What Insiders Are Saying
Come to Kokkari Estiatorio in the Financial District to feel like a big shot. Maybe even throw on a suit and tie. It's a Greek temple of lamb.
The food is delicious and the service is outstanding!
Food was excellent, from appetizer to dessert. Very good service, waiter had good command of the menu and answered all questions. Look forward to dining there again!
It’s our go to spot. The Gigantes are to die for!$
Perfect for before theater dinner
Amazing as usual. Great service and amazing food and flavors ! Worth the price for a sit down lunch.
IT’s not a daily go to meal, but a special treat of wonderfully prepared food brought to you by knowledgeable servers in a charming environment. This will make you want to treat yourself, and others, more often!
We like going to Kokkari! However, last night we ordered the goat stew (one of the specials) and the charge was $45. It was way overpriced for a stew. The waiters should disclise the price of the specials without the customer having to ask.
Also the peach salad (another special) was not good at all. Of course we will return but may shy away from the specials in the future.
Absolutely wonderful- all of it. The food, the service, the wines. Highly recommend the octopus and goat stew if it’s available.
Kokkari is a must stop for anyone going to San Fransisco! I stop by every time I am in town!
We had a reservation for 8 but weren’t seated until 8:30... our serves Jeff was wonderful.
We revisited for my husband’s birthday after an absence of frequent dining over the years. Menu stays fresh with seasonal items and preparations, apricots in the feta apricot salad were the best we ever tasted. We had the perfect window seat for two in entrance room so it was much quieter than maybe other parts of the restaurant which was packed on Monday night. Delicious, consistently prepared food with numerous menu choices for all tastes. I believe it was an owner or general manager who also stopped by our table to ask about our dining. We like the relaxed, unpretentious atmosphere and interaction with servers. When we asked about the restroom upon leaving, a co hostess escorted us to the elevator and waited to show us the correct floor to press. That doesn’t happen in many places! We did check birthday on our Open Table reservation but it wasn’t acknowledged, we were fine but others may desire the event be mentioned in some way.
Delicious as usual. Octopus was fantastic as was the Ravioli. Too full for dessert. If only easier to book would go more often.
Kokkari is always good. It's a dressy place, lots of higher end business meals at lunch time, so you might want to look groomed for your visit. The meatball appetizer, if you eat meat, is wicked good. As is the octopus.
Our meal was a wonderful Father's Day experience. Every appetizer we had was perfectly balanced, from the stuffed kalamari to the lamb dolmas to the octopus to the special fried peppers. Our main courses are our two favorites: the whole fish and the lamb chops, and neither disappointed. I love coming here knowing the food is always superb, and the service is stellar. Our server took such great care of us!
I recommend this restaurant to everyone. The grilled octopus is in a class all its own. The feta stuffed calamari is an unusual, innovative and tasty way to grill the dish. Braised lamb shanks are melt in your mouth wonderful. The whole grilled branzini is just what I expected from the Greek's simple approach to grilling fish - delicious.
Really good but at the high end of our price point. Made for a great 62nd anniversary dinner.
Wonderful place, I adore the food. It is the same as Orexi and Evvia, and I love them all. The service is very pro, the food is exquisite. The noise level was a bit too loud in this location. As we were five people, seated in a semi-circle, the noise made it impossible to have one conversation across the table.
Absolutely the best Greek restaurant in the country. Amazing food and service. A must stop if you are in SFO
Very nice lunch with excellent, friendly service. Expensive. Somewhat noisy. I had the Petrale, which was very good. Did not like that the head was included on the plate.
Lovely special peach salad, grilled octopus, shrimp, chicken, berry pudding and donuts!!! Ah, and of course the Santorini white wine!
Exceptional food used to be the norm at Kokkari. Sadly not the case at this time.
as always, wonderful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Kokkari is an amazing dining experience.
The food is consistently wonderful.
The staff helpful and attentive.
In a beautiful surroundings.
Great wine selection.
The Kokkari salad with strawberries is my fave.
A cozy booth is great for a business meeting
Great food and a beautiful restaurant. Frank is the the best!!!!!! Thank you!!!
Thank you for taking such good care of our party of 4.
Friends from NYC that we wanted to have a long lunch with to catch up. They can be hard to please, but one friends Greek daughter in law who lives in the South Bay was thrilled that they were invited to Kokkari and suggested some things to try. Service was lovely and attentive, food was fantastic and they really made an effort to seat us in hallway. Complete success, we love Kokkari!
It was the very hot and we couldn’t get the table we wanted. But otherwise we always love Kokkari:-)
We were extremely impressed and loved the great authentic Greek food. This made our Wedding Engagement that much more special.
Very good food and everyone was extremely nice
Great service and food
Extraordinary in every respect. And our server, Jillian, was exceptional.
Terrific food, and warm, personable service. I’ll be back.
If you love good food and friendly services then go to Kokkari. We prefer the Greek Grandma's taverna atmosphere in the back room; if you're out to impress then the front room is perfect. Both have real, huge, wood fireplaces glowing and actually slow roasting rotisserie meats. The lamb chops are succulent masterpieces from a farmer who produces them to Kokkari's specifications; no one is offended when you knaw the bones because everyone does. Mystery--how do they get a whole fish crispy skinned on both sides??? Be sure to try at least two appetizers because they are all worth writing home about.
Love this place! Go back to it every time I visit SF. Only challenge is in getting a reservation. Lunch proved a great opportunity.
I dined with a friend at weekday lunch. Beautiful decor and great service. Food was good but not as great as many of the reviews imply, and expensive for what you get.
Food and service are always top notch! It’s our go to for a nice meal with great service that is not crazy $$$
My boyfriend and I dined at Kokkari at the recommendation of two friends. We had a wonderful experience. My boyfriend and I were early for our reservation and seated right away. Our waiter was incredibly attentive and made sure our wine glasses were never empty. I had the moussaka which was the best I have ever had and my boyfriend loved his lamb special. Would definitely come back next time I am in San Francisco!
Our entire dining experience was amazing. Service from start to finish was impeccable, and the food was truly something special! We can't wait to go back!
New date with girlfriend
Excellent service. Delicious food. Great atmosphere. Will definitely be going back again.
