The food was, as always, excellent. Though things would be much better if they bothered to bus the empty sidewalk tables. Then the homeless man who sat down at one to eat the remaining scraps of food, would not have done so. To the restaurant's credit, they asked him if he needed anything and brought him the glass of water he requested.
Despite the poor service, I did enjoy the food but if you area looking for a full-service restaurant, I would look elsewhere. Our waiter brought us two additional orders in error and argued with us about it. He did not clear any of our plates off of the crowded table, forcing us to bus our own table after dinner and put the dirty plates on an empty table near by. Take out may be your best option here.
Love the food there!!!
Dinner was amazing. The mussels were delicious. I had the Bronzino special over homemade fettuccine with tomatoes and capers. A generous portion. My husband had the Caesar salad & Salmon entree. My son had the mushroom & roasted peppers appetizer and the risotto shrimp scampi.
1. I really liked La Fontana until my last visit. It started with a mouse that entered our outdoor hut. I realize that being outdoors, this can't always be controlled. If that had been all, there wouldn't have been a major objection from me. We mentioned it to the staff, but no offer to move us to a different table. (It wasn't busy that night.) 2. The second issue was that I dropped the container after dinner with the food I was taking home and it opened on the floor. Again, I take responsibility for that but their staff saw it happen and didn't do anything to help me clean it up. They literally just stood around watching. No offer to see if I needed any help. 3. Lastly, I noticed that they automatically add 20% tip to your bill. If you add another 20% when you sign when paying with a credit card, they are making a huge tip. I've never been anywhere where 20% is added automatically for a party of two. I find this to be taking advantage of customers who don't read their bill carefully. I used to recommend this restaurant. Not now.
Lovely experience from start to finish. Caring staff, excellent food. Can’t wait to go back.
Our meal was delicious! Our waiter was charming and funny. We ate outside, the inside looked a little dated and it was a beautiful night. There were four of us and we all loved our meals!
All 4 of us said we would definitely go back!!
Great and fast service. Delicious food at reasonable prices.
Excellent service, amazing food. So glad I brought my New York guest to such an outstanding restaurant. I highly recommend it.
The restaurant was outdated and had missing wallpaper on. The wall . The first impression was the bread . It was so stale and old . Had to ask for a drink multiple times. Among other things. There were gnats flying around the table landing on the food . Order the bruschetta cause I was dying for some decent bread . Figures if they charged me $10 I would get the fresh bread. Boy was I wrong . Almost lost a tooth trying to eat it . Could barely manage to eat one piece and threw the rest away . Ordered the “special” they charged me 37 dollars for 3 small scallops and 5 “lobster ravioli” which were more cheese and barely any lobster if any at all . Food was mediocre and over priced and service was inattentive. Until the end when 3 staff members asked us if we were finished in a 10 min time period when we were the last people there . They also all managed to get changed and sit at the tables in the front and stare at us . While we are out desert that I ordered for my friends birthday . If they would have paid attention they’d know we also didn’t want to be there anymore but we needed a cork for our bottle of wine. If you want good Italian food head over to ristorante aroma . The food there is amazing and while not cheap you get the value and service you deserve . This place on the other hand was a waste to be honest .
The Gnocchi is wonderful! Service was prompt and friendly.
Excellent food. It was just so hot out that all of us were sweating ha! I wish it was a cooler night, but the food and service were perfect.
Our waiter, Redian was the best!!
We had the special of the day which was a white fish over fettuccine with capers, artichokes and tomatoes. It was excellent. We both ordered the special and would both recommend it. The service was a little off. Had to ask for ice three times.
I was staying in the area from out of town and chose this restaurant because of its proximity to my hotel and the availability for a solo diner reservation on open table which is rare. As soon as I got to the restaurant, the maitre’d and waiter were exceptional. Again, I’m sensitive to being a solo diner but they insured that I had a nice table and received the best in service. I had a branzino special and caprese salad. The preparations were simple and fresh and just delicious.
My one critique is that the restaurant is a “bring your own bottle“ operation when it comes to wine. I am not critiquing that model but that this was not indicated on open table whatsoever. I wish they would add a notation. It didn’t ruin my dinner not to have wine but I had just been at the corner market five minutes prior and could’ve easily picked something up.
Had a wonderful meal here. Classic Italian bread. Bruschette Alla Fontana was refreshing with plenty of flavor especially the roasted peppers in the center of the plate. The gnocchi with pomodoro sauce was delicious. The Risotto Pescatore in white wine sauce was perfect with meaty mussels and clams. The Villa Puccini pinot grigio we brought paired perfectly. The service was great and our waiter attentive and pleasant. We will definitely be returning when back in Philly. A++ for the Chef, owner and staff!
Awesome servers/hosts, delicious food. I would come here again.
This is our favorite neighborhood restaurant
Great food and reasonable prices - my favorite is the linguini pescatore and my wife's favorite is their signature Bronzino, a mild white fish.
In addition to regular dinners we have held 3-4 family gatherings there for 20-30 people
Exceptional. Huge portions, Caesar salad should be an entree, linguini with sausage was perfectly prepared.
Ervis did a great job!
This is an awesome restaurant! The food is excellent and the service is also. We sat outside in a pod which really helped since it started to rain. They do a great job and I would strongly recommend to anyone looking for great Italian food.
The food was excellent we had the Branzino with a side of gnocchi and both were delicious. We also had a veal dish and it also was tender and flavorful. My family and I will definitely return.
Went for restaurant week. All good was served very hot and waitress and staff worked hard to serve in the pouring rain!! Portions were okay. Overall great experience!
We went during Restaurant Week and were made to feel we were part of a conveyor belt. The food came out so fast that we really didn’t have anywhere the appropriate amount of time to enjoy each course.
The food was well prepared and this would have been an enjoyable experience if we weren’t so rushed.
I visited the restaurant based on a segment I was on FOX 29 with Kathy Orr my experience was NOTHING like what I saw on the show. Food Salmon portion size extremely small very over cooked a very disappointing experience
Great service and food. We ate outside with my parents and couldn't have had a better evening.
Went for restaurant week everything we had was excellent. The could have added another shrimp to the risotto it was the entree and it only had one shrimp. We will return anyway.
I've been here a few times. The food is decent and it is a BYOB. Service is always pretty decent too. I would not suggest going here for restaurant week they give very small portions of food compared to other restaurants participating. I ordered mussels and they only gave me 6, the pasta was like 2 noodles, 1 ravioli and 3 gnocchi and they only put 1 shrimp in the "shrimp" risotto.
The code and pollo piccata were great! Service was inexperienced, but the cannolis made up for it.
Visited during Center City restaurant week, $35 for for course meal. We found street parking at no additional cost. They offer both in/out door eatting. Outdoor option includes enclosed tent or just outside. It was two of us, we asked for outdoor tent. But apparently, out door tents are for 3 or more in a party. But, we saw 3 different couples and a couple of girlfriends be seated in enclosed tent!!!
Staff was masked. Service was was poor.... after much back and fourth, we asked for a manager, was told there was no manager on site!! In shock asked again, theres no one to speak too, no assistant manager (AM)! He says, Oh yeah, there's an AM... the waiter got the assistant manager, who served us the remainder of the evening.
this is a BYOB place, the salad was not fresh, completely welted, the stuffed eggplant was delicious (we were told if purchased separate/ in addition to meal it would be $28, the mussels in marinara sauce was delicious, the three pasta dish was alright, tomato penne was Spicy, i dont eat spice, so a warning would have been nice. We had the veal which was horrible, the gravy and texture was way wrong and there was only one shrimp. We had the shrimp risotto which was ok, it was extremely creamy and had only one shrimp. Desert portions are super small, we had chocolate cake and candy coded ice cream with chocolate chips, which were pretty good! They auto added a 20% gratuity.
We had a wonderful time! The meal was fantastic from beginning to end, and the staff were all incredibly friendly. We look forward to coming back!
We were placed in basically a heat tent. It was unbearable. They moved us with grace. The food was ok, my chicken was very thin and over cooked. The pasta sampler was delicious and the desert was yum. Overall, it was an ok experience that was definitely made better because I was with my friends.
Haven't been here in over five years and we couldn't have been more delighted! The food was exceptional and the service was efficient and friendly. We will return and bring friends! Thank you for a lovely evening in the city.
Food was delicious! Service was good. Nice outdoor seating.
It was terrible.
Excellent lunch eating out of the mainstream but only steps away from the hubbub where we enjoyed a very full delicious meal.
We went for restaurant week and everything was delicious. Thanks
Food was delicious it was cooked to order and hot, we really enjoyed our meal...great restaurant will definitely be back!!!!! 10 STARS!
The decor was a tad old. There was trash under the table and table tops were not cleaned promptly when guests left. Several utensils had food on them prior to use and the windows are dirty. The food itself was good. It wasn’t hot upon arrival, just warmish.
Great stop during restaurant week, gnocchi was incredible!
