Il Baretto Wine Bar and Restaurant
If you're looking for a super Italian cuisine and would like to avoid both chain restaurants and designer price tags, Il Baretto in Blandford Street is an excellent choice.
Located between Marylebone High Street and Baker Street, Il Baretto has a smart wine bar located on the ground floor and a cavernous basement dining room that is a stylish restaurant for group parties and celebrations.
Popular with a local crowd, as well as with tourists and shoppers from Bond Street, this restaurant serves up authentic Italian recipes and we love the spaghetti con astice with lobster, sweet chilli and garlic sauce, and the Maccheroni with black truffle. Pizzas and dishes from the robata grill are winners too.

Very mediocre. River Cafe price, zizzi food. Would have been better off at Zizzi. Pretentious overpriced Marylebone joint with not much to enjoy.
Great food, great wine, great service. Always a great experience. Best beef carpaccio and the truffle macarroni WOW... getting hungry just thinking about it.
I've eaten at Il Baretto several times and never had anything less than great food and a lovely time. The Lasagna is excellent!
Music was appalling. Value of food was poor. Wine was very expensive
We had expected the restaurant to server proper Italian foods, but we were really disappointed. We ordered some salad, antipasti, pasta and pizza. Apparently the food was pre cooked and probably only heated before serving. Taste was not awful, but definitely not worth paying GBP20 per plate. It's also disappointing that big TV screen and dance music didn't match the atmosphere of the restaurant in Marylebone.
At first the music was so loud it was unnerving. It was lowered without a request thankfully. The pasta (cacio e pepe and chingale ragu ) was outstanding; perfect al dente!!!!
Amazing seasonal white truffle menu! We loved how dishes we expected to be heavy ended up being light and impeccably well balanced. Looking forward to going again soon!
Took my girlfriend here for dinner, the ambiance was amazing, the wine list was extensive and good; food was incredible
Had sea bass was bad I think it was off
Food was good being near the toilets not so good just a
The best ossobuco I've had in a very long time. The rest of our party also had excellent food. The staff were excellent. My only issue was the price, a bit expensive, not so expensive I would not return, just a few pounds more per plate that it warranted.
Outstanding - love it
Arrived on time. Table not ready. Was offered a seat behind the check in desk, where you might keep your luggage or pets in a normal restaurant. Politely declined. Service very brusque but that’s par for the course. The food here is always excellent and aside from the general feeling you’re being tolerated is a great lunch choice. Wine list is brilliant but expensive even by London standards as they seem to rejoice in super sized markups for the especially good Tuscans.
We werenr given a table, we sat at the bar :(
It was incredibly noisy, a little too dark, service was impersonal and very slow (it took almost 30 minutes for us to order) the food was pretty average but enormously overpriced. Starter with truffle did not even smell of truffle. Sea bass in salt crust was overcooked. Never again.
Friendly welcome and super service and food.
Would revisit any time.

Overbooking tables & greedy. Our table was not ready for over 1/2 hour. Attendant offered a complimentary glass of wine whole we waited. Both glasses were charged on our bill & then they offered to pay for only 1 of them. Disgraceful service. We will never return.
A good place but some of the dishes, notably the veal milanese, were seriously over-priced. If you choose sensibly priced dishes then this is a place worth visiting.
As a party of 4, we arrived on time for our 8pm reservation. We were told the table wasn’t ready but it should be no more than 15/20mins ....we were asked to take a seat at the bar - but there are no seats at the bar, and by standing in front of the bar we were causing a problem to the waiting staff who were ordering/collecting drinks for table service. We stood at the bar but were unable to attract anyone’s attention to order a drink. Eventually the table was declared ready and we proceeded downstairs. The service throughout the meal can only be described as chaotic - we had wine chilling in an ice bucket which wasn’t adjacent to the table, and it was nigh impossible to get our glasses topped up. The quality and temperature of the food was very good but it still wouldn’t entice me back....the staff were disorganised, grumpy and on occasion simply rude. Lots of management overseeing the chaos but without any positive intervention.
I didn’t check my bill. Stood of me. I think it might have been wrong. How can I check it now
During an important client lunch a piece of white chewing gum that was stuck to the bottom of one of your tables stuck to the knee of my black trouser leg. Gross.
Table was near kitchen door. Very noosy as a result and unpleasant light. Otherwise great food and service.
Best Italian in london! Perfectly cooked pasta, pizza is heavenly and the tiramisu is to die for!
The food is really good but expensive. We made the most of their special three course menu for £30 and ate like kings and queens. A glass of prosecco on arrival was a real surprise but it was most welcome. The veggie option was a marguerita pizza. I think they could have done better. Maybe the melanzana from the regular menu. For our Vegan friend, this offer did not work. She had the soup and was most satisfied.
The staff were all gorgeous! Thank you!
A shame..... was our second time here after that a friend of mine recommend Il Baretto.
The food is very good and fresh, unfortunately the last day we didn’t feel welcome at all, even more we feel like if we was a disturb for them... the bill come wrong and no apologies, basically the body language of the staff tells me that they even didn’t like the fact that we mention this fact, was overcharged for £30, was a very Italian way about “ I don’t care” , we was offered a bread with the starters and a shot of Grappa that come for £20 .... they should advise or bring the list, when we mention it the answer of the waiter was “ what do you want that’s I’m doing” .... wow... it’s a shame because the food is good but I don’t gonna go to a place that I feel not welcome and they try to overcharge or get extra money in my bill with no apology.
We've been going to Il Baretto off and on for the past 10 years. The food is usually quite good but the service element has suffered in the past. Now the service has picked up somewhat but we had a disappointing meal there at the weekend. The wild boar ragout was more olives than wild boar in a thin and lackluster sauce. The main dining room is a noisy place filled with conversation (not a prolem) and mid way through our dinner they added thumping club music to the mix, making conversation impossible. Won't be trying it again.
Great atmosphere. Ate downstairs, which has a relaxed feel. We added an extra person part way through meal, and were immediately moved to a larger table. Service was particularly good and not rushed. Excellent wine list with good choice of single glasses and carafe of high end wines. Everyone in our party enjoyed the food, the tiramisu being a particular favourite. Would highly recommend.
The lady serving us was rude on at least three occasions during the meal. When I confronted her about her attitude and asked that she be more polite, she said she would apologise if she had done anything wrong, but she hadn’t! The food here doesn’t make up for the terrible service, I won’t be going back.
The place is so noisy , you can’t hear yourself speak . I had a lasagne that was incredibly stodgy and had hardly any meat in it . Everything is vastly overpriced . For two bad starters and the cheapest house wine , it was £75 .
The black truffle burrata is a must!
Good service and v attentive. Food was delicious and we were well taken care of. They sorted a high chair for my little girl and helped with buggy. Quite loud and a 2 course lunch for 2 cost us £90 so not cheap
Great choice of classics- pasta, pizza, veal and fish. Plus some tasty contemporary additions. Unfortunately we were sat next to a table of loud ‘blokes’. Once they’d left we had a much better time!
Absolutely amazing pick and so nice compared to some more glitzy options in the area
Very unhappy will never dine there again nor will I recommend this establishment to any of my friends or colleagues. I have dined everywhere from Michelin star to roadside cafes and everything in between...what bewilders me is what is the point in booking a table if when you arrive at the restaurant your table is not ready...and to add insult to injury having waited 15 mins for your table you are then seated at a table which you think is your table but it turns out it isn’t and you are moved again after a further 15 mins..table was booked for 9:45 and we eventually sat at our correct table at 10:15..now if that isn’t bad then check this out...we are then told the kitchen closes at 10:15 so we should quickly order our food..absolutely ridiculous ..shame on you Baretto ..then you have the audacity to put items on my bill that I didn’t order..terrible excuse for a restaurant ..rather have a bowl of soggy cornflakes than eat here again...please all who read this do yourself a favour and dine somewhere else ..save your self some money and dine somewhere that appreciates your hard earned Money and custom..bye bye Baretto we will never be back !
We have eaten in this restaurant many times before on this occasion we found the food very bland the waitress knocked over our bottle of red wine which we felt was done because of the stress levels of rushing - we were told at least three times how we only had a two hour slot but when we left the restaurant it was half empty - was very expensive for the quality of food served will not be rushing back! Very disappointing!
I had a 15% discount through the Baker Street Quarter. The staff seemed unaware of this. Fortunately I had the offer on my mobile which they honoured. I had the crab and linguini as did my friend. My friend's looked great and had crab, mine unfortunately may have been the last portion, it looked a mess and I could not taste any crab.
I turned up at the restaurant on time, only to be told by the hostess that we can not have our table. We must wait 20 mins at least, as there is a party in the main restaurant. I asked the hostess why she hadn’t called, to which she said I booked on open table and she didn’t have a contact number.
The hostess offered us a table outside, to which my friend and I said ok, as long as you move us inside once the party leaves. We were never moved inside, until the outdoor license finishes at 9pm, then the hostess and waiter came eagerly to move us inside.
We ordered our meal and sat outside. No waiters came to check on us at all. The zucchini fritti was over salted, to which we complained and nothing was done.
We were moved inside for dessert, but again, the manger is taking payment form the table next to us, and completely ignored us I had to call him over so we could order desert.
Such a shame as the food was good, but diabolical service. Not what you expect at all
This has been a really good find, been here several times now, never disappointed. Very good menu with plenty of choices, great service, good fish and sea food, along with all the traditional dishes you would expect from a classic Italian but with some surprises. Ceviche sea bass is really nice. Plenty of Italian customers which is always a good sign.
Amazing as always, best truffle pizza in london and great atmosphere
