Great space with great food.
Nice place but most the items are extremely expensive. The quality of the items are high
Hands down some of the best food I’ve ever had. Also, I don’t think I can eat store bought hummus anymore.
Lives up to the hype.
Great restaurant. Staff loves and cares about their food. Don't love the noise or the fact there was a 20 minute wait with a reservation. Also didn't LOVE that they ran out of 2 very popular dishes and we were NOT there very late (845 PM reservation).
Overall, the experience was ok. Quality of food was good though wished I had larger portions.
Service was generally OK. Our server clearly didn't care about our table when we declined to order alcohol. C'est la vie, though it was very funny.
Hostess was very kind to change our table as we started off right next to the kitchen....our side booth was the best seat in the house and we really appreciated it. Our waiter presented himself and we ordered mineral water - he made a point of telling us we would be charged $1 per person (I bring this up for a reason) . The sommelier was nice but a little too salesman-like in his approach....we ordered two bottles of the cheapest (at $64 a bottle) white, which was a lovely wine.....our waiter excited us with the steak special, but neglected to tell us it was $150; along with our other food, it was very good but we might not have ordered it at that price. Thus, there was some sticker shock when our bill arrived thanks to the steak-price oversight on his part. Bavel is a sort of hot-spot currently, but it's super-noisy unless one is seated where we were or in the outdoor area....atmosphere is fun, but frankly I feel the food is overpriced in general - could have made that hummus myself as well as the salad.....wine list is unnecessarily pricey in general. The busboys are great and pay more attention to a table than the waitstaff.
The best meal I’ve had in 5 years
The hostess was quite possibly the most rude restaurant employe I have ever encountered. When we arrived, our table was not ready, so we were directed to go have a drink at the bar and they would come get us when it was ready. While ordering our drinks the hostess came up and asked us to follow her to the table. I informed her we had not yet finished ordering and we would come get her once we had our drinks. She rudely insisted that we needed to follow her immediately and that she would have the drinks brought to our table. Again I informed her our wives had not ordered yet and that we would come find her ASAP. She walked away, and came back 1 minute later insisting we follow her to the table. Again I informed her that the two ladies in our party had not ordered their drink yet. She then said that many people were "eyeing our table" and that she could not guarantee it would be available if we waited any longer. I made this reservation a month in advance. Guests should never be treated this way....but especially those that have gone this far out of their way to have dinner at a certain restaurant. I informed her this was the rudest I have ever been treated at a restaurant, and she rudely walked away again. Completely unacceptable treatment of a customer, who had done nothing but follow her initial request for us to go order a drink at the bar. Thankfully, the sommelier seated us and gave us an incredible run down of the menu. The restaurant is designed beautifully, but is insanely loud. We had to shout to hear each other talk. The two appetizers we had were inventive and delicious (scallops crudo and asian pear salad). That tomahawk steak special was very good, not great....especially for the price, and the stuffed fish was a total miss. We had two desserts (donuts were inedible they tasted so bad...and strawberry tart tasted store bought at best) The bill was $375 per couple and we brought our own wine. In short, way overpriced for what we got.
We had my wife's birthday at Bavel. It was a remarkable food experience with small and large dishes full of flavors. The service was just perfect, our server had a lot of little thoughtful attentions but not too much on top of us and not pressuring us to order.
Been here 3 times. Amazing flavors. Oyster Mushroom Kebab is my favorite, and the following are fantastic too: Baba Ghanoush, Cucumber Pear Salad, Lamb Flatbread, Licorice Root Ice Cream Bon Bon
Sensational meal. Though it's overwhelmingly loud, it's a festive amazing hummus, lamb neck, and grilled oyster mushrooms. Amazing meal - every course was better than the last. The patio is a bit, well, patio-y, but the inside is nice with plants hanging from the ceiling, a wide open floor plan + views into the kitchen, and plenty of communal tables. Make a reservation, though - this place is packed!!!
We came to celebrate a birthday and was not acknowledged. An appetizer was missed and was charged for it. We didn’t realize until after we paid and left: We were quite disappointed as we were looking forward to that dish.
After having hummus at Bavel, I can’t eat Sabra anymore!
Parking valet was easy and pleasant. Greeted “nicely” by the hostesses.... felt like we’re being profiled though.
the millennial crowd goes inside and the semi millennial goes outside on the makeshift extension of the restaurant/overflow.
Cauliflower is a must.
lamb chop, fish (entree is mediocre.
Robert— first server was very pleasant and accommodating as finding out our dietary restrictions.
Had to move to a different table and server due to the ceiling heater was too hot for my momma.
duck hummus was good but crudo was definitely better (clean, simple, classic and delicious)
Good vodka selection.
Truly exceptional and worthy of the acclaim that the restaurant is getting. Standouts include the fried quail and duck - the confit, grilled meat, and duck broth were perfectly done. Great vibe in the restaurant as well. The staff was first class; they just look like they are having fun. Kudos to the work done by the management to hire and train.
After eating at Bestia, and enjoying it, we decided to try Bavel, a new dining experience from the same owners. It's very similar and style and ambience as Bestia, but more lighting and plants hanging down among the main restaurant floor. Music is great, service is pretty good, and the food is delicious. However, after seeing Bavel was named Eater's 2018 best restaurant in LA award, we came in with high expectations. We are also vegetarians, so our menu options were limited, and we were told that there are many recommended meat dishes on the menu. The vegetarian options (Baba Ganoush, roasted cauliflower, veggie flatbreads, etc.) were all delicious, but also pricy. I'm also a fan of middle eastern food and have had better middle eastern food at other places in LA at more reasonable prices. Overall, we recommend you check out this new LA hot spot, but be prepared to spend a lot for what you're getting.
Food was great, service was great however they set us at a table by the bar which was very uncomfortable. Ruined the experience
Food is fantastic and service is fantastic
Excellent food and service. Very fresh flavors. Will definitely go back. Really enjoyed it
Food was not worth the price.
The service at the front desk is terrible.
Loved the food! Didn’t like sitting outside, but they eventually moved us inside so that worked!
Food was Excellent but the restaurant was cold temperature and very loud. Conversation difficult we were a party of 2 so could talk some noticed larger groups couldn’t converse beyond who was sitting next to each other. In construction industry ear protection would be required for employees at these noise levels.
I was lucky to get to go with a group of 5 so we ordered from all categories and everything was outstanding. Stand outs for me: best hummus ever! persimmon and cucumber salad, spicy sun chokes, the whole fish and pretty much all the desserts esp the licorice bonbon and the tapioca pudding! Excellent wine pairings (lots of rose) offered by knowlegeable sommelier.
Amazing food. I will definitely go back when I am looking for new-wave middle eastern food with flare!
In order to have a good experience, you really must sit in the main restaurant, not the isolated patio that gives you a cafeteria feeling
The restaurant is very professionally run, but the food is absolutely not worth the prices. And regardless of price, the food just wasn't very good.
i was reservation table but so long time wait for table
i thought over booked
also order foods then a lot pending or delaying to service
This place is by far one of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to, the food is exceptional and the ambience is exquisite. The food is so unique and impressive, I don’t ever get tired of dining here.
Every dish was full of flavor and well balanced. Great place for foodies and the wine selection is quite unique.
Great vibe great music great food. Better for meat eaters than vegetarians
Great restaurant! Great vibe! Food was very filling and tasty
2nd time there was just as good if not better than the first time. Grilled prawns, babaganoush, lamb neck shwarma and the coconut tapioca pudding was beyond excellent. The pita and hummus is the beat we’ve ever had too. A must try!
Lovely evening with friends and a great meal.
We arrived on time for our 8pm reservation and the place was crazy busy and loud.
There is no where to wait to be seated, and the bar service was virtually non existent unless you were seated there.
We tried to get drinks for 25 minutes and finally after being pushed and shoved for way too long, I returned to the hostess desk to continue the wait for our table.
So, after a 30 minute wait we were seated (thank God), and from there things got better.
The service is great, the food very good but you can not hear anyone say anything!
Couldn't hear the waiter, couldn't hear the guest we were with.
They need to spend a few bucks and fix the rawness of the patio space which may help the noise.
95% of the diners are young hipsters, and I felt old and uncomfortable in the environment actually.
But the food and the service were worth it as our quest is a foodie and loved it.
Food was good but a little pricey. Serving sizes were small but each one was pretty. Was a little surprised with all the hype..thought it would be outstanding! Rather go to Bestia!
what is there to say? you have to try it, its incredible.
