Was excited to go because I had seen the Chicharron on TV several times and it really looked good. I was disappointed in the presentation. Chicharron is about the crunchy texture. Broken Spanish serves it in a citrus broth which takes away the crunch. The broth make it difficult to cut the chicharron as the broth then sloshes off the plate. We will probably go back because the Red Snapper looked wonderful. Broken Spanish, please don't change the snapper to a soup dish before we go back!

The food was very good and the staff were great (especially the hostess). However, Broken Spanish really need to be more upfront about how the food is served. When we sat down, the waiter informed us that the dishes were served "family style" and that he recommended two or more dishes per person to share. So, just be aware that your bill will most likely be double what you would normally expect if you just glanced at the menu online, and the prices per dish are already a little on the high side. One dish per person isn't a lot of food and will leave you hungry. That style of service wasn't clear before we booked the reservation, so we ended up paying a lot more than expected, which left us grumbling a little bit.

Had a great meal with family. Go with a group you don't mind sharing dishes with, they are meant to be shared. I loved that part of it, so I got to try more!

The blue tortillas and the lentils are delicious. So are the spinach tamales, esquites, etc. Even the passion fruit mocktail was delicious. Highly recommend this place!!

The most memorable, creative, delicious, well-wine-paired, interesting meal I've had in LA and anywhere in a long time. > Bestia, > Bavel > Animal, > Mozza , > badmaash ...

Wow! So many excellent dishes to choose from and all were fantastic! The duck meatballs are a must! The chicharon was incredibly flavorful - just a little on the rich side for me. The lamb neck tamale was also pretty great. Only negative for me was the noise level; pretty loud in the area where we were seated. Service was spot on; informative, kind, and engaging.

My boyfriend and I had a lovely date-night at Broken Spanish last week. The restaurant was fairly crowded but we were still able to hear each other (this is especially important to me because I'm hard of hearing and take note of the noise-level wherever we eat out). The service was attentive and the food was delicious - we ordered many plates to share and left very satisfied. We can't wait to go back and try out other dishes from their menu!

Excellent food & cocktails! Super authentic and creative. Subpar service. Our server was not friendly at all and seemed very annoyed that I had several food sensitivities that they had to work around.
The lamb neck tamale is a must-try & the pineapple cinnamon cocktail was divine. Too bad the service wasn't so good or else I would've given this a better rating.

Disappointing experience. The food was not good, not tasty and no quality. Additionally, it was overpriced, too overpriced I’d say for the quality of the food and the type of dishes we had. We got a high table, horribly closed to other tables, so it seemed we were having dinner with a large party instead of two-people dinner. Uncomfortable. The service was ok, not great, but ok. I’d probably choose other places in Downtown LA if you are looking around

Service was friendly and fantastic!! Food was just ok. Seated at the counter (to be fair they do tell you this in advance) but it’s really tucked away from the rest of the restaurant so very little atmosphere. I would however give it another try on the basis of the excellent service alone.

For the overpriced menu I did expect to be impressed. Unfortunately the service was poor and rushed, the noise level was ridiculously loud, the food was meh (undercooked beans?!), and to top it off; our table for 2 was cramped with a few other tables in a busy corner next to the bus boy station.

We went on a Wednesday night, so you would think not too busy, good service, etc...Service was awful. We waited 10 minutes or so before anyone even offered us a drink. The wait for food was even longer. Our main course was served with cold tortillas. The food was very average and actually made my wife and I sick the next day. Definitely not worth the price tag. We will not be coming back.

It was not what I thought it would be. They don’t even have any substitution for diabetic customers, (Diet Coke or Pepsi). Doesn’t offer a lot of varieties of food. Everything comes in a small portion. You still not fulfill by the end of the meal!

The food was incredible. The waitress did not inform us it was family style so a couple of us ordered the same thing. It was a waste. The worst part was the noise level. It wasnt “festive” it was disruptive. This alone makes me never want to return.
