Beauty & Essex- New York
The atmosphere of the space is both grand and intimate, moody and effervescent. Various rooms for lounging and dining unfold on two floors, like a large turn-of-the-century townhouse. Each room has its own unique elements that celebrate timeless jewelry designs and upscale jewelry stores.
The cuisine is multi-ethnic in inspiration, casually elegant, and designed for sharing at the table among friends and family. Where the Stanton Social"s menu is Chef Chris Santos' take on cocktail party classics and street foods from across the globe, Beauty & Essex is rooted in a bold bistro direction focusing on the reinvention of modern family style dining that is both whimsical and sophisticated.
This is our go to restaurant while in NYC. Reservations are highly recommended. Great atmosphere with a nice up beat vibe. Entering through the back door of the “pawn shop” makes you feel as if your the cats meow. The staff is attentive and responsive to any question or request. The food... impeccable. Family style allows you to sample everything from kale salad, Grilled cheese dumplings, & beef ribeye tacos to name a few. Something for anyone and everyone to easily make a glutton of them selves.
Great spot for a nice night out with your significant other or just a fun night out with friends.
My boyfriend and I cane to celebrate his birthday. I have dined here before and this time certainly did not disappoint. The ambiance is one of my favorites and the food was spectacular. We started with the tomato soup and grilled cheese dumplings which were to die for. The 24 oz ribeye was one of the best we have had in the city. Even ended the evening with a birthday cupcake with a candle to remember this special night. Can’t wait to come back!
Brunch was amazing! We had multiple items and enjoyed all of them, chocolate croissants, chicken biscuit, and my favorite was the grilled cheese and tomato soup (which is not the name on the menu)
Best place I’ve ever been! Great atmosphere and food!
Got engaged!!!!! 💍💍🖤❤️🖤❤️🖤
if you are looking for a lively night out, don't go on a M-T-W. they close early those nights and it was empty by 10:30 pm - maybe 4-5 tables were taken. So while it was low energy, our waitress was knowledgeable and so helpful in recommending other places to go since B&E was closing. Food, as always, was delish and presented in a fa fun way. Make sure to order the grilled cheese dumplings to start and finish with the black bottom butterscotch pot de creme! One of the best dessert in the land!
We come to Beauty & Essex every time were are in the city! It’s our favorite!!!
food was excellent! Order the lobster mac and cheese for sure! Fish taco was divine!
Great restaurant, lovely food and amazing cocktails.
Very hip! Tasty eats and yummy drinks!
Excellent all around. very impressed with the food, the service and the ambiance.
Great drinks and ambience
The place and the service are amazing but the food not so good.
The ambiance is lovely. The staff greets everyone and is sweet and helpful. The food is really good, small portions, which is great if you want to share plates and taste many different things.
I didn't expect much, because our search was just for anything open after 10pm on a Monday downtown. Open Table said Tapas Place and I picked it. Right off the bat, we were confused because the entrance is through a pawn shop. But once you realize that's intentional, it's pretty cool. Everything was great. It's dark and nicely decorated in a dimly lit glam kind of way. Service and food especially good. Our waitress offered us suggestions and explained the portions (all are family style but some large and some small). We wanted small, so we chose 4 items. We forgot to order something and she offered to get it for us even after the kitchen had closed. They coursed our meal without us even asking for that. We never felt rushed even though we arrived after 10 and as a result were among the last few tables. They replaced our plates and silverware like 5 different times. The staff is on it and the team in the kitchen knows what they are doing as well. BONUS: Free champagne bar in the lady's room!?! All that, and under $200. Couldn't believe it wasn't more. LOVE.
Very cool vibe which begins when you first open the door. Fantastic design throughout the restaurant and wonderfully creative food and drink options. We began with the tuna poke tacos which were very tasty and the grilled cheese tomato soup dumplings which everyone agreed were excellent. We also tried the burger which, again, everyone loved. The service was spot on as our waitress was very unique and matched the whole vibe.
We had a 6:00 reservation on a Sunday evening for a very special anniversary. We arrived 10 minutes early and there was a party going on upstairs that had music playing that could be heard in outer space. I'm sorry but this was supposed to be a fine dinning spot, not a disco. I had to scream above the sound to announce ourselves, and they had to scream back to acknowledge us and tell us to wait to be seated in which case they then forgot about us. When we went looking for them, they did seat us as close to the party as possible so I asked nicely to be seated down in back for some respite from the music. She informed me that was not possible, as that space was for people with reservations. HELLO !!, we have reservations I said, but that's when the deer in the head light stare took over. She called her boss for permission to move us, but he could not hear his phone due to the music level so she just gave up. I explained I couldn't eat under all this noise, you couldn't even speak to each other without screaming. I said I would have to leave and she just stood there. We peacefully put our coats on and left without anyone even trying to repair the situation. The next day they emailed to ask how we enjoyed the experience. Are they kidding??. We came from out of state for this occasion and this is what we got. There are many great food spots in NYC and I choose that S--T hole. They have no class. Don't waste your time or money there. As I said, there are many truly great ones out there. Their not one!! You enter through a Pawn Shop as a novelty, but in reality they operate with all of the class of a Pawn Shop, so I now understand the Pawn Shop connection.
It was wonderful the staff was amazing and pleasant but didnt pay enough attention to check if we needed anything at least thats what my girlfriend said i didnt mind. I was very impressed with the pastrami Mac cheese i would have never imagined that combination tasting so divine. I have to mention the eggplant pizza I enjoyed it but it could have been warmer And i have to mention the ladies of the staff was cute which is always a plus will definitely come back ....almost forgot👌🏽 primo drinks i thought the price was a bit much but they were made well with good liquor
Awesome place/food/service...just really loud
Amazing. Food place, serve, people, music... all was perfect
I had not been to Beauty & Essex for a few years. My past experience at the restaurant was excellent...great food, drinks and ambience.
At my most recent visit to Beauty and Essex, the food was not great, the mediocre drinks were overpriced, the service left much to be desired and the ambiance was too loud. It felt too much like a club and it was missing the high-class feel. We could not hear the waitress when she spoke to us, causing a lot of confusion throughout the meal. The restaurant was not worth the trip or the money...I would recommend eating somewhere else.
Very nice place. Great atmosphere. Food was Delicious! Second time here and will be back again!
Very little portions for a very expensive meal, we were told there's a dress code and everyone was in jeans the brunch wasn't what we expected either ... service is slow too
I think it’s higly overpriced and the service is really slow. I’d say go for brunch but maybe skip on the drinks. It’s ridic how much you pay for ONE mimosa where you can get them anywhere on the LES for much less. I like the brunch menu. Been there for dinner and was NOT impressed with the food at all. The fish tacos are soooo good and the chicken biscuits. Can’t go there without ordering those two plates. They’re my favorite.
Amazing wish we had one in Georgia
This is one of my favorite restaurants in NYC. The tomato soup dumpling is the best dish on the menu. Also got the pastrami style beef and the tuna tacos from the raw bar which were absolutely fantastic.
Awesome! The food was amazing!! As usual!
Don’t let the non descriptive exterior fool you. Very nice inside and excellent food.
Cool as @..k
This was by far the best meal we’ve had in NYC!!!!! The free champagne in the women’s bathroom was such a fun treat and all of the food was amazing! Highly recommend!!!
Went here with family to celebrate wife’s birthday. Very good experience - food and service were very good. Especially like the share plate concept.
Wide and varied range of choices
Very creative and unique food preparation
Not just the “same ole thing”
Always love my experience at B&E! Great for special occasions! Food is always delicious and service outstanding!
My 2nd time here. Very creative chef and very good food. Salmon tartar and seared tuna were standouts.
I loved the way Beauty and essex looked but I was very disappointed in the food portions. I paid 22$ for 6 raviolis. That’s ridiculous
Great atmosphere and food, very joyful people, stunning decoration !
Beauty & Essex is a hidden gem on the other side of a pawn shop. The vibe in the restaurant is great, but don’t plan to have quiet, intimate conversations. This is a place you go to enjoy great music, great energy and great food! They offer vegan and gluten free options so your whole party should be easy to please. Enjoy!
Beautiful hidden gem , character and mistique, beautiful people and a club vibe
I loved the ambiance, the service and the birthday cupcake!
