L'Auberge Chez Francois
This is a wonderful and reliable lunch/brunch place for us on the weekends. Whether we come in suit and tie with parents visiting from out of town, or just coming off a hike along the Potomac, muddy with the dog in tow for outdoor seating, this exceptional restaurant. Great staff. Great foods. Great service. Kind and entertaining chef/owner (classes and special events are well worth it.)
Fabulous. Food, service, location. Went with friends who have been in DC for over 20 years - how could they not know this jewel??
Already planning a return for next month
Second, visit and service was impeccable. Food was fantastic and the sommelier was the best ever
A perfect lunch: wonderful food, lots of variety, excellent service, great ambience, and a great day to eat outside in the garden. This is one of our favorite special (or no special) occasion restaurants. The price is extremely reasonable for lunch.
Never fails to impress....food and service impeccable....
Several months ago after I had been to L'Auberge with some friends, I mentioned it to another friend. We found that we both love their calves liver and decided we should go there together. Being busy ladies, we scheduled our visit for this week at lunchtime. It was a beautiful day and we sat in their outside patio area. It was absolutely a breathtaking and serene environment. With a sun umbrella at every table we were very comfortable. We started with the gazpacho and and the tomato salad, of course followed by the calves liver. Everything was delicious and the service was absolutely impeccable. We will definitely return here for a meal again soon.
Everything was perfect - a nice table for our group and perfect service! Food was fabulous and plentiful!
We had a delightful evening. Our server was outstanding. The setting was lovely. We were celebrating our anniversary and they made it special for us. Delicious food. Attentive service. We'll be back!
Enjoyed celebrating my birthday with son and DIL. Hubby and I shared the chateaubriand, which is typically what we order on our occasional visits. This was the only reason I gave the food 4 stars instead of 5; the meat was cooked slightly more to medium rather than the medium rare as we ordered it. Certainly wasn't significant enough to comment on it to the waiter, as I feared they might suggest a replacement. Beautifully plated with a variety of fresh vegetables. Everything else was perfect from the champagne cocktails to start, the fresh house salad and garlic crouton, variety of appetizers, and such delicious desserts. My son loved his lamb chops, and DIL was thrilled with her shrimp and scallops. There was a nice selection of wines priced for mere mortals to enjoy. We ordered a bottle to share, but there's also a nice selection of wines by the glass. This has been and continues to be our favorite special occasion restaurant.
Love the consistency of always getting a very good meal.
Absolutely excellent. We've been coming here for years and have never had less than a fabulous meal with wonderful service. Nice mix of local Virginia ingredients with French cuisine. Seasonal specials. Extensive menu with many choices, expensive but a great value.
We returned to Chez François for Sunday lunch on a warm summer day to take advantage of their beautiful outdoor patio. Ambience is great. Reception cool but friendly. Waiter overly chummy and friendly. We are familiar with their menu and have eaten there as well in the previous location in DC. But times and cooking styles have changed, their menu hasn’t. Most items are swimming in butter or something similiar. Vegetables accompanying main courses are reheated in a skillet, not freshly steamed. Be it haricot vert or carrot and potato pieces, it’s all sautéed, even browned and reheated. Absolutely nothing in their cooking style has evolved. The food was so rich, we both suffered for hours afterward.
Another point: after approximately 2 hrs. The chef came out to greet 2 couples, obviously regulars and worthy of his attention. Every other table was ignored. Not nice. Everyone paid the same high amount, at least $150 for two. Also, at no time did there appear to be a maitre d’hote around. Maybe the elusive gentleman in a suit?
The setting is as lovely as always, but to us at least it’s not worth returning with miles of single lane curvy roads.
Celebrated anniversary during Sunday brunch. Service from Hugo was impeccable and quality of food as outstanding. Never have had a bad meal at this restaurant.
James made us feel like we were the only guest in the entire building. He was informative and personable. He was knowledgeable and showed that he was an expert at his skill.
I must also commend the management team for hiring an exceptional set of employees.
They are friendly and shows genuine care and hospitality. KUDOS to James and the Gang!
Fantastic overall as usual! Everything was spectacular and always the best place for a special celebration.
L’Auberge never fails to deliver. Food is well prepared and presented. Variety of choices is outstanding. Everyone is genuinely glad to see you.
This place is a hidden gym of European excellence. The food and ambiance were perfect for a wedding anniversary celebration. In true European fashion, this was the evening event, where you talk and drink and talk and have an appetizer and drink and talk and drink and have a salad and talk and drink and talk and eat something and talk and drink and talk have a dessert and drink and talk and drink then walk around the beautiful grounds...come prepared to enjoy the slowness of it all. It's worth every second.
Great food and outstanding service. Cant wait to go again soon!
Always fabulous especially for a special occasion, i.e. a birthday.
As we dined in the garden, the only noise was that of chirping birds and lovely fluttering butterflies. As always, the food was delicious and the service excellent. We had a leisurely lunch and a very enjoyable afternoon
graet！I like everything in it
L-Auberge Chez Francois is perfect. It's always perfect. It's old-school French, and I mean that in a positive way. In fact, it's a better French restaurant than every restaurant I've ever visited in France. My only complaint is that it's too far from my house to visit daily.
We always enjoy having lunch here. It's the best priced lunch deal in the DC area. It's not low cost, but you really get what you pay for here. Fantastic food and service. Our only problem is we need to remember to go more often!
L'Auberge Chez Francois is like being in France without having to leave home. There is no other experience or food that I have found in the USA that even comes close.
I enjoyed our 3 hour leisure luncheon in the gazebo outside. Our waiter was outstanding. He knew the magic of being attentive and giving us alone time. The meal was fabulous. I just loved everything about it.
Always great food, great service and great ambiance. We’ll definitely keep coming back. Thank you!
Dinner at L'Aubergd is always special! Wonderful food, attentive service, attractive surroundings, perfect pace -- it's all just right!
Although expensive, every bite of our meal was excellent. We were full but could not stop eating, it was so good. The service is wonderful - they catered to a special request and helped us celebrate our anniversary in style. The only issue we had was noise - it was difficult to hear each other over the table due to ambient noise. Regardless, we "fully" enjoyed our meals.
We dine at L’Auberge Chez Francois at least once a year. Never disappointed...always a special evening.
Attention to detail and attention to patrons is outstanding. The food is incredibly fresh with surprise appearances from produce grown in their own huge garden. Incredibly delicious food prepared with enthusiasm and professionalism.
Great food and terrific service. Extremely welcoming for a special occasion.
My husband and I had a wonderful Sunday Luncheon to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The food was excellent and the service was impeccable.
L'auberge is always a special treat each and every time one goes. Soft shell almondine is the best here. Not the greasy mess u get elsewhere. Best value anywhere.
Wonderful meal as always.
Amazing food....a destination meal for sure. Recommended for any special occasion or just to enjoy an excellent meal.
Everything was prepared to perfection. I would make one recommendation though. I had the tulip ice cream thingie for dessert. With such delicate flavors in the various ice creams and sorbets I think the whipped cream should be on the side because it literally overpowers the other flavors.
The service and the food was magnificent - definitely a special occasion restaurant!
We have been going to Chez Francois for many years, but because of life events, haven’t been able to visit for the last three years. However, when we arrived for our reservation, Mark immediately recognized my mother and welcomed her back, gave some condolences on the passing of my father, and remembered the table my father loved to reserve. He immediately changed our table to my father’s favorite table and sat us in the Main Dining room. It was so wonderful to be remembered and really treated like family. What a wonderful restaurant and a wonderful legacy left by the Monsieur.
Always a great experience with good food and relaxed atmosphere.
