Auntie’s Wok and Steam @ Alley On 25 Singapore is an ode to Singapore's tze char food culture. Naturally, this means you can find dim sum, rice, noodle and meat dishes done the way that only Singapore knows how. The all-day dining menu offers nothing but quality and there’s an exceptional set menu during the week. Then, this being Alley On 25 – part of Andaz Singapore on Fraser Street in Bugis – means alongside great food you can also look forward to stunning skyline views of the city. We also highly recommend the private chef’s table experience that involves an up-close-and-personal teppanyaki demonstration, with a seasonally changing menu. What more could any hungry Singaporean need? Advanced reservations are essential at Auntie’s Wok and Steam @ Alley On 25, especially in the evenings and at weekends.

Founder Bak Kut Teh in Bugis is one of Singapore’s most loved and sought-after dining spots. Specialising in rou gu cha – or bak kut teh in the Hokkien and Teochew dialects – for over 40 years, Founder Bak Kut Teh is without a doubt the place to head for steaming bowls of this delicious dish. With several branches peppered throughout Singapore, each bowl of delicious Chinese soup is made using fresh pork ribs that are simmered in a secret broth made with an array of herbs and spices. La Cala Singapore is a Spanish and Mediterranean restaurant in the heart of Bugis, one that we really can’t get enough of. It’s a contemporary space on Fraser Street that’s casual and great for lunch or dinner. The menu is as authentically Spanish as it gets and features tapas, paella, fresh fish and seafood, premium meat and a few options fresh from the charcoal oven to boot. There’s so much to recommend, but we really love the pigeon paella or the Catalan-style slow-cooked lamb rack. La Cala Singapore is right by Bugis MRT so it’s easy to get to no matter where you’re coming from, just be sure to arrive armed with an advance reservation.

Tabbouleh Lebanese Gourmet Cafe and Restaurant is a bustling eatery that serves authentic Middle Eastern cuisine. One of two venues, you’ll find this branch tucked away on Bussorah Street within the Singapore Visitor Centre @ CUBE. Just a short walk from Bugis station, it’s a restaurant well worth seeking out. Their menu is full of traditional Lebanese food, from fresh salad and homemade dips to grilled meat specialities. The talented chefs at Tabbouleh use the charcoal grill to perfection, so we highly recommend ordering the platter of spiced meat skewers with rice and vegetables. The seafood dishes are also notable, such as marinated tiger prawns or deep-fried whole fish with tahini. Tabbouleh Lebanese Gourmet Cafe and Restaurant also has a nice and casual atmosphere, with both indoor and outdoor seating.
