First time here, our server was so well trained and made our experience terrific. She knew the menu and kept our fun level up with each surprise from the kitchen. Her bussers were also good, always asked if we were finished with a plate, brought new dishes out and carefully placed them. Oh, the service and atmosphere (we sat outside) were so good, almost forgot to mention the brilliant food. Plate sizes were perfect for three people and everything was delicious. All veg dishes were extraordinary and the lamb lasagne devine. We must have tried 40-50% of the menu. Younger diners will probably get through 70%. Yummmmm!
My husband and I had another great experience at Ambar! Tamara, our server was outstanding!! A definite must when in DC!!
Great small dishes with both meat and veggie options. The sofa arrangement is very comfortable, and the service is great!
The dinner menu was extensive and I highly recommend coming here for dinner. The brunch menu does not have as much options as the lunch and the dinner menu so it is my least favorite. However, everything is reasonably priced and service is excellent.
Great experience with good service and good food!
We made a reservation and when we arrived we seated immediately ( Saturday night) the service was great . The waitress was really friendly and patient with us asking questions about the menu since it was our first time. The food came out rather quickly and was very tasty. The price is very reasonable, unlimited tapas style food was great leaving us full but not uncomfortable. The unlimited drinks for 20 was also very nice. Will definitely go again
Ambar used to be a go to for special occasions - no more. They’ve increasingly added restrictions to their all you can eat experience, are rude in enforcing them, and have a general take it or leave it attitude. I choose to leave it. We had a party of 6 and were told we could only order 6 dishes at a time. That would be fine if the portions were large but they’re tapas sized so we ended up only feeding a third of the table at a time. We had one party member who had dietary restrictions who was not allowed to just order dishes on his own so he didn’t get his first dish until an hour into the meal. All you can drink is also now restricted so you can’t order another drink until you were completely done with the first. Our table ended up with 2 drinks over the 2 hr period because we never saw our waiter in time to follow all these restrictive rules. They raised their prices, reduced portion sizes, and added restrictive rules that do not work well with their staffing/workflow. What used to be a great time becomes an overpriced, frustrating experience.
It was absolutely delish and my friends and I had a blast trying so many dishes and drinks.
The food was amazing. Our server was great--attentive and helpful with suggestions.
casual, inventive, flavor driven, well presented.....need I say more?
The menu can be a bit overwhelming but if you have a great server like Cornelio he'll bring out the favorites and classic go-to's in Balkan cuisine. The 1st and 2nd floor have a really interior decor, a little disappointed with the 3rd floor which seems better for lunch or a more casual setting.

Food is too heavy with cream in every dish. The flavors are not that different from dish to dish.
This was one of the best restaurant experiences we’ve had in a long time. The food was great, the service was fantastic, and the outdoor seating was nice. We didn’t realize it was an all-you-can-eat experience until we got there and I was worried at first, but the way they do their small plates is an excellent concept. We would definitely return here to enjoy more of the amazing food. As an additional note, they are extremely accommodating to people with food allergies. My wife needs to avoid gluten and dairy and our awesome waitermade sure all of our food was safe for her to eat. Highly recommend!!
Great food and ambiance. Service is a bit slow so make sure to order a lot at once.
Brunch great options, tasty, even better price for unlimited tapas and mimosas for 2 hrs.
Sean is the best server ever, thanks for a great meal!
Great food for an incredible price. We absolutely love it. The cheese pie is fantastic. Order several. Only complaint would be the noise level. It's hard to have a conversation.
Great food and amazing service! We got to try all the delicious food with the Ambar experience. Highly recommend this place!
The unlimited food and drink option is worth it! Highly recommend the lamb lasagna and the beef short rib.
If you get the first or second floor it’s a nice atmosphere. If you are at the third floor. It’s like a diner. The service was good. The food was a bit cold and just ok. I got the ambassador experience. I recommend trying it out but it’s not for me.
As always, an amazing experience. Top notch food and efficient service. Cocktails are also a great choice!
Tasty and plentiful! Fantastic service and great atmosphere outside.
Amazing meal! Did the “Ambar Experience” which essentially allows you and the table to sample pretty much anything on the menu and boy was it incredible! Our waiter had plenty of amazing recommendations and was patient as we explored and navigated the menu trying out all the wonderful Balkan cuisine! The ambiance was great too. Sitting up on the third floor with the open ceiling to the outdoors felt amazing. Will definitely be coming back soon!
Fantastic time. Lovely service and delicious food. Highly recommend. Come with an empty stomach!!
The food was great and service was awesome! Cortney was such a great waiter.
The food and service were outstanding. Given that it was an all you can eat menu, and we weren’t super hungry, it wasn’t worth it for us.
Confusing menu with lots of small plates that were brought to the table in somewhat haphazard fashion. One time we had lots of food, but no plates to put it on, and no utensils to eat it with! We had eaten at Ambar several previous times, and had reviewed it more positively, but we did not enjoy this bundled menu, with the numerous decisions that had to be made, several of which were not clear. There were 6 of us in our party, and perhaps that made it more difficult. Two-four people might have been able to more easily negotiate it. We hope they return to the previous menu or one similar to it.
We are less likely to recommend Ambar that we have previously been.
We love this restaurant but our last two visits have been met with unavailable menu items and little recipe changes that decreased the usual high quality. Plus, the mixed drinks have varied greatly in strength, sweetness, etc.
Cortney was our waiter Sunday at 11 and made FANTASTIC mimosas! We had a great time and I even got a birthday plate! Bottomless brunch was definitely worth the price and every dish was incredibly flavorful~ small bites so you can honestly try as much of the menu as you can fit :) some of the food did take a moment to come through, but it was always hot and the mimosas kept us plenty entertained in the mean time 9/10 reccomend!
Unfortunately, my husband and I weren't thrilled with Ambar. We were there celebrating our anniversary and we noted that in our reservation. There was no acknowledgement of our anniversary from the staff like other restaurants have done. Our "table" wasn't ready when we arrived so we had to wait. We had a reservation for bar seating which I thought was a table in the bar area based on the website photos and after calling and asking about it, but it wasn't in the bar area it was the actual bar so that was disappointing. Especially since the food runners parked their trays right next to us the entire time. It was very loud and not the place for an anniversary dinner.
The "Dining Experience" isn't worth the price and the food is already made so it's not as fresh as it should be. Several things were cold or over cooked. You can add unlimited drinks, but they aren't very good either. Very bottom-shelf liquor used. I think you are better to order from the menu instead of having the unlimited options. Overall, we were disappointed with the experience.
The Balkan experience is amazing! My fiance and I went there this past weekend and loved every dish. The dishes are fairly small which was perfect so we could try just about everything on the menu.
Great food and service! From the time we walked in, we were treated wel. The food was some of the best I’ve ever had. Great place for a date night
Bday for my friend was a total blast
Service was top notch. Food was delicious as always.
Ambar's all you can eat experience is really a fantastic deal. The food and drinks are delicious!!
With the $60 unlimited food and drinks Balkan experience and happy hour deals Ambar is always a great time.
Amazing as always, especially the pork neck!
