Delicious fresh meal. My husband and I both had the “fixed” 3 course menu prior to a show at the Kennedy center. The fish was perfectly cooked and the cook even came out to check on us!
The wait staff was especially very professional, friendly and since I was eating alone, made me feel very welcome
We started with the fried brussel sprouts w/ goat cheese...very good. My husband got the duck and I had the sole w/ crab. We both enjoyed those very much. The sole was so buttery....so good. The chocolate molten was average. I thought the service was a little slow considering we were at the table by 5:20pm...I think it was an hour before our actual meal was served. Other than that, I would definitely go back again.
Excellent ribeye with maple bacon, so delicious! Soft shell crab was very tasty. Also lobster blt salad was unique and quite good! Surprised this place was so quiet. Good service too! Highly recommend!!
We go here every month or so. Always a great experience. Excellent food, beautifully presented in quiet atmosphere. Inside hotel so no sign or this would be packed. Better food and value than most Georgetown/West End restaurants.
When we walked in no one was there! We thought this isn’t a good sign! But from the waiter to the menu to the comfortable seating we were game to try it out! First came 2types of fresh baked breads in a basket, delicious cocktails and wine! Then the crab bisque AMAZING! Then fois gras and crab cake all were exceptionally interesting and delicious!
Then the 3 of us had a crab salad entree, lamb and a Sea Bass entree’s all with incredible flavor and perfectly cooked sides. We really couldn’t pass up dessert at that point and it did not disappoint. With all the restaurants around DC and Georgetown we could not believe this hidden gem in the Melrose hotel! A MUST TRY!
I gave a two star review just because our server was very nice. I must say they need to staff that large space with more than 1 person doing their job. I had to walk around the entire lobby to find a person to check me in a seat me. The table was not completely set and we sat next to a dirty table for half our meal. The food is not worth it.
Appetizers were delicious. Water filled in five of six glasses. Had to ask twice for last glass to be filled. Brussel sprouts made perfectly. After they were done though the waiter thought to ask us for dinner order. Filet and Salads nicely prepared and sized. Two of us had the scallops. They were definitely frozen then thawed twice as they were ammonia smelling. Check presented with 20% service charge and tax on top. Never been to a good restaurant that charges tip on six people and no restaurant has ever taxed my tips. Good for government but not restaurant or diner.
First time at Gardenea and we were very impressed by the food & Service
Enjoyed being back. Our server, Derek, remembered us which made the evening feel even more special. Great service. Soft shelled crab and coriander dusted sea bass were outstanding! Thank you, Jardenea. We'll be back!
I discovered Jardenea a couple years ago right in my Foggy Bottom DC neighborhood!! Close, convienient and always good!! Their de-constructed Ceasar salad is my go to fav.
My husband and I enjoyed a delightful early dinner here on a Saturday night prior to a show at the Kennedy center. We were seated promptly and the staff was attentive without being cloying. The food was creative and delicious. I had the beet salad (very good) and wild salmon. The salmon was wonderful, especially given how poor the salmon catch has been these past two summers. Very flavorful and just the right size.
My husband had the crab cake as an appetizer and it was huge, all crab and accompanied by some wonderful, sweet fresh veggies and the Diver Scallops. For dessert we split the lava cake. It was very good maybe could have done with a tad more vanilla ice cream but otherwise delightful. We will definitely recommend to friends eating on this side of town and plan to return if we return to the Kennedy center.
The food was delicious especially the soft shell appetizer. The service was super. Went for restaurant week.
Met a friend for an early dinner. We weren't going to the theatre but the server was sure to ask when we sat down. Everything we ordered was fresh and well-prepared. My fish was perfect - just barely done! Portions were very generous.
The best part was the ambiance. It was dark but bright, COMFORTABLE and QUIET. I didn't need a light to read the menu. The seats are genuinely comfortable: well-cushioned leather chairs wide enough for real bodies. AND it was not very loud. It was early and the restaurant was probably only 1/3 full however I think it would not be overly loud even a maximum capacity. There is plenty of fabric, carpet and acoustically beneficial decor and tables are a respectful distance apart making it a rarity today where all the hot spots cram you into a super loud industrial space with little thought toward guest comfort.
Great place for pre-theater dinner. Service was superb. Recommend pre-theater deal if you’re not vegetarian. For vegetarians, it’s cheaper to do a la carte, and they have an entree option not on the menu. The brussel sprouts and lava cake were delicious!!!
Our pre-theatre meal was an excellent value and the first two courses were delicious. The chocolate lava dessert was overcooked and therefore not molten but it was still tasty. The place was very quiet but we were there between 5 and 7, in order to get to a 7:30 show at the Kennedy Center. I would definitely go back.
Perfect place to dine before catching a show at the Kennedy Center.
We arrived for a pre-theater dinner with a 5:30 reservation. The restaurant was not immediately noticeable and the Concierge was happy to direct us. There was no one else in the restaurant at the time. We had excellent service and a nice conversation with the Chef. I ordered the summer Mango Gazpacho and the Caesar Salad. The Mango Gazpacho was delicious and served in a bowl rather than cup. The Caesar Salad was artfully arranged with white anchovies (so much better than the oil soaked brown ones) and Brioche croutons.
My friend had the Maine Lobster BLT Salad. The salad was stacked with a generous portion of lobster as the base layered with bibb lettuce, melted tomatoes, haricot verts and avocado puree topped off with pancetta.
Both dishes were creatively presented.
We each left very satisfied with our choices.
Great place to have pre-theater meal if you have tickets at Kennedy Center. Walking distance to KC, but we Ubered. Food and service was very good. They have a 3 course pre theater menu for $44 which is a good value.
Fantastic place, a bit hidden away in the hotel, but nice ambiance, incredible food, and fantastic service. It was not at all busy on a Sunday evening. Overall a wonderful experience!
Went to Jardenea before going to the Kennedy Center. The pre-theatre dinner is a great deal. Appetizers and entrees were outstanding, but the desserts were nothing special. Service was first rate.
Great food, amazing steak, fast service, clean! I would recommend if you have a show at the Kennedy center.
We were grossly disappointed with our meals at Jardenea. My husband’s steak was over cooked, second time around it was not the freshest cut of steak. My meal - sole stuffed with lobster was salty, my daughter’s salad had a hair in it. The only saving grace was the staff, they were extremely apologetic and was eager to make us happy. At the end of the day, when dining out, it’s the food and Chef that carry the weight.
This restaurant is a gem! This restaurant was not known to my boyfriend who worked in DC for 40 years. He was astounded that he had not heard of it as it was so good. We both agreed it was the nicest meal we have had in DC in quotes some time. We will definitely be back.
We went pre-theater for Hamilton at the Kennedy Center and their prix fixe theater menu was phenomenal. She had crab bisque and smoked duck, I had crab cake and filet mignon, and with two desserts it was $44 each. The walk afterward to the Kennedy Center was quite short.
Outstanding service throughout the meal from Derek. He started off by checking on whether we had a show to catch (we did) and whether we had any allergies or food sensitivities. It's a relief to be asked up front rather than try to ask what's in every dish. The Maine Lobster BLT salad was my favorite -- so delicious, and also felt reasonably healthy. Very creative menu, including the cocktails.
I really appreciate the Pre-theater menu!
The food was excellent, the service was great, and the pre-theater menu was an excellent value. The server and chef were both conscientious of our timeline for making it to the Kennedy Center for a show. The restaurant was an easy ten-minute walk (for a fit 38-year-old) to the Kennedy Center, so we just left our car nearby and avoided the traffic crush getting to and from the event.
Visited twice in the past two weeks -- great food, wonderful service and setting at a reasonable price.
The food and service were great at Jardenea. We made a reservation before our show at the Kennedy Center and our waiter Joe was attentive and personable, making recommendations on the food and had a great personality. Will definitely be coming back!
Brunch was outstanding!! The steak Benedict was fantastic.
Great place, great food, quality service. I would have rated outstanding, but they don't have enough waiters so while the service is great given their challenges, the establishment would do well to have someone on call as they keep getting busier. It is one of my favorite places in the area.
Thank you Joe for your warm hospitality and wonderful recommendations. We had a fabulous time and enjoyed the creative dishes!
I was delighted with my goat cheese salad and scallops on sunflower seed ‘risotto’. The restaurant was surprisingly quiet but I understand they are busier when events are at the Kennedy center. I will return when I’m back in DC.
Spectacular service level - as they were very accommodating to ‘food issues’. Cuisine is very progressive - as they use traditional ingredients in interesting combinations (sunflower risotto with scallops). There are more ‘mainstream servings’ such as rack of lamb, beef tenderloin, and Hawaiian Sea Bass. This was on a trip to the area. But, definitely worth going back to.
Prompt, professional service in a quiet dining room. Food was excellent, especially the sautéed soft shell crab. Wines were diverse and reasonably priced.
Excellent all around. Food was delicious, nice presentation, and service was top of the line.
The problem is that service was very slow. After more than half an hour and a couple of requests, a waiter finally came to take our order.
We had dinner here before a concert at the Kennedy Center. We had wonderful service and our meals were delicious. We both especially enjoyed the crab cake appetizer.
My family enjoyed brunch at Jardenea. The atmosphere was nice but not quite what I expected. Food was EXCELLENT, service was subpar.
Delicious meal. Very accommodating. Attentive waiter. Comfortable seating.
Went for a celebratory meal with the family - one gluten intolerant diner, and one vegetarian diner. Good selections for GF, minimal selections for our light-eating veg - but she asked for a fresh fruit (not on the menu), and received a lovely bowl of fresh berries.
Get the Brussel Sprouts for the table to share - they were outstanding! Not inexpensive, but not unreasonably pricey.
