Le Yaca began in 1964 in Courchevel, a tiny, country village in the French Alps. Daniele Bourderau & Gerard decided it would be fun to open a small restaurant. When friends learned of their plans, they told the hopeful restaurateurs they were crazy to think people would drive eight kilometers on a winding, icy road for dinner. Daniele and Gerard hesitated for three months and then decided, “yaca le faire,” a contraction of the French phrase “il n’y a qu’a le faire,” which basically means, “let’s do it.” They called the restaurant Le Yaca as a gag, but the name caught on with customers who were amused by the pun and contributed to the restaurant’s lore by inventing “yaca-isms” of their own: yaca y aller (let’s go). Daniele came to the United States and opened Le Yaca in Williamsburg. Daniel Abid bought Le Yaca in 2001. Daniel worked and trained in such prestigious places as “Le Pre Catelan” and “Lenotre” in Paris; “L’Amandier” and “Roger Verge," and to top it all off, “Alain Ducass

We went to Ember for our 25th anniversary after hearing and reading wonderful things. It did not disappoint. Our server Eddie was so kind, so accommodating from moment one. He immediately congratulated us on our anniversary. We instantly felt like it was about to be a great occasion. Eddie gave us recommendations from the menu for all courses. Honestly we were spoiled for choice with the Asian fusion menu. The food was prepared and presented with impeccable care and flavor. We loved everything! We started with the Miso Butter Corn and the Crispy Rice. For entrees, my husband had a steak, and I had one sushi roll and one temaki hand roll. After dinner, Eddie brought us each a glass of champagne with a blackberry, and even had the forethought to bring mine non-alcoholic (I had ordered the Empress Reign mocktail earlier), which was such a nice touch. We then had a custom dessert for our anniversary as well as the Japanese cheesecake. It was a perfect ending. As we were leaving we saw both the manager and the chef who both remembered and congratulated us on our anniversary. Just an incredible detail oriented experience that left us happy and well fed. We will be back, because there are so many options on the menu that we are excited to try!
