On entering the Bird in Hand, I was welcomed by all the staff I encountered. Once seated, I was offered the menu and asked if I wanted a drink. The drink, a Cosmopolitan, arrived quickly and was delicious. When the food was delivered a Cajun chicken burger, it was piping hot as were the accompanying crispy chips. The chicken was very tasty and the heat of the dressing was nicely balanced by the coleslaw and pickles which were served with it. I would definitely recommend this dish. The serving staff were aware of when I had finished the course, cleared the used items promptly and, after offering the dessert menu, which I was too replete to take advantage of, allowed me the space and time to relax before serving the coffee. If you enjoy good food, well presented and cooked in a friendly environment then the Bird in Hand is the place to be.

From the moment we entered this wonderful restaurant, we were happy we’d decided to walk out of the bustling areas of Oxford in search of another option. The service was great and so was the food. And we really enjoyed the artwork in the area where we sat, as well as how quiet it was, something missing from many other area restaurants. Our only disappointment was that we’d let them know we were coming to the restaurant to celebrate a milestone birthday and this appears to have been forgotten.

Great service and lovely food in a relaxed and sophisticated environment. Outdoor lighting unfortunately wasn’t turned on so we where left reliant on the couple on the next door table to turn on heating lamp just to get some lighting. Fortunately they were happy to keep doing so, as heater was on a timer and kept turning off at regular intervals.

I have been coming to the Green Oak for a number of years. I am delighted to confirm that after a period of mediocrity it’s now firmly back in the great category. Regularly meet up with old work colleagues who now seem to favour the Green Oak for our get together. Food is of a good standard consistently, but the real USP is the staff always a different person but always the same outstanding service friendly welcoming warm. Whoever is responsible for interview and selection well done, don’t ever drop your standard it’s what makes the difference.
