Our setting is unmatched and the best casual, neighborhood dining in the West End. The bar is ornately decorated with massive mirrors, large columns and a multitude of glowing candles. These, along with the open kitchen where flames leap from the grill, create a warmth and intimacy in a casual atmosphere.
The first is located at 1110 New Hampshire Ave. NW less than one block from the restaurant. The Garage is open Monday through Wednesday until 10 pm and Thursday through Saturday until 12 Midnight. Sunday the garage closes at 8 pm. If the garage is full or if you're dining with us on Sunday there is another PMI garage at 2300 M St. NW. This is two blocks away from the restaurant and is open 7 days a week until 12 midnight.
Blue/Orange Line -Foggy Bottom/GWU. Go left toward Washington Circle. Walk across Washington Circle to New Hampshire Ave. Walk 2 blocks on New Hampshire to the corner of New Hampshire & M St.
Smoky and loud, the delicate taste of the soft shell crab lost under a half inch coating of gooey batter. Unpleasant experience and would never go back.
Great Food and a Great evening out. Really enjoyed grillfish!
Excellent, service food and price! Searched google for new restaurants and this popped up and we had no regrets
We’ve been to Grillfish on a previous trip to D.C. and it was great. This time, the service was just average and the food didn’t wow us. For the money, we expected something better.
Hadn’t been to Grillfrish in several years. Was very pleased the experience was delightful.
Our appetizer arrived quickly. The special cocktail of the day - Tamarind Ginger Margarita - was very tasty. And our entrees were generous and well-prepared. The server was helpful and friendly, available for any needs but unobtrusive. A lovely evening!
Love this place when in DC
Enjoyed our meal at Grillfish. Food was outstanding. Service was okay. Ambiance/noise-level was a little loud for my taste, even though the dining room was only 3/4 full.
Service was slow and place was not busy.
I was a bit disappointed after seeing the high open table review for this restaurant. The fish was fresh and the food overall decent, but the service and ambiance was a bit off. It took almost 10 minutes of us just sitting at our table for us to get water and order drinks, and drinks took about 10 minutes to arrive at the table. After the initial delay, our server made an effort to be attentive and our meals arrived quickly. It's worth noting the limited 'sauces' offered for the grilled fish menu. All three options were catering to individuals that like heavy sauce on their fish. It would be great if they could offer a spiced grilled fish or simple fish with a lemon sauce for those that don't want a heavy sauce, particularly in hot weather. Finally, the setting is a bit bizarre since the neon sign and outside give the appearance of a modern restaurant but the inside is filled with faux greco-roman columns and decor. Really strange since some of their fish dishes are clearly asian-inspired (coconut-curry sauce, ginger calamari), rather than light and simple fish dishes found in both Greece and Italy. We came here after winning a gift certificate in a raffle, without another I can't imagine returning given the other restaurants we could choose in DC.
I was unimpressed with our table and how uncomfortable and small it was for 2 although I made a reservation. I noticed other tables of 2 with larger tables while we squeezed into one. The staff didn't seem to like that we'd turned the table to sit us both in the booth but we have a right to be comfortable also. I feel like the service was sub par. The wine list was not presented and the special menu for the night was not explained. We definitely would have bought alcohol had we known more of their cocktail list so all I had was lemonade & water. Overall the food was fantastic from beginning to end but I truly wish I'd had better service.
Was in Washington for the weekend. Had the most delicious dinner. Our table was ready when we got there. Our server was wonderful! Will definitely recommend to our friends!
Eclectic decor, you don't feel you need to be a DC "suit" to eat here and get the freshest seafood. Very reasonable wine list with knowledgeable wait staff. Felt like we were treated like family
I ordered the scallops, which were market priced at 35 dollars . I expected the tastiest scallops as i assumed i was paying for fresh scallops. They came in a delicious lime buttee sauce. However the scallops were slightly overcooked and no taste beyond the sauce. Service was okay.
Excellent food and service. Am from out-of-town but would return again if we visit DC again. Could not have gone better.
Excellent fresh fish at a great value. Many excellent choices available on the menu! I would highly recommend this restaurant!
Overall, Grillfish D.C. was very good. The food was fresh, well presented and it had a varied menu. Enjoyed it very much and would probably go back again the next time in D.C.
This was my second visit to Grillfish and it was exceptional again. We were a few minutes early that didn’t phase them at all. The food was excellent, as was the wine. We shared the Buffalo shrimp to start which was really good and definitely a highlight. The mixed seafood pasta I had for main course was as good as ever. Definitely a place to visit in DC. Possibly wouldn’t bring my kids though as my kids aren’t the most adventurous of eaters!
Always one of my favorites while visiting family in DC.
I loved the food and service have eaten there many times, but I won’t be back, because of their aggressive campaign to get their customers to vote no on Ballot Initiative 77 to provide a minimum wage for tipped workers. It inappropriate to force this view on their customers, when there isn’t the opportunity for education on the other side. A debate can be had, but this isn’t the way to do it.
Excellent place to indulge your fish and sea food passion. Nothing fancy, but everything is well prepared and delicious. Prices are reasonable and service was excellent.
Everything was great regarding service and food! Drinks were not anything special and I would not recommend the drink with pineapple/habanero. The habanero sunk to the bottom and left little to no flavor besides the watered down pineapple. With mezcal I expect a focus on the Smokey and it did not complement well. Mixed grill for two was a great deal! We left full and enjoyed each fish.
Grillfish was wonderful. Food was great — fish was fresh. And staff were genuine and accommodating. No pretentiousness here! Thank you, in particular, to Alfredo.
It was a good meal. Oysters from pei were take good.
Fish was a bit bland, service a bit slow, but overall nice place. Would return again but order diff items.
I've been coming here for many years, and have never been disappointed!
Broccoli I was cold and bok choy soggy
Grillfish is a reliable seafood establishment. It is consistently good at grilling fish, offering a nice assortment of local fish prepared very well.
Food was ok but a restaurant specializing in seafood should certainly know better than to overcook tuna. Place was far too noisy to easily carry on a conversation. Will probably look elsewhere to find good seafood in D.C.
The Food & Service was excellent. Some of the portion sizes were on the smaller side, but I still left satisfied.
We loved everything about our meal! The ambience is cozy, but lively enough that it was upbeat. The service was excellent, unrushed, and they gave us complementary dessert for our birthday/graduation celebration. All 7 of us loved the appetizers and our meals. The calamari and scallop appetizers were especially delicious! We will definitely come back!
One of the best birthday dinners ever! Thank you for making us feel welcome and making my day special.
Grace is an outstanding waitress.
We ate here twice on a recent weekend visit to DC. The first time I had a piece of red fish (similar to snapper), which was just perfectly cooked--exquisite. The second visit we shared the mixed grill, which was not quite as perfect but still quite good. Entrees are mostly fresh fish, cooked simply, with dipping sauces and a side (I had asparagus.) Easy place to eat gluten free, if you like fish. Service very good. On our second visit, we were seated outside when a giant typhoon-like thunderstorm started; we moved inside and I nursed my last drops of wine for a good while, hoping the rain would slow, and they were very gracious about it although they were busy. Wish we had a fish place like this near us.
I typically love Grillfish, but I have come to realize that they may not be a good option on holidays/special weekends. When I have dined during the week, the food was amazing, so I was excited to bring my family for Mother's Day. Let me first say the service was spectacular and I think that this was an off day for them. I have been to grillfish many times and this was my first negative experience. The food quality was just not what I wanted it to be. Again, the service was spectacular and I would go again, but never on a weekend.
Excellent food and service. Great food for an excellent price! Will definitely dine here again.
The setting is a bit dingy with a rather dark downbeat mural taking up an enormous wall but fish and seafood meals are excellent.
Was ok. Fantastic tamarind margaritas
From the moment we walked in the staff was on point. Greeted us like family. Excellent wine, dinner and dessert were delicious. Recommend the chocolate sundae cake and the lobster pasta dish. Scallops were very good too. Thanks for a wonderful evening!
