My husband and I came here on a date. The location is amazing and the view can’t be beat, but the food was subpar and the service was average. The cheese and charcuterie board was warm and tasted like it had been sitting out for a couple hours, and while the entrées were tasty, I would expect better food and service for the price.
Celebrated my cousins birthday and the staff did not disappoint. Special thanks to Lamont and his staff for an enjoyable dinning experience
Like many restaurants with a beautiful view and waterfront seating, they rely on that as the selling point. The food isn't great, service is pretty good and the view is amazing. They had nice live music. A great place to just enjoy cocktails.
The food was great from appetizers to dessert! I would highly recommend this restaurant and I look forward to going back.
Our server Will was awesome! He has a very good vibe and cares about the customer experience. Food was tasty, and the cocktails were great. We will definitely come back, the harbor views were amazing.
Sat inside. Flies and gnats were literally attacking our food and us the entire meal. Neither the waitress nor the bus boy did anything about it. I’ve never complained at a restaurant in my life but this was beyond ridiculous.
We sat on the patio and the view was beautiful. I got the crab cakes and they were the best I have ever had.
We obtained wonderful service by everyone we came in contact with. Our waitress was excellent and very personal and observant.
The food is very bland. Beautiful view on the water but it took forever for me to receive my food. The restaurant was not high volume but it took 50 mins for my salmon. I never received my appetizer and my food came out cold. The bus boys are more attentive than the serves
Oysters are my favorite! Food is incredible but takes forever to arrive.
Our first, but not our last, visit. The appetizers are amazing, especially the seafood dip served with a giant soft pretzel. The mussels were also delicious. For the main course the crab cake was very good, but not great. It had a good flavor, but was slightly overcooked, making it a little dry. Our waitress was helpful and sweet. We would definitely return and try other things. But, it will be difficult to resist the seafood dip appetizer.
Location is great! Ambiance (indoors)is ok, outdoors in the evening is much better. Three pesky flies served as an irritant. I started with the watermelon salad which I highly recommend. The crab cake was delicious, but a little moist on the inside. The jicama fries should be traded out for regular fries. The lobster roll was very dry so we substituted it for the scallops which were delicious! A little pricey for the experience but I would have to recommend this restaurant if you’re interested. Also, gratuities are automatically placed on bill which to me don’t give incentives for the wait staff to be great. Our water glass was filled without any ice and never refilled through dinner.
Great waterfront view with a quiet ambience for a dinner for two. Dinner was excellent and fresh. Fast service but not "bugging you" fast. Would visit again !
We had an amazing dinner for our friends birthday. Sitting out on the water even on a hot summer day was beautiful and comfortable. The food was delicious. Our server was really sweet and wonderful. She went out of her way to make sure we were comfortable. My only complaint was that the food was slow coming out of the kitchen. Our server did her best to cover for the slowness of the food arrival by checking on us several times and making sure we were okay if we needed anything . Overall we had a really wonderful time and would come again.
We were celebrating our 7yr wedding anniversary and I wanted somewhere different neither of us have been. Somewhere not to fancy, but very relaxing and casual. I must say we made a great choice. The staff was very friendly, the food was great, prices were reasonable (that wasn’t a factor though), great customer service and the view was breathtaking. It was so nice to sit outside right alongside the water. Everything was perfect and we throughly enjoyed our anniversary dinner.
Great service, good prices and better ambiance. We’ll definitely be back in the near future.
We have been eating here for more than a decade — dozens of visits — and we never left disappointed. Our visits to Baltimore are mostly summertime weekend getaways, so we fell in love with the incomparable harbor view immediately. But that’s not the only show at Ampersea. No matter what meal we show up for, there’s always an interesting, seasonal menu and everything we order is prepared to perfection. The wait staff is professional and accommodating — even when I request a modified preparation for my cocktail :). Now, they expanded their outdoor seating and added a complete outdoor bar, which makes a great place to hang out for the afternoon, especially when the live music is playing.
We went to AmperSea for brunch. The food was excellent, the service wonderful, staff was friendly, and the waterside setting was beautiful.
We were sat in a very tight corner behind another party and it was very uncomfortable. The chicken which is normally delicious was not good and the waiter had to hey permission from the manager before swapping it out for something else. Service was mediocre and with dining with children and a toddler our waiter was often gone for long stretches of time.
I really wanted to like this place and wanted to try it since moving here a year ago. Seems like experiences from reviewers are hit or miss though. Ours was definitely a miss. Our OpenTable reservation worked well. We were seated outside on the water after we arrived which was the best part. It was all downhill from there. We ordered drinks and an appetizer to start then a few minutes later put our entrees in. We got our drinks, but after an hour still had not got any food. The waitress apologized and said the kitchen was backed up and offered us a second round. Another 40 minutes passed and then she sent someone to the kitchen to check on the food. They brought out the entrees completely bypassing the appetizer. Meanwhile, the person in charge (either the owner or high level manager) who was wooing a table of VIPs or friends seemed pretty unconcerned when an employee told him about the situation (not to mention they got their food even though putting in the order later...the excuses seemed suspect). Another employee/manager came to talk to us, offering free dessert. Being late and having to work early the next day, we declined and instead asked to have the mandatory gratuity waived as the service did not justify that charge. I feel bad as I don't know how much was the waitresses fault, but honestly if it wasn't, it is a management problem and she should probably find a job where she gets more support. My impression was that owner/manager seemed complacent by the service issues which don't appear uncommon based upon other reviews (google, yelp, etc.). As I said, it appears to be hit or miss. But when you have so many excellent options for dining in Baltimore with equivalent views, why subject yourself to that level of service. For that, I cannot recommend this place and will not go back.
Signature tequila cocktail too sweet. Stick with wine selection and you're fine
We enjoyed our food, it was really tasty, however it took a long time to receive our dinner. My food was also room temperature. I mentioned it to our waitress but decided against it sending it back because I did not want to wait.
The location on the water cannot be understated. Had the best seat in the house on the corner. Service was stellar. They wouldnt seat us without the whole party there so that was the only gripe i had. Overall i would go again. Drink menu could use some more options. Food was very satisfying with big portions.
Brunch- outside super cute love the new tent put in place very nice and peaceful food is always great
Nice place. Food was good, prices seem fair. Service was slow. The restaurant felt understaffed. Our sever was really nice, and the slow service was certainly not her fault, she had little help. I gave her a big tip because I felt sorry for her.
My mother wanted "a seafood dinner on the harbor" for her birthday, and Ampersea was the perfect choice. It was a little too warm for us to sit outside - but we will definitely return in cooler weather! The staff was attentive but not overbearing, the food was absolutely delicious, and we very much appreciated our conversation with John, the manager, about the restaurant's partnership with Living Classrooms and the opportunities and community support it provides. The only negative point was that, since the doors were open so staff could serve both inside and outside, there were a few insects flying around -- annoying, but also not something anyone could prevent. We enjoyed ourselves, and will definitely be back!
Great Resturant. We sat outside in a garden area with view of the water. Our table was covered which was good as it rained. We did not get wet at all. There was an outside bar. Great food, great atmosphere, and outstanding view.
We were first time customers and we enjoyed the entire experience-staff was friendly, food was awesome and ambiance was wonderful :-)
Love the music ambience and water views
Our server was absolutely amazing and made the whole experience very enjoyable. Beautiful view, amazing food, and great service!
Food was amazing and service was great! We will be back again!
Great food. Great service. Great VIEW!
One thing I noticed was the diversity of the staff. It’s not typical that staff is as diverse in Baltimore’s Downtown restaurants. Thank you for this.
Ordered the raw oysters but there was a hair on one of the lemon wedges. Sent it back and they gave us a new plate. Salmon dish was good. However, the food did not sit well with me after I left the restaurant.
I loved everything about this restaurant from the ambiance to the amazing food to the wonderful service. 10/10 I will definitely be returning
While we enjoyed the ambience right on the water, and some of our food was delicious (the seafood dip was fun, scallops themselves were perfectly cooked, and the short rib meal was good), overall we had many complaints that would cause my to NOT recommend this restaurant to others. Three of four total main dishes and broccolini on the side and each serving was grossly undercooked. We literally couldn't cut it with forks and knives, and trying to chew it was very unpleasant. We informed our server and he brought out a new serving from the kitchen, which was just as tough and inedible. Our server also repeatedly disappeared. I had to request water for a later member of our 4 person party three separate times. After dropping off the second round of broccolini, he didn't return to check in and see if it was better. I ended up having to find a manager myself to show him the state of the inedible food, and explain out dissatisfaction. We're a friendly, laid back group, but when you're spending over $250 for a dinner out, you expect every portion of the meals to be well cooked and delicious. The manager ended up sending us three free desserts and taking 20% off the bill, but with so many good restaurants in Baltimore, I will likely never return to Ampersea after this experience.
Great views, and excellent service. The food was a little pricey, but solid.
The staff was very attentive. The view and setting was gorgeous. The food is also pretty good. The only thing is that because there’s a door that leads to outdoor seating, there were a lot of flies flying around inside
Beautiful spot on the water. I feel you are paying more for the experience & location than for the food, which was good but not outstanding.
