Very noisy with bunch of kids birthday party going on. Food not good, in particular the sandwiches and cakes (which we believed is made to look like toys to please the kids) for the price we paid ! Give it a 3 stars only for the OK service.
A wonderful experience! Great food, lovely tables, Good service. Quite pricy, but worth it!
Atmosphere great, tea was outstanding, sandwiches were incredible. It was the pastry part that was lacking a little. Cupcakes were dry and there was too many very sweet things so if you like that you will be pleased.
Overall though very lovely and worth it.
Even though the regular high tea menu was supposed to be offered during our recent reservation, we were told that only the Christmas tea was available. My daughter was offered a kids tea but we were charged for the full 41-pound tea for her anyway even though she got a small portion of what we did. They claim that you have unlimited tea, cakes, scones and desserts, but the servers hardly ever return to your table, so the strategy seems to be if you ask for anything you won't get it for 25 minutes and then you just give up. We asked for more jam as tea was served since there was one tiny dollop given to us for three people, and we did not receive it for at least 20 minutes. We asked for more scones (there were two of each for three people and the chocolate ones were gross) and did not receive those until after we had given up and asked for the check. We were never offered water or more tea even though we drank the tea almost immediately. They offer candy at the Hardy's candy bar cart with a small paper envelope that might hold two gummy bears., I hardly understand the point and when we were just looking at the cart but had no intention of actually getting any candy, the waiter rushed over and insisted on doing it for us as if to imply that we were going to handle the unwrapped candy ourselves. All in all, there are way better places to have tea in London and especially for 150 pounds for three people.
Great first experience at afternoon team with my family. Great service and food. Very pricey but a great treat if you can afford it.
The service was TERRIBLE. For 30 minutes after we sat down, no one came to get our order. We asked a server to order and he brought us the mulled wine tasting (the welcome drink) but STILL no one came to take our order. It took another fifteen minutes of making eye contact with servers for one to finally tell our waiter to come. After he did, he took our order and brought our food. For the most part it was good, although nothing was spectacular. The scones, chocolate and praline eclair and cranberry coconut Christmas ball were delicious, and the tea was good. However, we continued to be ignored by our server. At one point we asked someone to refill our sandwiches, scones, and desserts, and they came back much later with only the sandwiches. In the end, we gave up and decided to leave. The ambience was nice, the food was decent, but nothing can make up for the terrible service we got, which was never acknowledged, and never improved even after we had to ask several times to be helped. I have been here before and enjoyed it, but I was VERY disappointed.
A bit pricy but sweet bag souvenior idea is good for kids. My daughter is pleased with it.
Arrived at the hotel greeted warmly and feeling Christmasy already. At the restaurant, escorted to our table and explained the menu so well with welcome drinks (hot wine) that was really nice. The afternoon tea food were so nice with lots of variety for the sandwiches, scones and puddings. There was candy cart as well for you to take home. The set up inside the restaurant was so vibrant, red decors and Christmas decor in every corner. Such a lovely place to spend the afternoon tea with! Thank you for the amazing experience!
Service was very slow although the staff were very pleasant
Food was delicious. Service was wonderful and very attentive. Ambience was great though when the singer was on break would’ve been nice to have some music playing in the background. But overall was a wonderful experience and would definitely come back again.
Highly priced Afternoon tea. Dry scones, hypersweet pastries and very slow service
Loved this venue. What better way to spend a rainy afternoon.
Excellent venue and food. All staff was very polite and welcoming and added to the experience especially Loris! Would defiantly recommend.
Great atmosphere, live singing, lovely food. The children really enjoyed it. Would highly recommend & would go again.
The cakes were all very plastic or foam like..they didn’t taste like much at all. The scones still tasted like the fridge.
The service was very good and its a lovely setting.
Most amazing afternoon tea service is always impeccable. Love it there will always go back!
Overrated and overpriced. Food way too sweet.
Fantastic afternoon tea with kids. Definitely a family atmosphere, so might not be a top choice for a date, if you were going to take a date to tea.
This place tried hard, but honestly it fell way short for me. The sandwiches were stale, scones were hard and were not warm (obvi not baked fresh). The sweets were beautiful but were sickeningly sweet.
The best part was the tea. Great tea selection and it’s bottomless. Fruit tea and chocolate tea were so good.Service was also great...my server was super accommodating. And they let you take home a sweet at the end.
At 40 pounds it fell way short for me. It’s a kitschy tourist trap...go somewhere else for a legit London tea.
Wow! Is the first word which comes to mind. Can truly rekommend this to my friends and family. It was a great experience! Will try to visit you again next time we travel to UK and London.
I had already sent an email specifying our dietary requirements and was sent a list by the hotel stating what the selection of cakes and pastries would be on the day for the vegan option. The list included more than 5 different cakes and pastries. We understand that not all of these would have been served and neither were we expecing them all, however serving just a carrot cake, a bowl of fruit and a sorbet is really not what we were expecting and were rather shocked that that is all that was offered as a vegan option. Also it really was not very nice either. The carrot cake did not even taste like a carrot cake but rather a low quailty supermarket madeira cake. The fruit bowl was a total cop out as it shows no thought or skill and certainly is not something that should be served as part of an afternoon tea, especially in a hotel such as The Chesterfied and the vegan fruit scones tasted stale. In all honesty the sweets in the traditional afternoon tea were not anything special either. We all found them way too sweet and rather disappointing. The cherry cupcake was so dry. The apple pastry was inedible. The only positive is that the macaroon and cola slice were quite nice and the non vegan scones were nice too.
We were also charged a 12.5% service. The servers were all very friendly and pleasant however the service wasn't the greatest and definitely not worth the 12.5%. We had to call the servers over a number of times to top up the tea and sandwiches and were not asked at any point if we wanted refills. Also the food took quite some time to come out in the first place. All in all we spent around £230 at The Chesterfied and expected much better. I had already been to the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Tea there about 4 years ago and was very impressed with it which is why we were looking forward to this one and expected it to be of the same (or better) quality. However it was not. Also nobody has still replied to my email regarding my complaint.
This was our first time to London and Afternoon tea was a must! This definitely lived up to our expectations. The candy theme was perfect, and not too overwhelming. Great food and staff. Would highly recommend.
Birthday experience for my friend who flew all the way over from across the seas! It was amazing. The ambience, food, deco- everything was great. The staff seemed a bit frazzled and had to wait a bit for our order because it was so busy. But other than that, we had a great time
Great sandwiches- unlimited everything from m tea, to desserts to snacks. Plus kids get a teddy bear and everyone gets a bag of candy to take home!
Service was excellent; ambiance
Beautiful well done afternoon tea experience. Everything was delicious.
Brilliant. Well worth it!
It is a great place to go with kids and no feelings of anxiety of ruining the ambience - the staff are very helpful
We had a good time but the service was very slow. Staff were very friendly though
Just ok. Good service, nice stuff. The food was just ok. Nothing to remember the next day
Perfect for a fun mid-afternoon treat. The staff were very friendly and attentive and the food was delicious and great value for money with the option to order more of the pieces you liked. The candy station was also a fun element and provided a nice take home treat!
Beaucoup trop sucré nous n’avons pas pu manger les pâtisseries qui étaient écœurantes, payer 120€ c’est vraiment trop cher
Wonderful service and delicious tea and tea things.
Afternoon tea was lovely, the staff very friendly and helpful.. all staff are very child friendly so was great for my 3 year old.
Amazing afternoon tea, perfect for spoiling little people and grown ups a like.
Lovely atmosphere, staff welcoming, accommodating and friendly.
unfortunately we were disappointed with the whole event :(
I only booked this from the photos I found online from the charlie and the chesterfield (so themed around Charlie & the chocolate fty)
when we reached the venue we saw it was the original sweet shop instead and we wanted to leave and go to the mad hatters afternoon tea but it was too far and my daughter was hungry
the vegetarian options were limited - my mum doesn't like cheese and is allergic to egg.
so for £47 she got to eat an avocado sandwich and a cucumber sandwich. the cakes were just a bit too crazy and the only thing she liked was the scone
so for £47 a scone and a couple of sandwiches it was disappointing
for myself, i actually only eat chocolate based desserts, which they didnt have any of (they were all mixed with fudge or peanut butter etc) the only nice thing was a chocolate chip scone but could only eat 1 of those.
the sandwiches were nice for me
my daughters meal was £21 and she just had a ham, cheese and jam sandwich and a couple of cakes which again were too fancy for her to eat as she also only likes chocolate
it was very quiet and not very busy, and it just all felt a little dated for my personal taste.
the best thing was the service from the staff and the teddy and sweets my daughter got
My 7 year old daughter and I took a very good friend to afternoon tea for her birthday! The staff were amazing, which helped my friend feel really special on her birthday. The Sweetshop theme was a fantastic extra treat. Thank you.
Beautiful, food was delicious as was the tea. Everyone was attentive, but at the end of our tea it took a while to get the bill. We were chatting so no big deal, that would be the only negative.
Food was ok. Much better afternoon tea locations in London. Service was slow. Wouldn’t go again.
