a special menu is at a price of only $45/person – truly a great value with 7 apps, 1 shared pasta, an entrée, and of course dessert.
Now the words become difficult. I know the English language but not the words to describe this great meal. Each component on its own would be worth my praise. Together they complimented each other. The pasta dishes were cooked to perfection (oops I guess I do know some words to describe the meal).
So worth going here as you will not be disappointed.
Most expensive Italian restaurant I've ever been to - higher prices than New York! Still, food was very good. Just seems a little pricey for Forest Park.
My husband and I celebrated his birthday at Gaetano's. Our waiter suggested the special tasting menu which was only available through the end of the month. It included a number of different appetizers, a pasta dish and a main dish and 2 small desserts. Every item was extremely delicious, one of the top meals we have ever enjoyed. It was our first time there, but it will not be our last, despite the fact that we do not live close by. Highly recommend.
My wife and I were celebrating a couple of items in our lives. We had been to Gaetano's (Forest Park) on a few other occasions... every time a wonderful experience. We are never able to select from the menu, so we opt for the "tasting" menu. And it could not be more wonderful... the food, and the service are without equal in the immediate area. Definitely a "go-to" restaurant for anyone wanting an exceptional experience... and will be going back.
A great little restaurant with AMAZING food! The scallops were the BEST! The service was spot on...attentive but not hovering. Special dietary restrictions were accommodated easily and with a smile!

Gaetano’s is my favorite restaurant for date nights with my boyfriend. The service is truly amazing and the food is impeccable. They make you feel like family and you never want the meal to end. We have gone to Gaetano’s many times and will be back time after time again!

Gaetano is so talented, I'm always so happy after a meal there. I had the branzino with am eggplant caponata, and my husband had a short rib with saffron risotto. Both had a beautiful presentation and were cooked perfectly.
Slow service. Food was average. Probably won’t return
