If you’re looking for Stranger Things in Amsterdam, this is the neighborhood for you. Located on the grounds that housed the former Royal Dutch Shell Research facility, new apartments and condos began springing up in 2007—and the plan is for a whole new realm of commercial, retail and cultural spaces, with complimentary restaurants and cafes to feed this rapid growth. While the eateries are still a bit limited, you can stop in for a burger or some tasty small plates before checking out an art house movie theatre of the Amsterdam tower—the view from the top is unmissable, even in the snow.
