Ambra - Philadelphia
Really an excellent tasting menu, ambiance, and service. Not sure anyone could find any faults here. Highly recommended.
I never write reviews but this restaurant deserves so much more buzz. I've been twice and it's great. You should go
One of the best meals I’ve ever had. Perfection from start to finish!
We had an amazing meal at Ambra. The courses were perfectly sized so that you could enjoy the entire meal. The wine pairings were also excellent and perfectly matched each course. A truly special place and worth every penny.
The best restaurant in Philadelphia. The food and the wine paring work perfectly together. The staff is very welcoming and accommodating. The ambiance is charming.
Food was delicious. Service great. Also, the wine pairings were perfect. Very intimate. There are only five tables in the restaurant. Would go back.
This was our first time dining Ambra. It was a great experience. The food, ambiance, and service was perfect. If you are adventurous and love great food, give this place a try before everyone else finds it. I plan to go back soon.
Every course was exceptional. Incredible food and wine pairings all successful. Service was attentive without being pretentious. Perfect meal to celebrate our wedding anniversary.
Food was amazing, wine was amazing, jay was extremely knowledgable and helpful with wine information and pairing details.
Low key atmosphere, friendly staff, great food, nostalgic tunes.
The food at Ambra was superb and plated beautifully. We thoroughly enjoyed the perfect wine pairing . Kudos to the designer of the space which is beautiful, warm and welcoming and most of all very comfortable. It was neither cramped or loud which made us very happy. I can’t wait for our next visit!
Loved it. Marvelous food in a very romantic atmosphere.
An amazing dinner. Jay, the sommelier, was great. The whole experience was spectacular!
Amazing experience! Top notch!
We enjoyed a lovely meal here last night. Inventive food, perfectly portioned and paced. Thoroughly knowledgeable and kind staff. Impeccable wine pairing by the sommelier. Love that they’re connected to Southwark so you can wait at the bar. Their attention to detail was impeccable, they personalized not only my meal but my actual written tasting menu to accommodate a nut allergy. We had a 9 course meal and felt wonderful after, not bloated or stuffed like you would expect. This was completely due to how much attention they pay to portions. It was spot on. I felt wonderful afterwards. Our only suggestions would be to turn the music down, and perhaps choose a softer genre for such an intimate place. We had trouble at times hearing the explanation of the food. And if you offer the salad course with the amazing thin layer of pate again, be sure to pair it with a soft bread that can soak up the amazing flavors at the end. We nearly licked our plates! Ok, one of us actually licked our plate but I won’t tell who 😁 Well done Ambra.
My partner and I thought most of the food was outstanding, but I missed out on some of the dishes that other diners in the restaurant got because of my partner’s dietary preferences. I wish they could individually tailor their dishes to each guest rather than a group. The replacement dishes did not match the quality of the other items on the pre-fixe menu which was a shame because everything else was fantastic.
Our 4th time there and it's better than ever, if that's possible! We were a party of 4 celebrating 2 birhtdays. We did the wine pairings, which were perfect in every way. The service is impeccable, as is every single bite of food. The intimacy of the room makes it even more special. And the music - Motown, R&B, etc., makes this a true Philly experience. There's nothing like it.
The food is amazing and worth every penny! This is my second visit and I love how the menu changes.
Ambra is a hidden gem with a quiet elegant atmosphere to enjoy many courses of deliciousness. I give them especially high marks for being able to accommodating my inability to eat flour and sugar but still enabling me to try variations of the same dishes my friends were enjoying.
This was truly a unique and wonderful dining experience. The food was outstanding, with specialty combinations we have never tasted before. The chef's creativity is amazing, the service personal and attentive with a storied explanation of each plate as it arrived to the table. The wine we selected with the help of the staff was superb. This is a perfect restaurant for a special occasion; it made my birthday celebration truly memorable, right down to the sweet birthday plate presented at the conclusion of our meal.
2nd time to Ambra in 6 months: returned for my birthday after celebrating my daughter's 21stin April. Did not disappoint; truly wonderfully prepared food. My only comment is that even though each individual portion is relatively small (it's a multiple course tasting menu), this time we were more than full by the time dessert came around. I would have preferred to have one less course. Having said that, really pheomenal food and experience.
Very cozy setting makes you relax almost like you are in a spa. Service was excellent and they provided really delicious food.
What a wonderful dining experience!
Every detail thoughtfully executed.
The food was absolutely delicious.
The chef took into account our food issues/allergies and cooked accordingly for each of us.
Friendly, knowledgeable, and professional service.
Great service and fantastic food. This place made us fans!
Ambra is a superb restaurant, surely one of the 2 or 3 best restaurants in the city. The food and service were exemplary. And it was *quiet*.
Staff were awesome, flexible, friendly and very knowledgeable but the food, the food. Oh my. The food.
Amazing meal from start to finish. Incredible flavors and lovely presentation. Service was very good. It's a splurge meal, but you'll taste some great food that's unlike anywhere else in Philly.
Have you ever wanted a dining experience to never end? That is what dining at Ambra is like. Every course is amazing, creative, inspiring, delicious, & unique. You are excited for the next course to come out and can't imagine it being better than the last, but then it always is. Wine pairings are always on point too and really add to the different elements of the course. Wait staff are always friendly and welcoming. Highly recommend Ambra, and can't wait to go back!
The restaurant and food were excellent. However, the portions need to be a little bit bigger. I understand it s tasting menu, but the entrees need to last more than three small bites. The only other criticism is that there aren't any cocktails. The beer and wine choices were both unique and excellent, but it would have been nice to have a cocktail option. Overall this is a great restaurant and a great experience (amazing food!)
Outstanding dining experience. This restaurant is easily one of Philadelphia’s gems.
Had a great experience. Highlights were the pastas, the creative touches throughout our meal, and an excellent and off the beaten path wine pairing. The service was engaging as well, here and nextdoor at their sister bar Southwark.
No one in Philadelphia makes better pastas. Vetri is a peer. Everyone else is playing catch-up.
Our second time at Ambra in the past 3 months and it was great. Excellent experience - food, service, wine discussion, etc. Delicious and creative food and a pleasant and cozy and private ambiance.
It's all in the presentation and the food and the vino. A great experience. We'll worth it.
I went with my daughter. At the end, she said this might be the best restaurant meal she has ever eaten. The courses were really unique and fantastic. The wine pairings were outstanding. The service was also superb. A truly wonderful and memorable dinner.
Absolutely amazing. Dinner with the wine pairing was perfect.
Fantastic tasting menu. It is crazy that a few "hot" restaurants are impossible to get in to and this one, which is as good or better, is there for the taking.
Subject: Ambra: Paul's Birthday Dinner on July 12, 2018.
Ambra is listed as "Fine Dining." Wrong. It is EXQUISITE Dining.
Sensational cuisine, presentation, service, ambiance and decor. We hadn't had food like this since dining at the Eiffel Tower restaurant in Paris.
Ambra elevates traditional Italian fare to extraordinary heights with great imaginative panache, visual artistry and notably adventurous combining of flavors not normally mixed.
Ambra features a Tasting Menu paired with wines, all of which we happily embraced. Eight small plates arrived at our table at regular intervals, each course more beautiful and tasty than the last -- interspersed with four half-glasses of appropriate wines.
Ambra is tucked away on 4th Street near Bainbridge -- I've walked past its hefty wooden door many times without noticing it. Inside, it is decorated with great understated flair -- modern but not sterile. Lots of wood and controlled white fabric panels. Even the restroom is like artwork, with a sink embedded in a polished slab of wood. Ambra has 12 tables -- exclusive and intimate -- the perfect choice for Special Occasion dining.
Of the eight plates, only one displeased us. Given our different backgrounds, how surprising that Paul and I both disliked the same dish. The final course, called Smoked Stracciatella Cannoli, arrived in a cigar box. (I am not making this up.) Yes, it was sweet and mildly smoky.
The only downside is that it broke my bank account. Very pricey dining. We wonder how Ambra will survive. When Le Bec Fin was all the rage, it was in Center City where it could attract the affluent business traffic and tourist crowds from posh hotels. Ambra enjoys no such advantages, hidden away in our Queen Village neighborhood, and its price range is nearly prohibitive except for the occasional important outing.
So if you live in Philly, find a reason to go NOW, while its still exists. We were thrilled with Ambra's "Experiential Dining." Truly, Delaney.
We had a wonderful time at Ambra. The food was delicious and the wine pairing was amazing. It's definitely worth the experience and I hope to go again soon.
The food was excellent. Wanted it to be more of a special experience though along the lines of Vetri or Talula’s though and it was not. It felt s little bit rushed.
