Dined outside under the Shambles. Good food and great service added up to a 5 star experience.
Awesome as always! Thanks to our server, Mike!!!
Service was extremely efficient and friendly! I tried a wide variety of dishes from the menu and all the food was excellent. The grilled octopus, one of my favorite dishes that I have tried many variations of in Philadelphia, was the best I have had yet. I will certainly recommend this restaurant to others visiting and living in the city!
Great waitstaff and greater food in a restaurant full of charming ambiance.
We had an amazing dinner at Bistro Romano. We had dinners several times here, alway spot on food and service.
- Caesar Salad
- Grilled Octopus
- Truffle Gnocchi
- Lobster Ravioli
- Sauvignon Blanc
- Watermelon Julep
Service was very fast and courteous, always made sure our glasses were filled and all our food arrived in the first 15 minutes after being seated. Caesar salad was great but grilled octopus didn’t suit our tastes, would like to try other appetizers next time. Gnocchi and Lobster Ravioli were delicious and were our favorite parts of the meal. I would not recommend the watermelon julep, it tasted like pure alcohol and had no watermelon flavor.
This is a wonderful spot in olde city. Delicious food. Romantic ambience. A perfect date spot or place to celebrate an occasion.
Outstanding food, service and ambience. The house Chianti is FANTASTIC!
The food was actually amazing. Exceeded expectations. I’m not a big Italian food guy but props to the chef. Service was good too and atmosphere was great for a date.
I was here about 13 years ago. Thoroughly enjoyed my experience back then. I must say, my experience this time was just as fantastic. From the hosts, our server, and the very delicious food. I can’t say enough good things about Bistro Romano. This is a great place for a romantic date to a family dinner. I’m looking forward to visiting more often.
Food was great, our server Mike was busy and still able to take great care of us and he gave us outstanding service. Would come back here just to have him wait on us again.
Excellent service and food!
It's no surprise to me why Bistro Romano was once named one of the most romantic restaurants in the United States. I've been here twice and both times I was just blown away. Great ambiance and great food.
Ambiance amazing! Service was trash and food was mediocre. Will not return.
Michael James was awesome. Great recommendations, very personable and he enhanced our dining experience. We dined outside for the first time and although it was nice, we’d prob opt to dine inside in the future, mainly bc the ambiance inside is so lovely and being outside (bc it’s so far away) I think slowed the efficiency of the experience. That said, I appreciate the thoughtfulness and attempt to offer a variety of options for for both indoor and outdoor seating. The black pepper macaroni was superb, and you can’t beat the bread. Caesar salad was great, too. My date got the fettuccine Bolognese and while the homemade pasta was simply divine, I wasn’t a fan of the smoky taste of the sauce. All in all, just a preference, not commentary on the quality. Also, my date was pleased with it, though he did prefer my dish ;) Thanks for another great experience. We will def be back!
Food was pretty good but nothing amazing for $30 an entree. The portion sizes were at least pretty big. Tiramisu was very ehh. Cannoli was good. Ambiance on the first floor is nice and then they take you to the dining area in the basement which is very dingy. It’s supposed to be artsy and rustic but it’s just an old basement with nicer flooring. The walls are the foundation of the building and the ceiling has all of the pipes and wood framing exposed. Not a terrible dining experience because it is different and the food and drink aren’t bad, but not a good enough experience to go back again due to the rather high price and a failure to wow.
Fabulous ambience and food! Our waiter was amazing!
If you like food prepared with attention to detail, this is the place to go. Caesar salad and chocolate torte to die for. Gnocchi was out of this world, and I’ve eaten gnocchi in Italy. Service was helpful, attentive and timely. I travel to Philadelphia and never miss the opportunity to dine at this truly outstanding restaurant.
Amazing. Going back ASAP
It was a very delicious meal. Fresh made ricotta appetizer was so creamy and smooth. Had fettuccine bolognese and it was tremendous. Highly recommend.
Only negative is that the wine list markups are steep, potentially 4x versus 3x at most others. It is a very good list, just over-priced.
100% would go back here, Plan on it this weekend while in town.
Grilled octopus and shrimp risotto were fabulous..
The food never fails to disappoint I've been going here for years and they've had a new chef now for a few years and the food is markably improved
NY Strip was definitely not what I expected, especially for the price. Taste and quality was good, but 5 small slices of meat was not what I think of when ordering a NY Strip.
Excellent food, excellent service. Tasted very close to authentic Italian food.
The Bistro Romano staff is so thoughtful! We had an outdoor reservation. They had the foresight to call us and let us know that if we were comfortable with the idea we could be seated indoors!
Besides this the food was incredibly delicious. I highly recommend the calamari appetizer,
Shishido peppers, and Charcoal Oyster Mushroom, Campanelle pasta. The wine selection is great and reasonable.
Atmosphere romantic service was great. FOOD!👍🎊🎉
We dined outside, so can’t comment on ambience, but the food was excellent. We had the fresh corn ravioli and the soft shell crabs with frisée. Both were daily specials and were delicious. We also had burrata with peppers, etc, and lobster ravioli, which were both very good. I would highly recommend based on the food.
Fabulous as always - our favorite Philly Italian restaurant.
Great food, ambience and service! Will deforest return every time we come to PA!
The best in Philadelphia!
Food is always amazing. Suggestions from the server were also very helpful. Server was very tentative and always refilling drinks.
Great experience at Bistro Romano. Very location in the city.
It was my second time visiting here within a month, and both my experiences were great. All menus were very delicious, and their staffs were nice and knowledgeable. I would definitely come again more often.
Service great, food great, friendly and seemed to care. Thank you for a nice evening.
This restaurant and bar is awesome. The ambiance is wonderful and the food is special. This was our 6th time, and even after a year and 1/2 lull, the bartender remembered us.
The customer service was superb . Food was delicious very authentic tasting.
One of my favorite spots in the city. The food and service are always wonderful. Will be back as always!
Excellent food, service and atmosphere. Bar and waitress service was well done and everyone enjoyed their meals. Appetizers was excellent and nice wine selection. There are lots of great options in Philly. I highly recommend Bistro Romano.
Food was excellent and wait staff was very attentive. I want to go back and try more menu items! Ambiance was great.
Food was excellent. The temperature of the restaurant was extremely warm. Service was great. They should not sit people near the kitchen. There is too much disturbance and it is too warm for customers. Our server was excellent. Overall enjoyed the experience but it was a shame that it was so hot during our time there.
