Discover Frederik Hendrikbuurt
Affectionately called “Fred,” Frederik Hendrikbuurt is an adorable little area in Amsterdam’s West district, featuring lots of wide-open green space. This lush residential neighborhood could be thought of as an island within a city, because of the two canals that sit on either side of it. Though it’s small, Fred has restaurants serving a variety of cuisines, from Caribbean and Indonesian to European and Italian pizzerias. It also has a classic windmill, called “de Otter,” that sits along the Kostverlorenvaart canal and dates back to roughly the eighteenth century.
