Love and Salt is a story that begins with Cafe Pierre, a restaurant birthed by Guy Gabriele in 1977 to bring a taste of France to Los Angeles’ South Bay. While Cafe Pierre was a beloved part of the community for nearly 37 years, in 2014, Guy and his daughter Sylvie Gabriele, now the owner of Love and Salt, closed the restaurant to bring new life to the iconic space.Love and Salt is a philosophy: that food needs only two ingredients to be great. It’s a sensibility that informs the feeling in the restaurant and the dishes on the menu — Italian-inspired with Southern California soul. An approachable wine list and classic cocktail program similarly reflect the vibrant SoCal setting of the restaurant, located just steps from the Manhattan Beach pier.

Inspired by both Cabo San Lucas’ beautiful coast and Mexico City’s vibrant cosmopolitan neighborhoods, Esperanza’s thoughtful design blurs the lines between art and function. Masterfully designed by internationally renowned Islandic architect Gulla Jónsdóttir, Esperanza’s interiors reflect an elevated coastal ambiance that exaggerates the grandeur of a beach town villa.Chef Ray Alvarez oversees a menu featuring fresh interpretations of Sonoran cuisine while Head Mixologists John Fox and Kevin Williams developed Esperanza’s bar program to not only include delicious and playful cocktails, but the two have also created the largest tequila list and mezcal collection in the South Bay.

After soaking in the TRB’s Santa Barbara mission architecture, you’ll enter and be greeted by a triple arched Brunswick mahogany bar. Large bowls of colorful citrus for making cocktails sit atop a twenty-foot long bar perfect for grabbing a glass of wine or a bite to eat. As you explore further towards the display kitchen, you enter our lounge, also referred to as the wine library. Knotted wood shelves display our wines, divided up by wine region. Windows surround the North side of the dining room, allowing our guests to gaze out onto the fountain in our courtyard. I describe the décor as thoughtful and collective, creating little vignettes for dining areas. We offer two separate outdoor dining experiences: our courtyard with full service and our front porch great for appetizers, drinks and lounging.

Our dinner last night was excellent, the service was very professional and, also, excellent, and I have always loved the patio ambience at Tin Roof. However, even the noise level in the patio was a little bit much due mostly to one table close to our table. I was dining with two out of four people who had never eaten at Tin Roof, and all four of us were more than pleased with our dinner choices. In fact, each of us had trouble deciding among many of the entrees, and our waiter provided so much information about the entrees which was very helpful. The short ribs, the lamb pasta, the shrimp pasta special, and my scallops were beyond delicious. It seems last night Tin Roof offered no weak dinner choices. My only regret is that Tin Roof is no longer open for lunch. I miss the salad, sandwich, soup combos. Thanks to everyone at Tin Roof last nigh for a superb dining experience; I love bringing people to Tin Roof Bistro to dine!

We had a great experience today. Although we were running late because of parking, we were still seated. The hostess was understanding. The ambiance was great as well as the food. I had the Enchilada Suaza with chicken. AMAZING!!!! Our waiter was very attentive and checked on us continuously. I will most definitely dine here again.
