Charming place, great view, by the quay, good portions, delicious food with authentic taste, good value for money as well (reasonably priced for location, ambiance and dining experience). Overall, highly recommended place for a value fine-dining experience with great food! Will surely visit again.
It was shut down
We went for the Valentines menu. The staff are really attentive but I think they should have one waiter handling the table because our order was mixed up. I ordered a lamb main but got something vegetarian and it felt like they forgot our dessert. Either way, the dessert was slow coming even though we had 3 different waiters approach our table asking what we were waiting for.
The address on Opentable needs to be updated.
It's not easy to find.
But I thought the food tasted great.
Excellent food as usual, but the service was a bit slow. A bit on the expensive side for a place of this kind. The new location is an upgrade with views over the South Dock, but not easy to find. Please update the address in OpenTable (and probably other services too).
We booked on Open Table and had confirmation. When we got to the restaurant, it had moved to another address. We walked the 15 mins to the new address and there was no restaurant there. This was our New Year’s Eve dinner out so spoilt our evening. Open Table should have correct and up to date information. I can’t understand how we got a confirmed booking at a non-existent restaurant.
The starters were nice, the butter chicken and rice were too sweet. The restaurant is set near the river so the views are good. The decor needs updating. The service was excellent but lacked when trying to pay for the bill.
Sorry, the food was not good and it is over expensive.
I love a good dosa, and Manjal did not disappoint!
Excellent South Indian food, from starter to kulfi dessert.
Great food and service
Attentive Staff. Great Food.
Starters were both fantastic and very generous portions. Mains were less generous on meat content, but the black dhal was tops.
The mixed grill is amazing
Went to Manjal over the weekend to enjoy some excellent curries with delicious naans to boot. We had walked past this restaurant many times as we live in the area and decided to give it a try. Interior is cosy and intimate without having everyone jammed up. We arrived at what we thought would be a quiet time but there were several parties already enjoying dinner and new groups came in during the course of our dinner so it is a popular place.
With regards to the food, we opted for having three starters and three main courses together with some cocktails. One thing I appreciated is that tap water is already waiting for you on the table in a bottle by default; in most restaurants you have to ask for this so having it present already helps whet the throat whilst making choices from the menu. The portions themselves are generous; I think we could have done with 2 starters between the three of us (we probably would have dropped the battered squid as we have had better) and the curries were enough to fill us up. Naans were delicious enough to re-order and to help soak up the last of the curries. Cocktails were ok; the rose and lychee cocktail is delicious but sweet, the champagne cocktail I likely wouldn't order again but having said that it wasn't bad, just not something I'd try again.
Service attentive throughout, overall a great dinner and a good experience; many thanks!
Great food great service great surroundings! The atmosphere was just right too..
Very tasty indian cuisine with attentive service. Beware spice levels here though, when they spicy they mean SPICY!
Good South Indian food. Pretty close to the real deal!
Great place! There was quite a few of us and everything was done in a timely manor and we were well looked after.
Excellent food and ambience
The food and service at Manjal were both very good! Highly recommend this restaurant.
Food is very highly spiced
Paneer starter was good. However took 55 minutes from the time we placed our order for the mains to arrive (we were told they would take 20-25 minutes). When dosas arrived, they arrived one by one (so we couldn't eat together) and were all cold. We complained to 2 different waiters and of the three dosas, they only offered to remake 1 which did come out warm. In the end, we were just so hungry we ate the cold dosas! The taste was good but just slow service and cold mains considering there were just 3-4 other parties in the whole restaurant at any one time. We fed back to the manager and just got a 'sorry come back next time'. Overall disappointed.
Some delicious authentic Indian flavours at Manjal, we have enjoyed it every time as a local gem. The methi chicken is so good!
well the staff is inhospitable and rude. It takes ages to serve and you cannot take kids along. I went along with my friends family and his toddler was crying the staff didnt wait for 30 seconds and came to table and asked us to stop the kid from crying... The place is very congested as tables are placed too closely. The food is good but the stuff needs a course in hospitality on urgent basis....
As usual high quality creative Indian food with professional and friendly service - try the dosas, wonderful!
Very slow service from the kitchen whereby customers where coming in half an hour after us and getting there food before. which was a shame as the food here is very good.
Great authentic Indian cuisine. Paneer is excellent!
Decent food. Dosa is good. I do suspect they are not welcoming towards families with children because they've stopped offering us a table every time we mention baby at the time of booking but we have always been welcome before (without baby) and on occasions we did not call and just happened to walk in .
Dosas are fantastic, service friendly and professional. We go at least once a month and it’s a banker!
We were a group of 7 and it was our first time there. We enjoyed the starters and dessert a lot and the mains were good too. We had been there for a special occasion and the place was quite suitable for the occasion.
Good food and service. Generally pleasant experience. Dal is nice
Lovely atmosphere and delicious food.
Very good service.
The service was really good. We were served by Anna. Really appreciated the friendliness and good service
Manjal never disappoints. Took my old friends from Scotland for an evening meal. They loved it! We loved it!! The Malbec was good. We ordered the Green Banana bhajiyas , wada pal, kurkuri bhindi, chicken varuval and tirangaa chicken. It was finger licking good.
Very good food. Very good food. Very good food. Very good food.
I always come here and food is always good but prices have extortionately increased?! I can understand if it's by a little bit to respond to inflation. But everything costs £2 more for each item. Why? Not good for your loyal customers who always come here for regular dining. Now we have to cut back. :(
The food's the thing here. Much better than your average Indian (usually Bangladeshi) restaurant, including the ones everyone else raves about in East London. Lighting is way too bright in the evenings, hence the two stars for ambience. Turn the lighting down a bit, and this place is easily four stars all the way, nudging five in places. Also easy to park, and a good view over the Crossharbour docks. Pretty good wine list as well, and friendly staff (usually!).
Didn't like it at all, safe were rude. Went for valentines wasn't posh, classy, just a plan boring room.
Outstanding food and service
Great taste, quick service, recommended extras
