My niece (visiting from out of town) and I had a great dinner at Old Ebbitt Grill on Thursday evening, Oct. 1. We both knew what we wanted as the main course (the crab cake, French fries and cole slaw), but our server Qili made recommendations for drinks, an appetizer and dessert. And they were all great -- especially the Bourbon-chocolate chip bread pudding, which was sublime. Just to add -- Qili herself made the meal so enjoyable. She was helpful, she kept a close eye on how we were progressing -- and she was funny and fun. Really made the meal an enjoyable occasion.

The Monocle was our favorite dinner during our vacation in Washington, DC. From the atmosphere to the service and food, everything was excellent. The restaurant has an elegant, classic atmosphere that truly feels like Washington, DC, especially being so close to the Capitol. Yuli was our waiter and was exceptional. He was informative, funny, charming, and helped us make some great choices for dinner. My wife had the Filet Mignon and I had the Pork Chop, and both were excellent. The drinks were also very good, and the service throughout the evening made the experience even more enjoyable. If you're looking for an elegant dining experience near the Capitol with excellent food, great service, and a true DC atmosphere, make a reservation at The Monocle. It was one of the highlights of our trip and a dinner we will definitely remember.
