A very comfortable venue with friendly and attentive service, and great food
We went to celebrate a birthday. The food was amazing. All the staff couldn’t have been nicer. Highly recommend going for any occasion. I definitely recommend the potatoes brava. The pizza is incredible. The mussels tapa, gnocchi tapa, and shrimp tapas are all fantastic. Definitely coming back ASAP.
Great food and service! The best we've had in Westport ever!
Robin is a pro. The service was friendly and helpful all around. The food was out of this world. Thank you Renato! Just an awesome atmosphere to have a great meal and some wine.
Music way too loud. Could barely hear our selves speak
When I walked in I immediately wanted to like this place. Our server was great and the wine list had a lot of reasonably priced options. It failed on the food. All the right ingredients but each dish was lacking in flavor with the exception of the roasted potatoes that were swimming in garlic. Cool space but they need a new chef
We had a great dinner at Basso tonight. Staff was incredibly friendly and service was sensational. Each waitstaff checked in on us and were constantly filling our water glasses and asking how each course was. Our waiter, Robin had a great personality and was so much fun. He too kept asking how we were enjoying ourselves. The food was AMAZING. We were a party of three and each of us loved our appetizers and second course. The salads are extremely fresh, flavorful and a very large portion. Second courses were the Osso Bucco, Seafood over pasta and the Hangar steak. All were large portions packed with flavor and high quality. We will definitely be back to have another fabulous night of great service and quality cuisine. Basso is a great addition to Westport. We are happy to have you here!
Wonderful food and service. Drinks were very inventive, though expensive! Nice decor. Not loud at all. Paella for two was fantastic!
One of my favorite restaurants in Fairfield County. Food is consistently great and the ambience is wonderful. They have a two piece jazz ensemble some nights who play quality music. Staff is friendly and very accommodating.
We had a great meal, food was delicious, service was great!
Awesome food! Paella is amazing! Potatoes brava are maybe the best thing I’ve ever eaten - go with a group and order everything! YUM
Our experience at Basso was excellent. It was our first time there and we will be back. The service and food were outstanding and the cocktail menu/bar is extensive with well made drinks. Keep up the great work!
Great food, great friendly service.
Second time enjoying this restaurant. Tappas didn’t disappoint. We were celebrating two birthdays so the lava cakes for dessert made the night even more special.
I should start out by saying we are HUGE fans of Basso having first eaten at their prior location in Norwalk over 10 years ago. And regularly do take out from this new location in Westport since it first opened.
So it is with some disappointment that I have to write our most recent experience left something to be desired when it comes to service. Things started off amazingly with the rapid succession of 10 small plates coming to our table in perfect timing as our party of four finished those already on the table. However when we order our second round the wait was uncharacteristically long. The same happened with our drink refresh and finally as we considered dessert.
As the restaurant got progressively crowded as the evening wore on I can only surmise they were overwhelmed by the volume and perhaps we short-staffed in the back. While it won't keep us from going back, I also can't ignore the lapse.
This was our 1st time post-pandemic that we had both good food AND good service at the same time. The team at BASSO could not have been nicer & more attentive. The food was great. Very tasty and flavorful. The only comment is that we felt portions were small and a tad expensive for what you got. It was most noticeable with the risotto dish. Beautifully presented but the actual amount of risotto was probably an ice cream scoop & 1/2 and the entree was $32. Granted it included Saffron (a very expensive spice). The tuna coca was excellent and plentiful, however thought maybe it should be $13-$15. However, I will order it again.
But overall, if prices were about $5 less expensive, it would be perfect and would have given a 5-star rating. Still, I'll go back. Yummy.
We have eaten at the previous Norwalk location, and now the new space in Westport. We have always liked the food - wide selection of well-prepared, nicely presented small and large plates. The plus this time was hosting live music, a return of live jazz to the area. What a perfect space for it! Big enough that the music was always present and not overwhelming. The staff stretched a bit thin because of COVID, but they were gracious in handling the large crowd.
Great service and great place for drinks and tapas. Perfect addition to Westport food scene. Don’t miss the Iberico! Can’t wait to go back!
We sat outside, where there are a few tables with umbrellas. The food was excellent. The waiter was terrific, checking with us from time to time to find out if we needed anything. The chef came outside to tell us about the dish my friend ordered. We intend to go back.
15 minutes to get a menu, and after a 30 minute wait for drinks we were told that the wine we ordered was not available- we left. Miss the old staff and location in Norwalk; used to be a favorite restaurant.
While the food was great, sitting outside on uncomfortable plastic chairs on a slope was not the best. The service was terrible. Every table around us, including ours had food items that were ordered but not delivered and the waitstaff kept saying “that was my fault”. It’s great that they took responsibility for it, but it happened at every table. Then we all had to wait at least an additional so 30 minutes fir the forgotten dishes to be delivered. Also, when we asked our waiter questions about the menu he didn’t j is the answer and didn’t even try to find out fir us. No offer of compensation was made for the additional wait times, etc It was quite a disappointment. I understand that it’s difficult for restaurants to hire right now. But it just seemed that there were too many mistakes at all of the tables around us and the staff was very overwhelmed
Tapas were very good but some portions were small, Entrees were good size. Out door patio is uneven, tough to balance wine glasses, inside looked great… we opted for outside in our reservation ahead of time
Went to Basso Saturday evening. Place was dark and a noisy ladies table was next to,us. No specials. Caesar salad was tasteless. Branzino was overcooked. Service, was, spotty. They admitted they were short staffed.
Our first visit. Very different and enjoyable, especially the “small plates” of Med food.
Disappointed to see limited menu items on a Wednesday night - no pizza, only one fish option, etc.
Loved the food--really delicious! The upper level where we were was very hot and noisy. Also, the staff, while trying very hard to do well, were just not able to keep up with the size of the crowd, keep orders straight, get the checks to the tables on time, etc. I know all restaurants are short handed now, so hoping eventually this service problem will be solved. We loved ever dish that came to the table.
From service to dessert, Basso Restaurant & Wine Bar is the place to be. The owners are outstanding, the waitstaff and bartenders are professionals and the food is on par with the finest in NYC.
Wonderful menu with large variety of options. Food is delicious and often imaginative. Basso has become a favorite of ours.
Good experience overall, wait staff was friendly and attentive. Diverse menu to accommodate peoples' needs.
BEWARE IF YOU HAVE FOOD ALLERGIES. They served us the wrong appetizer. There are a few different potato dishes on the menu. I had ordered a gluten-free one because I have a gluten allergy, and they served us one that was not gluten-free. After we ate it, a server came to our table with the correct appetizer, and it was only then I realized what happened. They were apologetic, but TWICE more that evening, a server tried to give us the wrong food, and only when we said that isn't what we ordered, they looked around for the correct table. And when the bill came, they CHARGED ME for the potato dish.
Luckily my allergy is not life-threatening, but this situation could have been way worse.
The $16 cocktails are tiny and not worth the price.
The main dishes were tasty, which is the only reason this review isn't 1 star.
Gave our apps to the wrong table. That person ended up being gluten free and eating our croquettes thinking they were the potatoes. She was very upset knowing she’s be sick. Waited a long time for our meal. They tried to give our meals to the same couple. My husband’s lamb came more well than medium rare and my cavitelli chicken scarpiello seemed like it was under the warmer for awhile. Sad to say we won’t be back. Mediterranean margarita was awful.
We love this restaurant. Amazingly food. Chef Renato’s cooking is out of this world. Everything is delicious. The service is very good. Everyone is SO friendly. You are NOT rushed. Lots of good energy. Basso’s is a keeper.
Food is always excellent. Our new favorite restaurant!
A real find if you are a foodie. Wonderful & creative selections of both "small plates" and large. Knowledgeable and attentive staff, excellent drink, beer & wine selections.
Paella was outstanding! Service was terrific.
Delish small plates! Unfortunately the pizza oven is currently closed since it generates too much heat for the AC to handle in these sweltering temps.
Fabulous restaurant! The food is delicious and the space is great. Amazing chef and I can’t wait to go back!
Service was outstanding. Food could have been better. Need bread to be served with dishes with sauce. Don’t offer $10.00 bruschetta as the only choice. Put on a $2.00 bread charge if necessary. Add more sauce to tortilla tapas and ham croquette. Put more flavor on broccoli. Hangar steak was delicious. This could become a great place.
