The Infatuation
8.3

This French bistro is the place to see anyone who’s ever been on “Meet the Press". The food is also delicious.

Ratings 8.0-8.5:The best way to think about restaurants in the low to mid 8′s is that these are the places you would absolutely go back to, anytime. These restaurants are ones that you want to bring a friend to, just so they can also experience the duck carnitas, or burger, or whatever dish the place is known for.

Very attentive service! Great atmosphere! We sat at this cozy corner by the widow and it just felt like you were sitting in a Parisian bistro at a charming walkway in Montmartre!

Nowhere else in the DC area feels as authentically French as Le Diplomate. It’s not just the consistently excellent food, but the ambiance, the decor, the servers—THE BREAD!!! Oh la la!

I had been before and the food was great. I took my hubby for his 50th and it was...meh. 3 of the 4 of us got the steak frites and the meat was not of good quality- very hard on the outside and not too flavorful. The fries were excellent! My lovster risotto- I've had way better! The flavor- meh. The lobster was well cooked
The desserts were delicious esp. the prefiterole.

It’s a great restaurant that I’ve been wanting to visit for a while. I went here for a celebratory dinner and we had the steak and duck. Escargot and French onion soup for apps were awesome too. Highly recommend.

Ambiance is great - love the high ceilings. Mussels were fantastic (the best one in DC area to me); had Sunday’s special coq au Riesling. Delicious- .. great wine selection- service was top notch! Fully recommended.

Food and service were quite good, but the noise level made for a very uncomfortable visit...It was very difficult to carry on a conversation. We scarfed out food down and left quickly.

Always good food and great service. Noise level is nearly impossible for having a real conversation, but once you hit 10:30 p.m., it starts to clear out and you can talk again.

Our waiter CARLOS was exceptional! He recommended cheeses and wines. He was very knowledgeable and had a great sense of humor! We really enjoyed having him as our waiter.

The food and wine was fantastic. Everything served fresh and hot. We had cheese, escargot, breads and creme brulee, and a bottle of wine. I lived in France for 5 years and at Le Diplomate, I truly felt like I had traveled to Paris the minute we walked in the door!

Thanks,

Our birthday dinner was tasty but the restaurant was unbearably noisy - not conducive for conversation. As it was so difficult to get a reservation, I expected the food to be superb. It was not. Also, it was impossible to contact the restaurant in the evening to let them know that we would be delayed due to weather. All calls were sent to voice mail with the request to call the following day - makes no sense!

Le Diplomate never fails to put a smile on a wonderful evening- You really do feel transported to France and delivers in all the right ways- ambiance, menu and stellar service. The artfully arranged bread basket beckons, and the cacophony of talking and laughter around you lets you know all are feeling
likewise. Everyone employed here is unfailingly nice. Mr. Forbush stopped by, not once, but twice to check on us. My favorite restaurant in DC that hasn’t gotten lazy with its well deserved popularity.

Only complaint is please put the delicious frisée salad with lardons and egg back on the menu: I loved it!

As always, Le Diplomate is amazing. Food was out of this world and we really enjoyed ourselves. My one gripe would be for how much drinks cost you could make them a bit more potent. Martini is about half full and super watered down.

Great experience as always at le dip. We went for my father’s 60th birthday and everyone was incredibly nice. It was loud, especially for a Tuesday but the atmosphere is great and the food is incredible. Moules are always a favorite and the scallops are wonderful but I think our favorite was the veal, came with the most delicious mushrooms!

Food is good. Especially the mac and cheese. I’ve been here twice, first time for brunch and the food and service was fantastic. More recently was for dinner. Although the food was good, the service wasn’t up to the same standard as I’d experienced previously which was a bit of a let down. Luckily enough the food is that good that it won’t stop me from coming again, I just hope I get different wait staff. Overall a good experience.

Le Diplomate seldom disappoints. Sometimes menu choices prove to be better than others. I would pass next time on the Sunday special Coq au Reisling; chicken tender but broth not flavorful enough - too many onions; overall the dish seemed mediocre compared to other things I have had. Wine pours seem skimpier than in the past. Excellent server.
