What Insiders Are Saying
Mott Street, a restaurant on Ashland near Wicker Park, serves interesting, delicious Asian-influenced food.
Branzino was great.
We were disappointed to learn they don't serve their burger unless you are sitting at the bar or unless its from 6-7 PM. We went there for the burger so even though the rest of the food was pretty good it was overall disappointing. It's unclear to me why people sitting at the bar 10 feet away from me could order the burger but I couldn't.
Went back after a not so great experience and had a really solid second time around. Great food, great drinks. Excellent burger.
Mott St. was fantastic. Outside of a hiccup when we walked in with seating arrangements and high chairs, the experience was great. One of the best burgers I've had in a long time.
The Mott Street burger was unreal, easily the best burger I have ever had. I definitely think it is better than Au Chevals' burger. Bold statement I know, make the decision for yourself!
Food was great but the service unfortunately ruined the experience. Our server was super sweet however we never saw her. We waited twenty minutes for her to initially come over for the first time and take our order. After she delivered our first course we never saw her again until we asked for the check. Mid-meal we paused so we could order another round of drinks for the last two courses. After waiting another twenty minutes for her to come over so we could order a drink we gave up and decided to eat the last course which at that point was freezing cold. The hot food we did eat was delicious but unfortunately the almost non exsistent service really threw the entire meal off.
Great service. Amazing food. Can't wait to return.
Everything we ordered was delicious and my out-of-town foodie friends were really impressed. We sat on the patio which was lovely and the service was outstanding!
Everybody going to this restaurant should order the stuffed cabbage! It is incredibly delicious :)
Excellent shared plates and efficient and knowledgeable wait staff. Love this place! Perfect on the patio on a summer night.
Food is amazing! Go with at least a few people so you can try more dishes!!!! The service was excellent.
Fun outdoor seating even if a little tight. Food was not bad but not amazing. Wish the waiter told us the 2 dishes we ordered were almost identical rice dishes and would be similar in taste, if we had realized we would have ordered something different.
This was another fun visit to Mott St. Every time we go, there is something that catches us completely by surprise and that is absolutely delicious. This time, it was the tipsy noodles that were just amazing. The oyster mushrooms and cauliflower dishes were great, too. I wouldn't say that every dish at Mott is perfect, but they do small plates really well and we have always had enough captivating items each visit to keep us coming back.
So amazing! We definitely over indulged a bit by getting 7 plates for 2 people, including the Mott burger haha but everything was just so good. Our favorites were the empanadas, the burger, the catfish in a clay pot (SO GOOD), and the sticky rice dessert. I wish we tried the kimchi udon, but we’ll definitely be back. The service was excellent too :)
The food was very delicious. The service was great initially, but as it got more busy, the service declined. We waited half an hour to get our check and then waited another 15 minutes for it to be picked up and processed. Other than that, the service was very friendly and the meal was great.
Love the patio and the food is great. They’ve got to stop with the host/hostess attitude. It’s every time we go there. This time, there were customers standing around, servers standing around, and lots of empty tables. Why make people wait to sit when servers are not busy? Doesn’t make sense to me. We are regulars but considering not going back due to the host/hostess. Really annoying this is not NYC. Actually in my experience in NYC, most hosts are nice and you only wait if the restaurant is full. We are unsure who management is or we would tell them of our experience. In most restaurants it’s easy to spot a manager but we won’t think it is here.
Different, amazing food and great service. Highly recommend
Came here for a Chicago brunch and was SO happy! The neighborhood was cute, the restaurant itself was homey and fun, and the server was amazing- SO nice and so friendly. The dumplings were to die for, the guava mottmosa was delicious and perfect for a summer morning, and the meal itself was quite good too. Truly an amazing experience for an out of towner, and easy to get to as well!
Brunch was outstanding!
Mott St was delicious! The burger (which is what they are best known for) was incredible. I didn’t love the pork belly eggs benedict though. By far the best dish was the gailan. One of the best things I’ve ever eaten. Would definitely go back and would definitely recommend to others.
Food and service was excellent but if I have made a reservation in advance, I will expect my table will be ready upon the time of the reservation
Lived up to expectations. Everything on the menu looked delicious. I loved the burger. My wife has the bourbon cherry toast, and she loved it.
I wish the menu had more healthy choices. Like some vegetables. But the mussels and the cod were good. And the tiny lemon poppyseed donuts were amazing. Some new cocktails on the menu were really light and tasty. And the summer patio is lovely and surprisingly quiet for a date.
Food here is still good but front of the house need work. Always new people working there struggling to figure out what to do. Had a reservation and waited 30 minutes before being called for a table. Meanwhile, there were plenty of empty tables. Not sure how, my food manages to still be good.
Great experience and the staff was amazing!
Went there specifically to try the Mott Burger but they only serve it at the bar. Decided to have drinks and apps outside since we were already seated and didnt want to cost the waiter a tab once we found out. Were told we could get the burger at the bar after but they failed to tell us the kitchen closed in 30 minutes. We weren't able to get the burger and had to leave after 2 apps and some cocktails. They comp'd us 2 extra drinks but overall it was still a bummer. The food we did have was good. Outside seating is a bit cramped. Cocktails were alright. Still want to go back for the burger.
Only disappointment was that we couldn't order the burger from our table (only available 6-7 or at brunch).
Every dish was packed with so much flavor. Went with 2 others, and ordered perfectly.
Brussel sprouts- crispy and delish, but I think I could make them at home...
Gai Lan- F***ING INCREDIBLE. Not even sure what it was, but so flavorful.
Everything chicken wings- so crispy yet so juicy... the sauce was incredible as well...
Pork Jowl- delish and juicy.
Whole fish- yum
Best burger on this pla et
This was so delicious, definitely recommend the coconut pancakes!
Great food and service, but pricey and can get noisy
Food was amazing!
Very interesting restaurant with a lot of selections on the menu. We ordered 5 dishes (3 small and 2 medium), and there were ones we like and others we don't care too much. Since there are still a good portion of the menu we didn't explore, would like to go next time for brunch or something. Service overall good but nothing stunning (compared with Michelin restaurants).
Food was one note and at times salty. The pancetta made the brussels but it was still oily. The wings were on the dry side and did not live up to expectation. The pork jowl could have been cut thicker for more of a meaty texture than bacon sized. The sisig was very salty when mixed with the sauce and did not remind me of the traditional sisig flavors. I was excited to try the stuffed cabbage but the flavors fell flat and needed something more than the one noted butter kimchi sauce. The crunchy rice was good but the pork did not really come through.
Overall not terrible but had much higher expectations for Mott Street. I would come back and try the burger at the bar but probably not for the other food.
Everything was great. Simon was a terrific waiter. The cocktail with pisco was delicious. The Chinese broccoli was amazing. The egg roll, beef broth soup, and cod were all great. Lovely patio.
Food was amazing and very unique. A lot of Filipino and Korean inspiration.
Food was absolutely fantastic ! I had made reservations for my boyfriends birthday & they took us to a table right away. Our waiter was kind of leaving us last in the sense of how many tables he was taking care of. He did have a large party. But we kept having to ask other waiters to add more to our order. When making the reservation I did say it was a birthday occasion. They must’ve completely forgot but I wanted to make my boyfriend feel a little special on his day lol. He wasn’t upset but to me it was a minor let down. But over all the food made up for it !
Overall I’d give this place a 3. If my rating was just on the food it would be a 5 for sure. The wings were to die for and the cauliflour was unreal. Not to mention we basically drank straight from the bowl for the muscles. However. I’m giving this a 3 for the service.
First off, I walked in right on time for a party of two and they made me wait till my friend got there to seat me. I get waiting for half of a large party but it was literally two people.... I would’ve ordered a drink while I waited so I though that was just rude. To top it off the host was going to sit us at the communal table that bad bar stools with no backs, but since I was recently hit by a car and have back problems I asked to sit at the two tops that had seats with backs. The host very sarcastically said “oh no I wouldn’t be able to accommodate that request” smiled and then walked off. Unbelievable rude. If you didn’t have a server for that section or that space was reserved just tell me and I’ll understand, don’t be rude about it! Then our service was fine but at the end of dinner the server came up with the check before we were even finished and when I said “well we may order one more drink” he told us they had a 14 top waiting on us to leave... it had been an hour and a half of us sitting there.
Overall would not go back and would not recommmened. I don’t pay a good chunk of money to be treated poorly and kicked out.
Food was excellent. Had been wanting to go here for awhile. We had brunch and it was suggested to order a mix of items and do family style to experience things . I should have staggered the order as we ordered starters and mains at once both starters arrived and then minutes later our mains . I felt rushed and didn't want cold food. The food was excellent definitely will go back
Great food, nice ambiance, good service.
It was first time and we had a terrific experience. The staff was excellent and they helped us finish in time to make our play at the Chopin Theater. We shared all of the dishes: brussel sprouts, Szechuan chili shrimp, imperial rolls and the Mott burger which is served only between 6 and 7 pm at dinner and also at the bar. (double chuck patties, sweet potato shoestrings, hoisin aioli, pickled jalapenos, dill pickles, miso butter, american cheese and an egg) Fanyastic!!
All the items paired well with a bottle of Italian white. Many more items on the menu which we look forward to trying in the future!
