2014 Valedictorian$52.50
An exclusive blend of 53% Merlot, 36% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. Tasting Characteristics: Flavors of bright strawberry, raspberry and cherry fruit with a potpourri of dried orange peel. Notes of sandalwood, cardamom and bay with hints of licorice and exotic earthiness. With 22 months of oak aging, this is a massive wine. Truly "the Head of the Class," at Burrell School, this rich, multi-flavored wine will be speaking out for many memorable years. Best enjoyed now through 2030. Accolades: Double Gold Medal, Appellation America, December 2008. "If you only drink one Bordeaux-style wine from the Santa Cruz Mountains, make it this one."
2017 Pinot Noir "Principal's Choice"$30.00
Vineyard Information: Our Estate Pinot Noir vines enjoy a southwest exposure at 1600 foot elevation We grow four Dijon clones, 05, 115, 667, 777, which add complexity to the final wine. Tasting Characteristics: One look at this wine and you know it's a true beauty: very classy, like burgundy velvet, glistening and gorgeous in the glass. Aromas are perfumey black raspberry, with hints of applewood bacon, coriander and plum tart. On the palate, the flavors are big, silky smooth raspberry and chocolate, with a hint of, cherry jam and red licorice. This is a rich and vibrant Pinot: Definitely more like a cello than a violin. The barrel tannins are evident, the acidity is perfect and the structure is all there: a very balanced wine. Don't be afraid to cellar this Pinot, as it has some maturing ahead of it. Enjoy this fine, age worthy wine with rich foods like duck breast with orange-cherry marmalade or grilled lamb with rosemary and currant demi-glace. Best now thru 2024
2018 Estate Chardonnay "Teacher's Pet"$28.00
Vineyard Information: Our estate vines are situated on a sloping south-west exposure at a 1,560 foot elevation in the cool-climate Santa Cruz Mountains. Located well above the fog line of Monterey Bay, the vines enjoy a long growing season marked by warm days and cool mountain nights. Tasting Characteristics: Here's Dave's latest Estate-grown Chardonnay. A lovely lemony-straw color in the glass opens up to a nose of toast and lemon custard, pears and pineapple. This is a zesty Chardonnay with juicy flavors of grapefruit, almonds, honey tangelo and golden delicious apple. The lively acidity begs to be enjoyed with equally lively fare. We vote for freshly shucked oysters. Best enjoyed now thru 2023
2017 Cabernet Franc-Merlot "High School Sweethearts"$24.50
Vineyard Information: Named for Anne and Dave who were high school sweethearts and just celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary, this wine combines the peppery, bold zestiness of Merlot (Dave) with the smooth, silky elegance of Cabernet Franc (Anne). The wines were separately vinified and then blended in a 50-50 fashion before bottling. Combining the two unique characters results in something is far more fruit-driven than either one of them by themselves. Tasting Characteristics: The nose is filled with cherries, raspberries, blackberries, dark earth and spice, with hints of smokey oak. Because they were both aged in French oak, those sweet tobacco and anise notes are amplified, making this an intensely fruity, spicy wine, with a good bit of tannin and a very supple acidity. This wine would be wonderful with pork tenderloin in a cherry-chipotle chile sauce, or spicy jumbo shrimp with red pepper, garlic and tomatoes. Best enjoyed now through 2025
2018 Merlot "Honor Roll"$24.50
Vineyard Information: 100% Estate Grown, Santa Cruz Mountains. Tasting Characteristics: Admire the deep, dark purple-violet hue in your glass and breathe in wild black cherry aromas. There's a hint of nuttiness and juniper spice from the French barrels and a long finish to the well-structured wine. Big and muscular, it will pair well with spicy sausages or full-flavored lamb dishes. Best now thru 2026
2017 Cabernet Franc "Extra Credit"$24.50
Vineyard Information: We used the Estate Pichon Vineyard for our Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Franc, located on the slopes of Mount Umunhum above Lexington Reservoir. Tasting Characteristics: This is the twelfth Estate Pichon vineyard Cabernet Franc, an elegant and balanced beauty. Aromas of green tea and tobacco accompany a dusty raspberry nose. Flavors of big raspberry and blackberry lead to notes of cedar and sassafras. This is a wine with a smooth, velvety personality and a long, lingering finish. Best enjoyed now thru 2031
2017 Old School Cabernet Sauvignon$24.50
75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc. Barrel Aged in American oak barrels, 30% new. Tasting Characteristics: A big nose of currant and spice is followed by lush mid-palate flavors of red fruits. Mouth-feel is round and soft. Smooth tannins and bright fruit are indicators of a wine ready to enjoy now. A staff favorite, Old School Cabernet is the wine to accompany pasta, grilled steak, spicy chile, or just some fruit and cheese…and don't forget chocolate! Best enjoyed now through 2024. Note About the Label: "The Dancing Schoolhouse" is an original watercolor by Jude Bishoff. It is a tribute to the collective energy of former students of our 129 year-old schoolhouse.
2016 Syrah "Spring Break"$20.02
Vineyard Information: The Estate Pichon Vineyard is located at 1200 to 1800 feet elevation on the slopes of Mount Umunhum above Lexington Reservoir. A vineyard in the late 1800's was maintained by the Delphin Pichon family. Burrell School is proud to again be producing wines from this historic site. Tasting Characteristics: Deep, opaque, almost black color followed by aromas of dark loganberries, cassis and licorice. A rich, textured mouth feel adds extra complexity. Celebrate "Spring Break" year-round with our Syrah. Best now thru 2024
