In New York, guests enjoy a warm and authentic experience and a menu filled with traditional bistro dishes with a modern flair. In 2016, the restaurant underwent a renovation, bringing a contemporary New York City touch to the classic French restaurant.

We dined there before the Met.
We were so looking forward to some French cuisine... but were disappointed with the food! Nice, decore, ambiance, wait staff. The food was sub-par and over priced for French cuisine. I had the chicken which was dry and non-descript. Gravy came on the side and i could have used twice as much! It came with French fries (pommes frites) which is odd for a white-linen restaurant. My husband had the salmon which too was disappointing and lacked flavor.
Sadly will not be returning.
Very few restaurants still have quenelles on the menu. Although they have changed the recipe, the quenelles are still wonderful. For me, this is the ultimate French soul food. In order to not lessen their enjoyment, we passed on appetizers which looked wonderful and quite reasonable. The wine list allows one to choose a very palatible wine at a range of price points. Our desserts....baba with armagnac and chestnut Mont Blanc were yummy. The service is attentive, professional, and unobtrusive. This is a wonderful spot at which to dine.
I love this restaurant, classic French food done well. The only thing I was unhappy about was they did not serve the regular menu Valentine’s Day night. We had to order the $106 pre fix when we really wanted escargot, a cheese board, and steaks. We wouldn’t spent more then $106 per person by we had to order the prefix and they did not offer anything else. Over all it was great food just not what we wanted. They should’ve had the full menu and offered the prefix as an option instead.
One of Michelin 3-star chef Alain Ducasse's lesser but still formidable restaurants with authentic cooking and service with a flair. The Valentine Day's menu was a 5-course tasting affair with wine (extra) or without. A delightful experience!
The freshly baked Madeleines were a perfect finish to our spectacular cassoulet. We will return very soon
I love the quenelles which were very good. My friend had half a roast chicken and thought it was dry, so I took most of it home. I thought it was good!
If you're hungry, you'll definitely be in the wrong place.
I ordered from the main course the cod, which besides being very small had no flavor. The dishes are very expensive for what they serve.
For the price they charge I honestly expected much more from the restaurant, a shame!

Went in NY restaurant week so had a real treat at an excellent cost! Food and service were excellent and thought the atmosphere was quite buzzy but still romantic. Lovely french styling and thought the extras (bread/ little cheese puffs/warm madeleines) were fabulous touches. Would definitely come again.

My husband and I chose Benoit for our pre-Met Opera dinner because of its location near the University Club. The service was excellent. The attentive staff were aware we needed to be on our way by 7:00 and made sure we were still able to enjoy a leisurely dinner. We ordered three hors d'oeuvres, the egg mayo (a creamy, simple take on a deviled egg) and the sea bream crudo and rabbit porchetta, both with delicate, herb-flavored sauces. I opted for the quenelles de brochet as my main course. I was surprised when our waiter recommended that I not order an appetizer because the quenelles portion was substantial. He was absolutely right and I was grateful. The quenelles were feather light with a surprise interior. Delicious. My husband had beautiful small oysters as an appetizer. His calf liver (foie de veau) was perfectly medium rare as requested. By the time we left at 7:00 the restaurant was quite full with a lively buzz but not too noisy.
An elegant reliably upscale and not pretentious restaurant.

Our second visit; our first was memorable so decided to go for brunch. We were not disappointed. Service excellent. Food perfectly cooked and presented. Onion soup fabulous - and enough for two - or merely get soup and salad. Chicken was moist, flavorful.
Benoit is one of our favorite post Carnegie Hall Concert restaurants. The dinner rush is winding down when we arrive. Full menu available. Relaxed atmosphere. Really like the traditional roasted chicken with frites, steak au poivre, excellent pate. Great bread. Good baba au rhum. Strong wine list. A fine way to top off a good concert.
I have been to this restaurant twice in the last 6 months. First time was excellent, this time was not. The wine list is excellent and the sommelier did a nice job selecting a burgundy for the meal. Service was outstanding and we were will cared for. My sweetbreads were not great and the truffle addition was with truffles that were no longer fragrant, so disappointing. My guest had chicken, which they thought was outstanding, and the table side preparation was a nice touch. Also, one diner had the duck, which was excellent, if a modest portion. Appetizers were wonderful, while desert was OK (the crème Brule was overly sweet). At this price point I expect excellence across the board. Perhaps an off night.
Very good French bistro food, but the service was slow. One of our party had to ask for milk for her tea three times.
Do yourself a favor and go to another restaurant. First, the portions are very small. Second the waiters could not even accurately describe the dish. I had the "cookpot" which, as it turns out, was not a pot at all but rather 2 tablespoons of ground meat and about 1/2 of a potato in a bowl. Laughable for the cost. I did not even think i had the right dish based on the descriptions from 3 different waiters. Then, to top it off, the restaurant was not busy and for no apparent reason they put other diners immediately to our sides when the entire restaurant was close to empty. It made private conversations next to impossible. Lastly i gave the restaurant the opportunity to address these issues privately but received no response.
Delicious and authentic French food, and I'd definitely go back. Unfortunately the service was also French, and the waiter was so pompous that we were literally laughing. He was annoyed we didn't order enough to drink during a midday business lunch, and made us feel almost unworthy of being there. Still, the food was delicious.
Unusually [we have dined at Benoit several times, mainly at lunchtime, but several times in the evening] this evening was quite unfortunate. They were shortstaffed in the kitchen, I believe, so everyone was rushing around. Our water glasses were rarely filled up and we had to ask a number of times. Our hits d’oeuvres were absolutely delicious but our second course just never arrived and, again, our wine and water was not refilled for a long time. After one and a half hours I complained to the maître d’ and then our second course magically arrived. Unfortunately, our second course was burned! Again, most unusual for this restaurant. We were told by the waiter as they cleared the table that we would not be charged. Then, our main courses arrived and, again, were very overcooked. My calves liver was like shoe leather!. Again, the waiter came over and agreed that it was terribly cooked and offered to replace it. At this stage, we had been there over two hours and I decided we really wanted to go home. We asked for our check. I have to say that I would not have left a poor review except that, at that moment, my friend who was celebrating his birthday, was brought the most ridiculous and pathetic dessert as a so-called treat! A tiny scoop of ice cream with a small piece of chocolate and a candle! We all looked at it with incredulity.
I left a good tip as usual (the staff can’t be blamed when the kitchen cannot cope) but, as we left, we were asked, yet again, how our meal was and when we told them it had been unusually poor, we were simply told that there had been problems in the kitchen.
All in all, a most disappointing experience in a restaurant that has the name of a great chef. Had we not had some lovely meals there prior to this evening, we would never return.
Always good. Food is excellent, comfortable atmosphere. Really like it for lunch - either business or social. The prix fixe lunch menu is a great value.
Food and service were great. Unfortunately we were next to two women who each were on their cell phones the entire time. They never spoke to each other just on the phone.

Alain Ducasse's casual NY bistro is worthy of his name. Special cocktails were interesting and well done, food (including my wife's quenelles de crochet and my sweetbreads, as well as first courses) excellent renditions of classics. The black truffle shaved over my sweetbreads was visually impressive, but not tasty enough to be worth the supplement Good selection of wines by the glass and carafe. Atmosphere overall sufficiently French for NYC... Overall, a place to return to.
I was disappointed with the NYE menu. It did not reflect the true French gastronomic taste and we felt it had been put together a bit haphazardly. The flavors were too strong to really appreciate the wine pairings. Although the restaurant specified the one special menu we were surprised to observe that other tables could order à la carte . Maybe we would have better enjoyed our meal. The positive side: the waitstaff was truly dedicated and congenial and the DJ and music were very nice.

We loved Benoit. It reminded us of many of the restaurants at which we have dined in France. Everyone we encountered was from France (or a French territory such as Corsica).The food was excellent and the service was superb. The sommelier was very helpful in selecting wine by the glass to pair beautifully with our starters and main courses. It was our 51st Anniversary and we were not disappointed.

This was my second time dinning here and like my first experience the food was extremely bland. Not well seasoned at all. If I return for a 3rd time it would be to sit in the bar area nursing a glass of wine while I wait for my date...then proceed to dine elsewhere.
